That's a matter of opinion if I ever saw one.

I personally think she sounds like a shoddy robotic meme-spouting G-Man.

To be honest the only place you tend to find fanboys/girls are on the forums of the games they are fans of (in which case, what the hell are you moaning about?) or if you specifically go looking for them.

This includes my example. You only tend to see these fans on the Bioware forums:

Mass Effect 1 fanboys/girls. Seriously, if you so much as like Mass Effect 2 then you better be bulletproof.

Bloody Mass Effect fanboys.

Every third serious thread on this site seems to be filled with masses of them all worshipping Tali and recounting their exploits on the last mission of Mass Effect 2.

God help you if you're waiting to buy the damn game, they'll make sure you know every little detail and spoiler as they fight over which female character is the hottest after Tali...

/endrant.
I have never come across anyone like that and I am currently frequenting the Bioware Mass Effect forums.

In fact, I just searched 'Mass Effect' on this site and there have been only five threads this year and none of them about what you said.

I should also add that if you are yet to buy the game then it's your own damn fault if you get it spoilered for you by reading a thread about it.

Spot on as always when it comes to these discussions.

I should also point out about the whole Ashley Williams thing that it isn't just her but as you touched on lightly, all the romance options in the game.

I swear to god any thread based upon "Who should die?" all the responses are aimed at pissing off the fans of characters who are popular/different from the person responding.

I am also curious to know your name on the Bioware forums. Legion (obviously) is taken so I used my old user name on there.

He said: "To this day no one has told me why they like Glados "

Well, I just told him. Whether you or he agrees or not is irrelevant, that's why most people who like her as a character like her.

They piss me off with all their "Portal is the greatest game ever made and the characters are the best ever"!

To this day no one has told me why they like Glados even though I've asked many times, they usually just say "cause she's funny and THE CAKE IS A LIE"."
Because she's a twisted and imperfect facsimile of childlike innocence as viewed through the green lenses of a jealous psychopath. Any more questions?

OT: I can't stand the Blops fans that have taken my neighborhood by a storm. They're all pitch-[im]perfect gamer sterotypes, right down to the WoW soda and the constant invitations to private matches. It's like a plague, almost.

I don't think you have to be a Valve fanboy to like GlaDos :D That chick/cpu/AI/character is insane, its rare that you find characters so charming yet so sadistic at the same time :D

You know, as shocking as this may be to accept, most 'fanboys/girls' of popular game franchises really aren't as bad as people say they are. For the most part we aren't a bunch of drooling blood crazed internet terrorists who oppose the concept of free will and hence go around viciously flaming anyone with even the slightest implication of an opinion that differs to us.
For the most part, internet 'fanboys' are really just people who like a video game/franchise a whole lot and like to mention it and discuss it with friends. Most of the 'angry fanboy rants' I've seen are basically the end result of other people trolling them. Not them trolling other people.

Frankly I've seen some more aggressive attitude delivered from the people who hate on said fanbase then the fanbase themselves. I mean come on this whole thread is basically just a way to passive aggresively insult entire groups of people and label them under a stereotype to justify it.

I am a Halo fan, and believe it or not, while I claim to know a lot about the Halo lore and love playing the games, it also doesn't define me as a human being. I like to go to the movies, hang out with friends, read books (I'm currently reading the Ben Elton book 'Stark') and watch old movies and listen to old Jazz hits.
But because I'm a fan of Halo people will accuse me of being some kind of undereducated drunken sports jock like Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds. I might not claim to be a genius but I think I am a little higher than that, and literally the only reason people give is that I like Halo.
So? I play all kinds of other games too, Portal, Gears of War, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Otogi: Myth of demons, Saint's Row 2, Fallout 3, Psychonauts, Dead Space, Super Mario Brothers, Red Dead Redemption, Prototype, Batman Arkham Asylum.... just generally a lot of games.
But apparently I'm a 'Halo fanboy' so obviously I only ever play Halo and Madden and yell 'dude' a lot while drunkenly throwing up and belching, right?

I actually already made a post about this, give me a second to dig it up....

"Honestly, I hate the Anti-fans. You know, the people who leap at the opportunity to insult some popular thing and in so doing insult the people who like said popular thing all the while acting all smug and self superior about themselves for doing so.
Even when in their criticism of said franchise/character/movie/book/game/band they accidentally reveal that they know absolutely nothing about what they are talking about and continue to act smug about it anyway.
(I.E Moviebob anytime he mentions Halo)

I mean you see hundreds of these people on youtube comment streams, eagerly demanding that everyone know how much they hate this band or this movie or this character, in other words actively seeking out things that they hate just so that they can let total strangers know how much they hate them. Seriously, this is so much worse than any fanboy could ever hope to be.

Hell most, if not all, of the time a fanboy rage is only brought on thanks to the anti-fans and haters in the first place. Hey, there would be less people angrily defending Halo if there were less people flaming it and by extension insulting the fanbase, people.
This isn't rocket science, a fanboy is a snake that is poisonous and deadly but won't bother you if you don't bother it, an anti-fan is the person poking it with a stick and saying the bands it likes are dumb.

So yeah in conclusion, the kind of fan I hate the most are the people who are fans of hating on other fans.... you heard me."

So if you ask me, at the end of the day a Halo fan who can't spell, uses numbers instead of letters and declares that MASTR CH33F IZ DA BEZT CARACKTA EVAR!!!!1111!!!!!11!!! on a thread or forum dedicated to such discussion is still much more justifiable and defendable then some guy just waltzing into a Halo thread dedicated to discussion among the Halo community and proclaiming:
"I don't play Halo and I'm proud of myself for not wasting my time with a mediocre FPS and being surrounded by all you stupid philistines who love your one dimensional Masterchief instead of the epic Shakespearian legend that is the mute Gordon Freeman!"

Seriously, looking at those two people, I know who I'd rather slap in the face. It's not the guy who can't spell who is yelling about how much he loves a certain game who is an idiot, it's the person who has a personal problem with that.

/Rant

OT: Okay if I had to pick one it would probably have to be certain people in the Mass Effect fanbase. Just to be clear, I am among them and I even post regularly on the Bioware social network and have made quite a few friends there but the fact remains that there are some annoying people in the fanbase, not to mention the people that we count on youtube comment pages (if indeed we even bother to count them at all, that's one population I have no problem condemning as idiots).

I could go on about some silly arguments we've had in the past on the Bioware social network, and how nowadays the bitterness surrounding how people respond to certain aspects of the game(try being a fan of Ashley Williams and getting along in the Bioware forums, I dare you) and about how people there get worked up really heavily over stuff that doesn't matter.

No sir, what I don't like is how so many of the arguments are based on the love interests. There's like seperate nations, each dedicated to a different character. Some are even 'allied' now like it's an actual war.
People flame each other over it and get into huge fights. It's incredible to watch really, we end up turning this into a 'my fictional girlfriend is better than yours' kind of thing.

I dunno, while I still love the games and get along with a reasonable portion of the fanbase, some of the stuff that gets said in and around the games makes me an angry Vrex. Sorry if this description seems a bit dry but I think I blew away most of my steam with that huge rant.

But still yes, above all else some really creepy fan art (and even worse 'hate art' in some cases) certainly does make me a little creeped out by the fanbase that I myself am a part of.

EDIT: as a side note, my rant isn't exclusively about Halo, it's about all franchises really and for the record I ackowledge that there are dicks in our fanbase. No point denying that, I just don't think it's as bad as people would have you believe.

EDIT 2: Also I apologize if I came across as rude or issuing personal attacks to anyone reading this thread or anyone who posted in it, it wasn't my intention. I was speaking broadly without any specific targets in mind, so if anyone was offended in any way I apologize.
Have I mentioned how much I love you, recently? God bless you, you ugly split-lip, bastard.

OT: This gentleman hit the nail on the head for me. It's not the fanboys who annoy me so much as the "anit-fans" who just hate on things for the sake of it.

Though I have to admit, PC elitists (if they count) tend to get under my skin, possibly because I was once (and in some ways, still am) one of them.

Harsh reality but painfully true.

I really like Mass Effect 2 (read; loved) and also liked Tali (read; loved) as a character but after I realized the fucking cult following of Tali, Liara or whatever and Mass Effect as a whole I excluded myself fast as hell.

Now I have almost re-built my bedroom shrine for Team Fortress 2 and Fallout 1. At least they don't have the kind of cult following that are outright creepy.

OT: Every fan that says it was better before, that games today has no depth. If you love your old games then good for you but don't proclaim your right to bash everything new because of it. Also applies to certain PC Gamers[footnote]The first one that caughts me in the act of the mentioned above gets a cookie. How about that? It has a extremely high probability![/footnote]

So, someone has an opinion and they can't prove to you that it is more valid than your own? What exactly are you expecting?

For me, I really get annoyed at anti-fanboys. People who, for whatever reason, have decided to hate something and feel it is their holy mission to make sure no one else likes it either. Oh, and they often feel the need to make sure everyone KNOWS they don't like it.

They'll start threads like "Why do people like minecraft?" Just so they can be controversial. Uggh.

Not to mention their insistence that "Still Alive" is actually a great song. Goes great with Portal, but I think people are mistaken when they say it can stand on its own.

To be fair, the reason that people like Steam so much is because of its features and the fact that it doesn't screw you over (unlike some of the other digital distribution services). I daresay that even the fanboys wouldn't like your hypothetical sodomy box.
They already do defend a hypothetical sodomy box.

[Ubisoft requires internet connection to play AssCreed2]
OH MY GOD HOW HORRIBLE IT'S A SINGLE-PLAYER GAME YOU'RE PUNISHING CUSTOMERS I'M JUST GOING TO PIRATE IT

[Valve has been doing that for over five years]
OH MY GOD VALVE IS SO AWESOME!
You honestly don't see the difference? In exchange for its DRM, Valve offers you the ability to automatically download updates, store saves/settings on their servers, re-download the game wherever/whenever you want. Ubisoft didn't allow any of the above, had no offline mode, and if I remember correctly they had an install limit as well.

The reason Valve gets praised in this situation is the number of bonuses it offers in exchange for DRM. It's one of the few cases where a cracked version (IE one not connected to the Steam network) actually has less features.

I've got one better for you - try being a fan of Jacob! Yes, I am actually a fan of him and yes I am in fact a guy. There is a perfectly good explanation for it too, but no sense in going there unless asked for...back on topic.

Other than agreeing with the quoted poster's opinion a bit more than I thought I would, I've recently come to despise the Star Wars fandom again as a consequence of every now and then popping by the SWTOR forums. As much as Bioware might want to make a good community for that MMO in advance...I have a feeling that this one really will take the cake.

It's not just having to contend with three massive and different communities and somehow needing to merge them into one (MMO players, Bioware fans and Star Wars fans). It's also the sheer zealotry behind Star Wars that is probably going to make sure it never manages to become at least a halfway accepting community in the long run. And as much as Revan fanboys and fangirls might be annoying, the most vile of them all are the intellectual blowhards who try to justify their positions of fiction as if this was religion they were talking about as opposed to...you know...a game meant for fun and based on a fictional universe.

If and when I get SWTOR, I am already pretty damn certain that I'll make sure to stand apart from its general community and ban myself from their forums if I possibly can. Because there's nothing I detest more than arguing over pointless BS these days and the RP community coupled with the Star Wars community? Hooboy...even though I am an avid RPer myself, I can guarantee you that some of the most pointless arguments will be birthed from the SWTOR RP community waaaay in advance.

The MMO might actually turn out to be good...but the community along with its fans? I find it hard to believe Bioware will *ever* be able to shape it into anything resembling decency. And this is me speaking as someone that actually doesn't have that much of a problem with the Mass Effect or DA:O fanbases (though I will admit that perhaps they are just a liiitle too overeager...but then again so is every fanboy. It's hardly something special).

Halo. Halo, Halo, Halo, Halo, Halo... I can't stand them! But I guess It's not just Halo, anything thats Xbox exclusive really...

One of the reasons I don't have an Xbox. I don't want to become one of them! D:
