The last few missions of GTA3, where you drive like crazy for some CIA informant or something, then have no weapons except a single pistol, and have to rush to the harbour to save your girl. That was by far the coolest set of missions in any game ever made.

Company of Heroes, there are just some moments when I'm playing online where you really begin to care for the little dudes on screen more than their combat value.

E.G this one guy was the only survivor in his squad, he ran across the road to pick up a PanzerShriek dropped by the enemy, then stood in front of this rampaging Tiger (already heavily damaged), he fires the rocket...

...The shot deflects. The Tiger fires and blows up half of the street around him. He reloads and fires again...

...it deflects again. He runs around the Tiger while reloading, followed by the turrent of the 88mm cannon on the Tiger. Just as Tiger's cannon steadies and is about to fire, my rifleman fired first...

...BOOM! He knocks out the Tiger! OMG, award this man a medal of honor! Then the enemy's infantry who retreated earlier came back, and instead of running away, my rifle man went into a nearby building and held off machine guns and snipers and many enemy grenadiers, disrupting the Germans' plans for a few vital seconds. When my main force of Shermans and Rangers returned and rescued my rifleman, it was a proper movie moment... My Hero who stood in front of a Tiger and knocked it out, then kept entire German Army at bay (for like 2 seconds)!

Here is a game not often mentioned: Phantasy Star 4.

Amazing game. I cried when the female lead died. Frankly I think that took some of the shock away from seeing Arith die in Final Fantasy 7. Sure back then it was damn near unheard of for a lead character to die but Phantasy Star 4 did it long before then :)

Any of the Silent Hills freak me out but none as badly as Silent Hill 2. I adore that game even though it scares me to death.

I actually cried at the end of Final Fantasy 10 but I'm a wuss like that.

Halo actually managed to get me to get really into the game though whenever I died I typically would call Master Chief a whore and spew profanities at him >.> then again Castlevania: Lament of Innocence resulted in much the same. I'm shocked my neighbors didn't think I was abusing a boyfriend named 'Leon' considering how many times I screamed at the TV and even threw the controller at the wall on more than one occasion.

I'm another one for COD4 playing as the dying nuke victim was pretty sad and the end aswell, I assume Soap died Either that or he passed out either way it was really well done.
Yah that was a really sad moment, especially if you go to the playground and hear the children laughing, that creeped the hel out of me. Also, it was the American that was in the explosion (I forget his name), Soap is the SAS guy you finish the game with, and yes the American dies, he gets listed as KIA.

It may sound like a bit of an odd choice, but I'm going to put forward Psychonauts. Every character who's mind you explore has some sort of hidden revelation, something you may not find unless you wander off the beaten track, and the sudden insight into their personality that comes from this is powerful. For example, Mia Vodello, a bubbly, fun loving swinging 60's superstar, has a hidden secret. Her children were all killed in a fire and she still hears their screams in her nightmares. She hides this away behind her swinging dance-club of a mind, but it's one of her driving motivations. That first moment when you drop down into this room full of burning figures screaming for help is one of the most memorable in the game.

In Fire Emblem (the first one released in the U.S.) I cried when Eliwood unwittingly struck down Ninian, and she was still expressing her affection for him as she bled-out in his arms. Later, when Athos died, I almost cried, mostly because of the mood of the music. Then, when Ninian is brought back to life by the ancient Dark Magic guy, and she chooses a short life of happiness with Eliwood instead of a much longer life with her brother, I felt a perfect mix happiness and sadness.

In Tales of Symphonia, almost every emotion was touched on. Happiness, sorrow, loathing, regret, rightious fury...each was stirred up at least at one point in the game.

In Mass Effect, I felt one moment of extreme self-loathing (something I've never felt from a game before) during the the DLC mission on the asteroid. I chose to kill the terrorist and sacrifice the hostages. But five minutes later, I almost vomited because the action I had performed in-game so conflicted with my own ethics. I turned off the 360 for ten minutes, came back, turned the 360 back on, and I replayed the entire mission.

FFVI, VII, VIII and IX more than any others. Particularly VII. That shaped me.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were surprisingly emotional games for me, particularly Shadow.

I'm still playing Lost Odyssey at the moment, but so far it has been quite emotional, though nothing that's made me tear up.

Metal Gear Solid was emotional, particularly when you return to Shadow Moses. That really got me, actually.

GTA: San Andreas was a game I was right there with all the way through. I felt like I knew the characters and liked them all deeply. I felt very betrayed when Smoke turned out rat, and it was all the more satisfying to gun the bastard down at the end because of it. GTA4 also had some moments, particularly when Roman is killed (if you choose the deal rather than revenge like I foolishly did).

FFXI provoked an emotional reaction in me too - unprecedented fury.

My first post!
And yes, just for this thread (Initially).

I'd have to say:

The Baldur's Gate Saga on the PC is FULL of moments of anger, sadness, and happiness...*sigh*...I still play those games. But I'll narrow it down and say in Baldur's Gate 2 when you finally face down Irenicus. Curse you Jon!

And Mafia (Again, for the PC) at the end cutscene...now THAT was a tear jerker...

What games really affected you emotionally?

The most recent one was World In Conflict. The game tries very hard to convey the shock of America being invaded. But what did it for me was that the initial invasion takes place in Seattle - my hometown.

There is the humorous side - I can attempt to use my knowledge of local geography to my advantage. But now that I shift to the suburbs where I grew up, I both hope and fear that I will recognize buildings and streets aside from the Kingdome or the Space Needle. I know for a fact that if I have my way, not a single Russian is going to make it out of Washington State alive.
That's funny because I would also list WiC as a game that hit me emotionally. People say the story was horrible, but it did a good job of tying you in with the characters, especially for just a simple war RTS. Towards the end I was getting nervous that Colonel Sawyer was starting to lose it in the mad dash to recapture Seattle. And I also got a bit of the hometown feeling since I live in the suburbs of NYC, and spend a lot of time there. So fighting on the three islands in NY harbor (2 of which I'd been to) and seeing the NY skyline with thw WTC there was pretty powerful.

And funny story with the NY map-while I was playing it the first time I was desperately trying to do as little damage as possible to the buildings and everything. So when it started to sound like we were gonna have to blow up the Statue of Liberty I was devastated-I was saying how I was gonna just drop the game and stop playing if they blew it up. But instead they gave me a chance to dramatically save it, and I liked the game even more. I've actually been playing it right now. Started a few days ago, I think the Mi-24s in Mercenaries 2 made me start thinking about it.

What would have to do it for me is in Chrono Cross, where you're back at your village and everyone thinks you're dead but your the same person. I was affected by Star Wars: The Force Unleashed when Starkiller sacrifices himself to save Bail Organa and all the other senators.

Lost Odyssey was masterfully written and emotional. Also Silent Hill 2, just for the sheer balls to the wallsness.

For me, Bioshock's Little Sisters were kind of...'striking'. When you killed a Big Daddy, the Little Sister actually kneels down beside the corpse of said Big Daddy, crying over the death of 'Mr. Bubbles', which sort of shows them as humans and not sea-slug, mutant children...or at least for me.

I can't believe no one has said this yet..

For me, it's Half Life 2: Episode 2.
Anyone who has completed it should know why. This also ties to Half Life being the only game where I really felt connected to the characters and felt like I was a part of the world, like no other game has ever done.
I Agree completly because i mean c'mon it just happens after all the stuff they've been through then victory everyone was so hopeful then....BOOM FUCK he was my favorite character though i did see it coming....
