A game, or should I say games that deserve praise that I rarely hear about are Warcraft 1 and 2. NOT WARCRAFT 3(Although a great game) OR WOW(still, not bad), But warcraft 1 and 2. Totally deserve a little more praise and should be thought of first whenever the name Warcraft comes up, because without them, WoW wouldn't exist.

EDIT EDIT: the OP fails at getting his point across.

None. If a game is good enough to get my praise, it will continue getting my praise from then on.
I like how you tried to cover your reading fail by trying to blame it on the OP =)
Good writers get there point across simply.
To be fair, he did write the key words in all caps. I thought it was pretty clear at least.

I think this is more of a case of people assuming the topic is about something it's not and posting without reading the actual post.

StarCraft II- really just jealous b/c my crappy computer can't play it. lol
If that's the only game your computer won't let you play, be thankful. Mine is unable to play any game at all besides Homeworld, and it can only play that because it's 11 years old. It's fucking annoying, Minecraft won't run, Tribes 2 won't run, etc.
I can just barely play WoW. League of Legends looks like crap and MineCraft plays at 1fps. Starcraft 1, however, runs just fine.
1fps... well, at least it starts. Hehe.

Starcraft's about as old as Homeworld so that doesn't surprise me.

FAllout 3. I played for an hour and I didn't enjoy a bit of it. Now I get to live it all over again with the release of New Vegas.

O...k... so what part did you not get?

I know there are plenty of threads on the topic of some games being too hyped, overrated or just not being that good but what I'm wondering are there any games that you DO think are worthy of all the hype, praise and/or sales BUT are mentioned so often that even though you'd admit they were great games that the constant praise over the years is starting to become an annoyance?
I'm not sure how that could be interrupted as popular games you hate since I mentioned you liking the game multiple times in the original post.

However at this stage in the thread, trying to sway the topic back is like peeing on a giant oil fire.

Valve's entire library of games. Yea, TF2 is alright. Half-Life 2 wasn't bad. Portal is interesting, though that fades pretty quickly... and yet... Valve gets more praise than an automatic blowjob machine. Seriously, some of you people are attached to Valve's nutsack so tightly we'd have to castrate the poor guys to remove you. Get a grip. Valve is a good developer, and Steam is awesome, but they are far FAR from the best developer out there.

This is the official everyone troll everyone thread.

So i guess I can say all Final Fantasies made after the PSX are trash. All Square enix games are uninspired, lack pacing, have bad character design, and lack any narative. For example, I bought the PSP FF tactics Lion wars or w/e. I spent about 10 minutes reading a wall of text, and during the first fight I controlled 1 out of 12 characters which made for a mind numbingly bad time. I then turned on FF2j for some classic goodness.

Minecraft.

I really, really wanna play it, and I'm just as intrigued about it as everyone else, but I really don't need to hear it anymore

Not for a Zelda, Metroid, or Team ICO game. Not even for a Grasshopper Manufacture or Atlus release. Not for a Valve or a Blizzard game that's been 10+ years in the making. I don't wanna hear about any one game THIS much. I don't need to see three Minecraft stories in one day, especially when at least two of them are gonna be about stupid shit you can build with a lot of patience and about three million hours of time you should have spent writing that college thesis. I frankly no longer care about people building Rapture in it. I get it, you can do that in the game. Big deal. DON'T REPORT IT.

But that probably just means that I gotta quit reading blog-format news-sources. I generally have a problem with seeing the author's opinions on any one article, and the fact that these aren't "BIG" news sources means they can show slant, and I absolutely HATE that. I always hate the last paragraphs in Escapist articles that go like "Well, I think blah blah blah."

I don't care what you think, author.

Anything that beings with "Final" and ends with a Roman numeral of some kind. (Final Fantasy, in case you had figured it out).

Halo makes the list too. Played some. Not fun. Stop saying it's solid gold gaming, please.

Im just comparing the amount of enjoyment I got out of them each. Personally playing Halo single player feels like im kinda wasting my time, bland and dull. I only do it for "content sightseeing". Playing it multiplayer is like that time I nearly lost my big toe by getting it caught in a bike chain when I was a kid... unenjoyable.
Oh ok, fair play I guess.

Seriously, Escapist readers should be better than this.
Well, I DO feel like an idiot now.
Related to the actual OP, I guess Mass Effect most of all. I think it's a great game, just not my cup of tea. Hated the talking, no matter how well acted it was.

<spoiler=Off-topic RANT>I'm just sick of it being the pinnacle of sci-fi, shooting, and RPGs. The shooting elements? OK, I guess (Note: this is all my own opinion), The sci-fi? None of it was my cup of tea. The RPG Elements? Nice, but the talking should've had less attention to it. If I want to see good acting and talking scenes, I would've watched a movie. I'm fine with talking, if it interests me, like Fallout 3's did, but Mass Effect's seemed less like it fit into the game and more like Bioware just wanted to show off how good their characters are.
RANT OVER.[/spoiler]

I'm NOT tired of games getting praised, people put SO much work into them, and even if I don't personally enjoy them, I can most times see how someone else would. What I am tired of, is people whining about games and especially people complaining about games getting praise.

Bioshock. Everybody seems to loveeee this game, When it is essentially just a standard FPS with pretty graphics.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins. Played both. I just don't see it. Whatever it is that makes everybody call these games teh BEST EVER, i can't see it at all. Great story for both and Good graphics. Gameplay? Both generic and not very fun to boot.

FF7. Welll.....i just don't like hearing its amazing from everybody because i havent had a chance to play it myself >=p Lol Ok that one is a little unjusitfied

Immma ready for the hate anyways.

Call of Duty- has the loudest and (sometimes) stupidest fans

God of War- it did not invent the f**king genre but people compare any game that plays similarily to it (Castlevania LOS, Dantes Inferno)

Guitar Hero, Rock Band- overhyped expensive wastes of space and the fact there are dozens of versions make each new release needless

Sports genre- Only one of these things need to be released every few years (theres a reason they litter the bargain bins for $1)

I'm really glad to see that I'm not alone with Portal. It's alright, but I really don't see what the hype is about.

Rockband 3. Im all about the party game, and a few buds on xpert getting crazy highscores, the dlc the CC, I've been a fan of music games since the GH1. But really rb3 is pretty bad. Like bad. The music is tedious, Unchallenging, and We got to the point where we were so bored we were actually laughing at some of the more silly lyrics in tracks. I think we played the first 3 or four challenge tour packages or whatever they're called now @ 12 tracks a piece. So that's about half the gamesset list. I counted maybe 5 guitar solos at the most all really basic. WIth a full band at my firends house i dont think anoyone hit under a 95 first time playing all on x. My point is that it's simple and so far the music is bad. Hell i could say its fair that their are maybe 6 of so actual Rock songs in rockband 3 so far 30-40 songs in.

It seems to me like the tracklist, and difficulty of the game were built around the new peripherals. Where it should be the other way around. I don't understand how the writeups and reviews of rb3 nobody is mentioning the boring ass setlist?!?
