Unskippable and un-pausable cutscenes. WTF devs? How hard can it be. Lost Odyssey did it perfectly. If I need to pee or my dog explodes during a cutscene, I can pause it. If I've seen it before I can skip it.

It pisses me off so much in the Metal Gear Solid series when I'm halfway through one of those 2 hour cutscenes explaining vital plot points and mum/dad calls me because dinner is ready or someone calls me for some other reason and I either lose any understanding of the plot or watch the cutscene and make people hate me.

Save points too. Why can't I save anywhere I want like in Oblivion or MGS. Sometimes there are hours between save points in RPGs like Final Fantasy ix or something and a lot of plot to get through between them. Example: Final Fantasy ix. When you get to Terra there's one save point then about 30 minutes of talking and walking around then a difficult battle which is easily lost unless you prepared for it, though it comes out of nowhere. So you die and go back to your last save, right before the 30 mins of talking. I hated that so much.

Grinding, specifically the fact most JRPGs can't seem to live without them. I acknowledge that there are some weird people out there who wil sit around and grind for hours on end so they can beat a certain bonus boss (eg. Dark Aeon) or get an achievement. But shit like that should only ever be for the truly die hard and so optional. Forcing grinding as part of the normal game is just annoying (I'm looking at you Lost Odyssey and your fucking electrical worm fuckers) and puts me off like nothing else.

I play JRPGs for the story and characters (cliched though they may be, I enjoy them), not for the combat (unless it's great fun, like The Last Remnant). I much prefer how Eternal Sonata did things by erring on the side of easy and having little to no need for grinding. Instead of Lost Odyssey as I previously mentioned, which seems to require it to progress from pretty much the start of the game. That doesn't give me much hope for what comes after whatever barrier I'm stuck at.

I watched a friend play some FFXIII and i was just flabbergasted at how much he had to grind and even how long it took to kill a certain kind of beast, he took on this giant turtle thing and i swear he sat there pressing the same attack button for 45 minutes before it then killed him with it's 'fuck your shit' attack, He then went on to do this...twice, before he finall beat it, it was by far one of the most boring things i've witnessed. On another note, i've played LotR: The Third Age and the grinding in that was so minimal and well done that it was barely noticable.

OP: Lack of a Pause feature for cut scenes, it was quite refreshing when i got them in RDR.

Unrealistic damage/injuries - If I shoot you in the leg with a shotgun, YOU BETTER STOP RUNNING!!

Terrible Physics - I understand that realistic physics would be tricky, and/or impossible, but at least make an effort.

Dying in The Void/Grey Hell - I know that if I get stuck in there it's gonna bug me, but I shouldn't be able to get there anyway! If you implement dying in there, you clearly know it's possible. FIX IT!

I don't like how some final bosses are easier than previous ones. It's really annoying when that happens. I expect a friggin challenge.

Seriously, what the hell. Just finished my first run through of RE4 (yea I'm not really with the times because I'm a broke college student who can't afford anything other than her PS2 and used games) annnnnd I was pretty god damn pissed that in a game as good as that gave me a less than adequate final boss fight. I mean I died a few times sure, but it didn't really stump me. I won way faster than I did beating other previous bosses and I guess that just made it feel like less of a reward. Sure, I beat the game, but it wasn't very hard so I guess I wasn't all that proud of myself at the end of it all. :|

It's just plain annoying and not all of the JRPG battle systems are fun enough to keep doing that all the time. I end up zoning out and then dying like an idiot which just wastes even more of my time. =A= I guess it could be fun intoxicated or something... but it get's even more annoyign when the monsters are absolutely shit and give you hardly any experience for all the effort so you have to kill like 150915701 of them to even get a level. :|

Now I'm just complaining. xD ;

More and more games no longer support standard gamer controllers.
Only expensive XBox360 controllers. Why does the developers willingly force us to buy Microsoft products to play their games when they dont have to?

And that there is so few good co-operative games on pc. Everybody loved CoD:MW2's Spec-Ops, and CoD:Blops gave us hope for another one but then didn't deliver. I'm just have to wait for Portal 2.

And fewer and fewer games support LAN or non-commercial dedicated servers.

Exactly, developers couldn't do that back then, games had to be 100% or at least 90% perfect AT RELEASE. No excuses, are it was rare to come across buggy games, now we have boys ahoy, I don't even think some developers bother to test thier games before release anymore, why bother, just make us the idiot lab rats and patch later. lol

Re-spawning enemies... What a pain in the arse. Specially in shooter, it forces you to have to run and gun rather than trying to take a more practical action. I mean, in games like CoD they'll just keep coming at you, so what's the point in trying to snipe them off or trying to find a decent position where you can kill them then move out?... They just keep coming, meaning I have to run straight down and try to take them out as I'm running.

Very unnerving. Now don't get me wrong, re-spawning enemies can work if the situation calls for it or the game it self needs it. Often works well in RPG's and such... However in a lot of games... It doesn't and it forces you to make stupid, life threatening decisions which could have been avoided.

Especially this, what happened to good old co-op games? I mean there are 4 handsets to use...
Look at the Resistance games, Fall of man had co-op...then they Got Rid of it for the second one!

Your in a boss fight, you whittle him down to a sliver of his health, then BAM!, you die. You restart in one of two ways: Somewhere in the level before the boss, or right before the fight starts. Either way, you have to do everything over again until you win.

This is not fun. At all. It is, and never was fun. Please stop doing this. I suggest the Infamous route, where there's checkpoints throughout the fight. So when you restart, his health is close to where it was beforehand(Checkpoints would activate when 1/3 of his health is lowered, and continue from there). Much like Infamous.


And another thing, don't force me to watch the cutscene with him right beforehand every single time. Its even worse if its unskippable, which it usually is. For this, go the Sly Cooper route, where you don't show the same freaking scene over and over again, but take us right into the battle.

I couldn't agree with you more. I just played through Splatterhouse and it is the absolute worst offender ever when it comes to cheap boss fights (in some instances) and shitty checkpoints.
