I still don't understand the hatred of QTEs, though. In cutscenes, at least, I actually feel like I'm contributing to the awesome set of actions in front of me that I cant pull off in game, which is probably the reason I loved Ninja Blade.
It's easy to understand, his name is Yahtzee and people don't pay attention to what he actually says about QTE's, they just latch onto the opinion and shoot their mouths off about it.

I don't hate QTE's myself, however I feel they need to, unsurprisingly, follow some rules.
1. Quick Time Actions should correspond with Non Quick Time Actions (for example, X is always jump, B is always punch etc.)
2. You should be able to see them coming. No "Press X not to die" and so forth.
3. They should really match the situation, like being a sort of "reward" for beating a boss ala The Force Unleashed or for conveying a scene that screams for interactivity yet cannot be handled in normal gameplay.

Dissapearing bodies. If you can render 50 guys shooting at me, why can't you render 50 dead guys. This does not include multiplayer where you could theoretically end up with and infinite number, or games like L4D which can spawn an infinite number of enemies, but at least make it extremely hard to notice. Rainbow 6 Vegas is particularly guilty of this since they seem to mysteriously vanish the second they leave your line of sight.

The self regenerating health bar seems to be the new bullet time ever since Call of Duty 4 did it. Since then shooter have been to shoot, duck and watch your screen go red like it's trying to give you a seizure.

Unskippable cutscenes. If I'm replaying a game, I don't want to sit through the 15 minute long opening cutscene, then the 5 minute cutscenes that shortly follow after every 30 seconds of gameplay. I know the story, I know where I am and I know what I'm doing. You don't have to explain it to me again. I'm looking at you Bioware. Even worse if there's a save point just before a hard boss, which has a long cutscene intro.

Also, save points. Why can I not save where I want? If I'm half way between 1 save point and the next, and I have no time to get to either of them, why should I have to start back from my previous save? The Elder Scrolls series has it, Zelda has it sort of (back to the start of the dungeon/village/house etc. but still wherever you want), hell even Phoenix Wright has it. So why can't more games? I understand if it's a level based game like Mario, but what about FPS games and RPGs? If I want to save just before I fight Ridley or whatever evil boss creature is in the game then I should be able to.

And I like QTEs, so long as they're a core part of the game, i.e Shenmue.

Unlockable characters. When I unlock the hidden characters in Smash Bros Brawl, I just wonder why I couldn't ahve been given them to start with.
well thats because it feels as if you've earned something and why should you be given the most powerful character right at the start, the games would be made pointless it also adds to the effect of the story.

OT: i wouldnt change anything about any games no matter how much i hate something because it's there for a reason and theres gotta be one person out there somewhere who likes it.

I hate it when games make something tedious for no good reason at all. For instance, in Risen you can replenish a part of your health by drinking fresh water from a barrel. The animation takes maybe 5 seconds. That's fine, but it gets annoying really fast when I want to restore all of my health.
Similarly, in Dragon Age you regenerate health and mana/stamina when not in combat. It's just really slow.
Both things are obviously not realistic, but I don't really mind that. What I mind is that these mechanics promote doing nothing for a fairly extended period of time. If you are going to put in mechanics like these, just eliminate the delay... What's the point?

I'm also not a big fan of how QTEs and escort missions are usually implemented, although I think there is nothing wrong with either in principle.

Another thing that needs to stop existing is rewards (in multiplayer games) that make it easier for the winner to win. I understand the desire to reward good play, but it just completely screws up the balance. If anything, it's better to give a boost to the losing team/player so things are more even again. (Here I'm thinking of CoD4 which gives air strikes and radars to players/teams that have already demonstrated they are superior without these perks.)

Defend X from enemies coming from opposite/all sides.

I don't mind defending something if it's backs against the wall sort of thing but when I have to basically stand on whatever I'm supposed to be defending to defend it it becomes overly complicated and boring
Funny you should mention that, I JUST finished doing the defending part in Half-life 2 in Nova Propeckt. You only get 3 turrets for 4 door ways and they throw grenades and sometimes just rambo in and knock over targets, it got boring. I ended up standing in the lockers that house the turrets with a shotgun and blasting anything that ran into my view, it worked. =\
That was one of the situations I had in mind actually.. I mean if it's backs against the wall and they're all coming at you from one direction they can send the whole fucking Chinese army for all I care just so long as I'm not getting surrounded

I'm pretty sure this is a controversy issue. Live bodies trying to kill you really aren't that big a deal. Piles upon piles of dead bodies tend to make grandma and big brother sad.

Back when I played RPGs more than FPSs, the whole "track down murderous asshole, kill murderous asshole to save the... oh wait, this guy is the REAL final boss with 7 different health bars" thing bugged the hell out of me.

Nowadays I really don't like Death Streaks in MW2 (I think someone mentioned this one already). Rewarding idiots for dying is stupid. Driving sections in action games can go burn somewhere too.

Multiplayer achievements/trophies, the bane of online gaming.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I agree! I look onto F.E.A.R. 2 and Quake 4 with disdain that I'll never unlock those achievements because... They're practically dead severs.
Time Shift for me, now for games like TF2 it's fine cause it's online all the time, but FPSs that add online just to compete instead of a epic and awesome single player is making me mad.

So very, very, very true. Good way for the business to make money, tho...
Beside that I think the Halo 3 Achieves online were super amusing. It's better if the online material were for something menial like achievement points and not a game centered unlock, though. I mean, really, nobody cares about achievement points unlesss they are willing to do something stupid for a hundred hours anyway, right? I vote in-game achievements offline for bonuses you can utilize offline.

Would each body take up space on the memory dead or alive, so if you have 50 dead bodies and 50 still shooting at you the memory would take a hit from it. You can't have something on screen not take up space like that, atleast to how I'm thinking it would be used...idk from a OOP stand point every body is a object and that takes up space. But I guess you can find a way to not have that happen I just doubt it.

I've been doing some thinking and I have to say...

Online Multiplayer for Console Games.

As far as I'm concerned this is the worst thing that ever happened to gaming.

pretty much whats already been said: Regenerating Health, Screwed up difficulty curves (i.e. Medium=too easy, Next up=Impossible), and red screen at injury needs to die, massively.

Personally i really like exploding barrels, not knife or punch ones, but bullet ones, its not *strictly* correct but still, its Hollywood-style suspension of disbelief.

I'd like to see not complete disappearance, but decrease in "magically regenerating health" systems. Or at least some attempts at justification.
Health doesn't magically regenerate, you just put on a bandaid and off you go. =D

I hate QTE's where you instantly die. I don't like it if you lose some health or something else, but it's tolerable.

Escort missions where the person you have to protect is some suicidal moron.

Yeah, they need to go.
Don't play borderlands. They have exploding, acid, lightning, and fire barrels.

I already know this.
I bought it last month. I don't mind them there though as they do different things depending on the barrel colour. It's just in many other FPSes where they seem to be everywhere.
