Is there a game series you loved a while back, but hate now?

Call of duty for me. I was such a big fan until... Mw2 (pukes a little). I now see the series for what it really is... generic shooters that wank off Saving Private Ryan, and Red Dawn.

Anyway, a series you lost faith with?

I can't really say series, but I used to be big into rts games circa Warcraft 2 and Red Alert. Somewhere along the way I began to dislike them though I couldn't really say why.

I think I'm with Hiphophippo here. When I was younger, I loved RTS games. Now, I can't stand them. They're way too in-depth most of the time and my puny brain can't micromanage like it used to.

I don't know why people find generic shooters bad though...

In contrast I've developed a love of small scale, turn based games like Tactics, X-Com and all that.

I've always loved turn based games. Something that is slow enough so I can keep up with it, and strategic enough that I feel like I really overcame an obstacle. The old Fallouts and certain Final Fantasies really kept my love for that sort of stuff around. Couldn't stand the combat system in FF12 though, bleh.

Kingdom hearts. I liked it when I was younger, then I realized square enix doesn't give a shit about its fans.
Also I realized that I was playing a game with mickey mouse as a major character 0.o

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were practically poster boys for the PS1, but as soon as they jumped to PS2 it all fell apart. I used to like fighting games, particularly Street Fighter 2, Soul Calibur, and Mortal Kombat. But after years and years of getting my butt kicked and not getting better due to my inabiity to memorize insanely complicated combos, I can't take them anymore. Ninja Turtles also deserves mention. I loved the old games, the new ones just feel like typical TV/movie tie-ins.

And wow, no one has mentioned Sonic yet? (Unless I get ninja'd) I don't personally hate the newer 3D games, but I thought that would be the #1 franchise listed in this thread even just a few posts in.

EDIT: Oh jeez, how did I forget to mention Guitar Hero? I use to love that franchise so much, but ever since World Tour came around they've been using crappy music and hardly putting effort into new releases. (See: GH Van Halen)

I certainly wouldn't say I hate them, but I used to love the Final Fantasy series. Now I find myself caring less and less about each title that comes out.

Yea, same here. Actually, Final Fantasy is my entry for this thread. I love the classics like FF6 and FF Tactics (the original, none of that handheld bullshit) and even kind of liked Ten but after that I just can't be bothered with them.

Might be a jrpg thing actually as I hear Lost Oddesy is great but I can't get into it either.

Dance Dance Revolution. Ever since Supernova, it's been going down the shitter, and due to being used to playing ITG 12s and 13s and NM charts in Pump It Up, the older games I used to like no longer entertain me since there's no sense of challenge (unless you count pad errors [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROUSRavPbjk]).

Tag me in with the other FF peeps in here.

Final Fantasy was amazing back in the day, I haven't been able to enjoy one since 8.

9 the main character was a Furrie.
10 didn't feel like a game, it felt like an endless cut-scene that occasionally demanded input from me.
10/2 was just fan service of a game I didn't enjoy to begin with.
11 doesn't count. FF should be about the story, an MMO throws the story out the window and replaces it with endless grind.
12 I didn't buy, by that point I had stopped caring. It could have been the best FF game ever for all I know, I just can't be bothered to find out.

I definitely only no longer play those games because the units around me broke. I dearly miss our pump machine.

I remember the first time I played a Spyro game for the PS2. I was so young, so naive, completely unaware that the game series, my favorite of all time I might add, switched developers and in the process turned to crap. That was the day that my innocence died; I was so excited for a game that was destined to failure... *sobbing*

Seriously, though, that was, and is, my favorite game series of all time up through YOTD. After that, when Insomniac sold it, it just wasn't the same.

Same here, but the original 3 are still great. I bought them over the PSN :).
