Portal. I'm fully aware that this could become a trolling lolling folly post, but I really think this is an important thing to say. Despite the fact that Portal is GREAT, it's not PERFECT. The game is short and while it's arguably more difficult than a lot of games, the only chamber I got stuck on was 18. Testchamber 19 isn't even that hard, it's just long. Admittedly, I had a little trouble with the final boss, but it was no big deal. The game could have been, say, 40 chambers, but they chose not to. Sure, there are the challenge chambers but they all look the same and starting one is about as easy as throwing a grapefruit to the moon and back with half a finger. This isn't so much a problem with Portal, just a problem with the valve save/load system. Anyway, Portal is GREAT. The humor is so in your face it hurts when you sneeze and the gameplay is so simple my mouldy yoghurt could grasp it. It's that easy to begin hard to master thing again.

Another one is Guitar Hero World Tour. It has about 20 good songs on it and the rest of them are Easy, Slow or Ridiculously Fast and horrible to listen to. After all, it's all about the music maaaaaaan! Also, it's really laggy and the crowd may as well be made from lego it's so pixelly.

Also, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. What were they thinking putting it on the PS2?

It does make you wonder how developers and testers missed things that we as gamers find so obvious.
It's a lot harder to fix problems then it is to find them.

Assassin's Creed - I thought it was great, but if there was some stealth and the player wasn't invincible then it would have been even better.

Far Cry 2. It was a very good game, in my opinion, and was definitely much better than average. However, it could have been great if...YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO WALK ACROSS THE ENTIRE F****** CONTINENT OF AFRICA EVERY F****** TIME YOU WERE TOLD TO GO BLOW SOMETHING UP!!!!

Ubisoft..I have 2 words for you....FAST TRAVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, you managed to miss the bus stops, did you?

I'm gonna agree with Mirror's Edge. They shouldn't have set the second half of the game in interior environments that completely ruined the flow of the game, and they should have incorporated a free roam mode around the city.

Edit: They also should have had an interesting storyline. The whole idea of messengers was great, but they failed to capitalise on it.
I'm glad to see some people think what EA should have done on Mirror's Edge's storyline and could have done pretty much the last half of the game OUTSIDE, it was only like 5 minutes for each outside sequence then back inside again. As for Far Cry 2, that was truly a horrible game, I only played it at my friend's house for like 10 minutes, and honestly, i just got bored, nearly all the same faults as Mirror's Edge.

Clive Barkers Jericho. More diverse enviroments, better squad ai, more diverse enemies. Also, better gameplay in general, and a better story. The story seemed uninspired to me.

Mass Effect. Yes story wise it was pure brilliance and lots of the characters were amazing (Wrex ftw), but it could've been much better: richer enviroments (it had a BAD case the Gray Hallway Syndrome and a lot of other repetative, uninspiring enviroments), less repetative combat, and a better fleshed out love story (I mean damn, you just MET Liara, and she immidiatly wants to share the most intimate experience of her species with you...).

Spore. Great idea, horrible product. It was simply too dumbed down, too simple, while it could've been grand.

Assassin's Creed. Innovative game, yes, but too repetative.

Mirror's Edge. Fucked up with the interior levels and some general issues.

In the case of ME and AC: those problems will probably be solved in the sequels, woohoo!

Dead Space, now before I begin I really liked Dead Space, like a lot. It was one of my favourites from 2008 along with Saint's Row 2 and Gears of War 2.... however it was not without issues. First of all if they had worked a little harder on the 'searching for his girlfriend' thing it could have been much more cryptic and haunting then it was and be more open to speculation it could have been genius. Further more if the puzzles in Zero G weren't insultingly deadly and if they scrapped that fucking Guardian thing from development and removed that shitty asteroid level. Then also used realy horror, like psychological terror and isolation with a a haunting tune then it really could have been special.
Plus a larger and more explorable environment would have helped.

i agree with this man a game that looked good and had a good idea and looked fun to play ruined by controls that took hours to get used to.

assassin's creed...poor combat and unimaginative missions.
While I agree on the mission part, Poor combat? Really? For me it was the most stylish sword-combat ever used in such a game. Easy to control and really stylish (Once again). It looks, and feels, like you are kicking arse while using it.

What's your idea of 'great' combat then, if not this?

Dark Cloud 2

I'm getting a little older here, but Dark Cloud was amazing and then it fell off the map when the second one came out.

clive Barkers Jericho

It had everything it needed to be good, it just wasn't pulled off very well.

Agrees heavily with Mirror's Edge. I would actually like to see a sequal when they just fix the flaws with the game, it had so much potential.

Spore, obviously the idea is great but they somehow managed to fuck it all up.
You beat me too it...

Its a shame, it really is. The released version was barely a fraction of the massive, hyper adaptive joy implied by the old E3 video - dumbed down creature creation (along with a stupid and abitary skill-point thing), dumbed down city making, dumbed down civ phase, dumbed down Space phase (along with madenning stupid colonies - seriously, is your starship the only one they have?).
*sigh* yeah. Will Wright is a genius game designer. I just wished that EA would give him the freedom he needs to make his games. They dumbed everything down so it would appeal to a bigger audience so they (EA) could sell it to more people.

Now I'm all for simple games, but what they did to spore was just uncalled for. Though I'm almost half expecting the rest of the game to come in the endless expansion packs like the sims.

Why can't they just make games awesome without marketing effecting everything?

*goes back to independent games*

Not to de-rail this topic, but isn't that the point of being an assassin?

You make a good point! I think I worded that a bit badly. What I meant was the sneaking and countering result in easy one hit kills and take all of the challenge out of the combat.
