Milk, if it must go in at all, goes in second. First, and you will add too much, every single time.

The "milk in first" rule is a holdover from days of shoddy teacups, when pouring boiling hot tea into the cup would cause a sudden temperature change and crack it. This is probably not a concern for you, unless you are drinking out of something made before the industrial revolution.

Or, abandon milk altogether. Try it five cups and I promise you won't add milk again.

This is a super serious issue. It is equally as serious as the Russian Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, or English poverty. You know that because Orwell wrote an essay on it:

According to him the tea should go in first.
Damn you! I was going to link that!

Anyway, I'd actually agree with Orwell for the most part: Milk last, no sugar.

His reasons are exactly the same as my own too:
...by putting the tea in first and stirring as one pours, one can exactly regulate the amount of milk whereas one is liable to put in too much milk if one does it the other way round.
Also, to me, putting sugar in tea is akin to vomitting in it. I will literally have to spit it out.

Black, teabag first, stir, take it out, put sugar in, stir again, drink. Milk is for the mainstream! :p

Always milk after everything else. The boiling water hitting the teabag makes it 'brew' (in absence of a better word) faster and makes it stronger.

I pour the milk last, after taken out the teabag. I would never pour the milk in first since I like to drink milk and the though of the teabag put onto the milk make me go ewww.

It depends, if there's a teapot then I put it in first but if i'm making a single cup manually then I put it in last.

Unless I'm making the tea only for myself, the milk goes in first and the tea is left to mash in the tea pot. If I'm making it for myself in a cup the milk goes in last because I don't like looking at the tea bag sitting in the milk until the water is boiled.

Or I drink it black.

I only put milk and sugar in my tea, when I feel like having something sweet after dinner, or a meal. And then I don't even use real sugar. I use a sprinkle of Truvia, or Stevia. AND that all depends on what kind of tea I am having in the first place! Some teas should never be diluted with milk and sugar (or so I believe). ^_^

But the point of this whole post, is that I mix the water and tea-bag together in a separate mug, letting it sit until the desired strength. While that's going on, I mix the milk and sugar together in my main mug. I pour the delicious still hot tea, into the milk and sugar(sweetner, w/e) and enjoy.

EDIT: Oh that reminds me. When I am sick, I only have tea with honey and a lemon wedge! :D

Mmmm Tea.
