Mirrors edge my huge grin gradually transformed into a sad face (the bit where you have to jump between trains accelerated this process tenfold)
Let me guess.. you jumped too early the first 10 times, like I did?
Yup that`s got to be the single hardest jump in the game (the only other remotly tough one i can think of is the elevator shaft the initial jump made no sense

World of Warcraft.

Fun for a while, then reaching end-game is a breath of fresh air, but after a while the repetition really starts to (no pun intended) grind on you.

For me, the hardest part of the game was the shaft leading downwards where you have to turn on the crane, just after that guy in the helicopter comes after you.
It wasn't really in terms of the jumping and running, but more just figuring out the direction I needed to go.
I got lost in that game alot.
It seemed like the first half of the game Runner Vision helped, but towards the end, RV just became usless as nothing would turn red, until the end against the final boss (if you can really call him a boss).

I eventually figured out a special strategy to beat the game i called it the "run at shit and hope you don`t die"plan it is a very complicated and sucessfull plan

Bioshock. It was still good mind you, but nothing as pants shittingly awesome as the game up until Andrew Ryan died.

I'm intrigued... I'll have to try it sometime when I actually buy the game (for hopefully really cheap, because as much as I enjoyed it, it isn't worth $70), instead of renting it and finishing it in like 3 hours.

Assassin's Creed.

Dunno about "progressively" worse, it's more of a huge drop in awesomeness.

You start as an assassin. You end as a one-man army.

I'd have to say Deus Ex: Invisible War as well.

Started off with high hopes, they were dashed in Trier.
Both of these, invisible war particularly.

Haze. I loved being some bad-ass space marine hyped up on steroids. Being a rebel was kind of boring, especially since you were still basically invincible.

Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2
Haven't played Far Cry 2, but Assassin's Creed did get very boring once you realized that all you can do is:
1. Kill some guards
2. Kill some more guards
3. Kill some guy
4. Go to another city
5. Repeat
That's when you start to:
1. Kill homeless beggars
2. Run around crazily to fast-paced music
3. Tackle strangers
4. Ride your horse over the innocent masses of people leaving Damascus
5. Be a general douchebag
That would be great, but killing everyone in existence results in you dying 3 people in.

Kingdom Hearts series and Final Fantasy VIII. Just that the plot began to meandering to a point where I don't care what happens to anyone, it's a peersonal feeling.

God. Of. War.

Think about it. The first level was -awesome-. It got you into the game. It was epic, and revolutionary.

Then you -never- get to do that again as it turns into a conventional hack-and-slash brawler.

It played its aces first, then gave you a bunch of tens. Sure, it's not a -bad- card, but I wanted more aces. -That- was the game I wanted to play, and that your openning promised me.

Of course now, you couldn't do that because of the trite-ness of Quick Time Events.

I have played Assassin's Creed, it was one of the first games I got for the 360. And counter what? I agree with you, that would be fun, but the only people you can kill are guards. Playing a moral assassin is quite annoying.

Nice monocle on your avatar by the way.

..Are we talking about the same game? You can kill anyone, I mean ANYONE in Assassin's Creed. Also, countering.. You know, you wait for a guard to attack, then hit the counter button, and it goes into a nice little auto-kill cinematic? ..Hmm..

And thank you- everything's better with a monocle. ;]

You can't kill townspeople without violating your own assassin's creed. It depletes your synchronization bar. (this probably proves we're talking about the same game... I don't know of any others that use synchronization as health)

And speaking of counters, yes. Personally I like the one where you chop a guards knee, then he falls and you decapitate him.

Ah. Yes. But you can still kill them. ;D Anyway.

Oh, and I need to actually add something to this thread. Red Steel! I thought it started really cool, but then it turned kinda meh, then the controls bugged me, and then I stopped playing..

Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2 probably top my list, they just got too repetitive to keep me interested.

I thought the first 2 chapters of Alone in the Dark were awesome, but then the game just got more stupid and less interesting for me, especially now I'm at that bit where you have to drive around burning the "roots of evil"; I really cannot be bothered.

Also Resident Evil 5. I did really enjoy the game (not as much as 4 though) but in the final chapters where the enemies started carrying guns it just killed it for me. I didn't really like the final boss battle either.

Enchanted Arms: It started out as a great game, the characters were fun(Makoto's bad gay stereotype non-withstanding) the game play solid, as it progressed the elemental weakness system became more broken, got to the Lord of Earth and his 95% damage absorber that I said done.

As a minor one P3FES: Near the end of The Journey it's pacing kinda shit on itself. Then There's the Answer/Episode Aigis that devolves into a bad grind fast with a good story.
