Although once the new ones are out the un-altered versions are harder to find.
I totally agree with you though. People go crazy when even anything is changed or remade, as if that cancels out the making and release of the original.
While it's true it doesn't negate the fact that the originals were made and released, as you yourself already said, original unaltered versions are becoming increasingly hard to find. The only ones available now being 4:3 rips of the Laserdisc versions. We'll basically never see the original versions which many of us grew up with remasterd in HD now without the stupid revisions.

And the revisions really are stupid. At best they add nothing to the movies. At worst they actually sabotage characters and scenes or act as a slap in the face to some of the people who originally worked on the movies.

Unless he's sending his task force out, to re-claim all non-altered copies of the movie, and swap them for the new ones, i don't see your reason for rageing, at all.
This is basicly what i hear in the OP

"ZOMGWTF theres coming an alternate cut, of a movie i like, OH THE HORROR! while no-one is forcing it on me, and i probably already own a copy of the version i like, and will never have to endure the minor changes myself, I CAN'T STAND LIVING IN A WORLD, WHERE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE CHANCE, TO ENJOY AN SLIGHTLY ALTERED VERSION OF SOMETHING I LIKE! RAAAAAAAAAAGE!"

Protip: If the new cuts doesn't becomes accepted as succesfull, even you cannot possibly care a lot.
If they DO become succesfull, rant on about how you liked star wars before Lucas changed them, that way you just sound like a hipster, which is slightly less annoying than that level of nerd rage*

*Disclaimer: By nerd rage, i mean the kind of shit this thread is about, where irrational lecvels of rage is brought up over something that'll never matter to the rager. It is the rage part beeing looked down upon, not the nerd part.
When nerd rage over something like EA origin forcing spyware upon you, i find it justified, when they rage about Gamestopå pulling stuff from the games they sell, i approve of the rage.
When people whine about somethign so small, that will never truly hurt the thing they like, since the original still exists, i face-palm, mainly at my own stupidity, for having considered nerds smarter than the average person.

Bottm line is DOES IT FUCKING MATTER? anyone who cares enough to rage about it has their own copy of the original movie, and Lucas isn't gonna take that away from you.

For those who say "just watch the originals" they're only on VHS. It's getting hard to buy VHS players, soon there'll be none and the unfucked versions will cease to be
There's [a href="http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Two-Disc-Widescreen-Theatrical/dp/B000FQJAIW"]This[/a]. Includes the original theatrical release. If you want to see it as it appeared in theaters in 1977, you can. Just bear in mind that it is only available in 4:3 aspect, meaning it will look odd on a widescreen tv.
My VHS is in widescreen (and I've got the 4:3 VHS version, I feel shame for facilitating Gross Lunatic's problems) but as I've only got a 4:3 telly I'm good :)

You don't think a man wielding his power and influence over the idiotic, the young and the obsessive compulsive of the world and taking their money off them is a bad thing?

www.redlettermedia.com sums up pretty well the problems with the prequels and the problems that Gross Lunatic's employees have "just glad to be working"

What alterations? These are clearly just some hoax, made by some troll.
Right? It's not like they'd ever be stupid enough to put these in an official release.
Right?!

It's so funny, this link always gets posted at least ten times in any Star Wars thread.

It's always easier to agree with people bashing something than actually coming up with ideas yourself.

How is he taking their money off of them? He's offering them a product, which they have all the right in the world to just say "no thx, do not want" to.
The people rageing already knows that it's minor changes, that they won't like.

And don't compare this to the prequels, While they didn't take anythign away from people who liked the original trilogy, i can udnerstand people rageing against it to some extend, because they were hoping for awesomeness and felt disapointed. People claiming that the prequels reuined the original, I don't understand though, as nothing in the originals changed, and they can simply just dismiss the prequels if they don't like them.

Take this example.
Apple puts out a new iPhone. It coems in the color white, nothing else. People love it.
Then later, they make a new version of the same phone, but it's now in black.
It does in no way change the white phone people have, they just offer a slightly different version of it to people.
Would you be willing to rage, because of it? Would you consider them to be "wielding their power and influence over the idiotic, the young and the obsessive compulsive of the world and taking their money off them"?

A lot of people are raging more over the changes Lucas is doing to the original trilogy. It ends up spilling over into prequel discussion because if it weren't for the prequels, he probably would have left the original trilogy alone.

Why you may ask? Why does a man slowly pummel our beloved franchise into the ground? Because FUCK YOU, thats why. Also, the second scene was hilarious.

Those two scenes made me shudder. I don't get why George Lucas won't leave the movies alone. He's already killed Episodes 1, 2, and 3, and now he's going back to kill the originals?

Still, how is releasing altered versions of the original hurting the original-original trilogy?
If you like a song a lot, and finds out someone has made a cover-version, or techno remix of it, would it be enough to rage? it's not like it's removing the original form existence, or makeing it illegal or anything. You can still enjoy the song you liked, in the version you liked like you always have.

Not "hurting" But I have a big ole TV and bluray player and I cannot get a good quality copy of the movies without it being updated. Which is what I want. So yeah. There it is.

Because the only version of original trilogy that exists (legally) is laser-disc transferred onto DVD's. That's good enough for me honestly, but I can see how some people get pissed when the "new and improved" altered original trilogy gets its film and sound cleaned up then put onto blu ray and the original movies don't.
