You know you love a franchise when your trying to tell the complicated lore of a role-playing game to someone who's only relationship to gaming are Tetris and it's apparent they don't listen.

Fallout 3 and NV were great too, but Fallout 2 was the creme de la creme.
If only it didn't have the random spiritual bullshit.
That had no damn place in the game.

Ah, thanks. Finally someone else noticed and aggrevated on the spiritual part. Partly ruined the game for me. Add the abscense of BoS, bugs everywhere, the overall seriousness and the lost music and we have the answer why Fallout 2 was ruined for me.

Half Life series. There's no way around it, it's the reason fps games truly have a story and how good Valve have been is remarkable, both to the game and fans of the studio in general. I still stand by my claim that the series after HL2 has proven itself to be, to put it mildly, fucking awesome. I mean it's true that EP 2 has been too short and the wait for EP3 is killing me slowly but surely inside but hey EP2 had one thing I wasn't expecting to be just that good: the soundtrack. I'll prove my point.

Gears of War. FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC. Surprisingly deep (although not too deep) and with the BEST third-person gameplay out there. Ever. No arguments are allowed.

Although its most recent release has made me ashamed to admit it, I've loved the Fable series from the beginning. Going back to the ps2 there was the Sly Racoon series (easily some of the greatest platform games in creation), the Ratchet and Clank series, and the Jak and Daxter series (I still play em now and again).

If I went back even further, the ORIGINAL (and I must stress ORIGINAL) three Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot. It is truly sad what has become of them.

Oh well there's plenty, the MGS series, Gta games, Uncharted, Red Dead games, Diablo, Max Payne and Bioshock, not Bioshock 2 though, you can say whatever you want about that game but the story not only has nothing to do with Bioshock, it buttrapes it so hard it makes even the biggest prison interns jealous! Even the multiplayer story is more true to the original story =(

But yeah these franchises are the best ones IMO, all other games fade in comparison And Bioshock has THE best story ever featured in a game, ever.

Saints Row 2. The graphics and story were poor, yes, but I forgave that for the sheer joy of a mini-game that encouraged me to turn by character into a ragdoll, that would fly hundreds of feet through the air
