It's certainly nice to have something in common. But I wouldn't say it makes girls any hotter.

Except when they're old-school Nintendo fans >,>

well i guess it gives a common ground and makes the gaming girl more approachble for us shy reclusive nerds because there is something there that we both understand

Guys do seem to be impressed with it (then again, they are the weaker sex, doesn't take much to impress them :p), I guess. D: They get catty though when I know more about something or am better at a particular game.

Hi, I'm a gamer, and I'm a girl. :)

A hang out with guys who play video games a lot. They keep telling me that being a girl who plays and GETS video games like they do makes me "hotter". I personally have no idea how playing video games makes me more attractive.

So I'm asking, do you believe this to be true? Why or why not? And if you're a girl gamer, has this ever been said to you? What are your feelings on it?
It's the "she's one of us" bonus. For us male gamers it's like this: If we meet a girl that we like, we WILL think forward to how a relationship with her would look like. Most of us male gamers like to simulate, you know. And if the girl we meet is a gamer, then most of us go:"Yeah, she's a gamer, too! STRIKE!" Because we think building up a relationship to someone who shares our favorite hobby will be easier.

But most of us just disregard, that even if a girl is gamer, she will almost never be the sort of hardcore-gamer who plays games ALL THE FUCKING TIME. And yes, we all want to excuse our lack of life. Almost no one will confess on teh intarwebz that he has no life. Like me. I have friends(not much, but enough), I often do shit with my friends. Mostly my weekend is filled with game-less time. I even asked a girl out and she said "yes", and we're going out next week. But still, I have this fucked up feeling of having no goddamn life.

And that's how most gamers feel, I would say.

@all Trolls: NO, the majority of gamers aren't visiting the escapist website, so trolls, just STFU before you start flaming about how I'm wrong and how the average gamer is a "charismatic eccentric which is unconditionally loved by everyone even while he's setting their dog on fire" to quote Yahtzee here.

The concept of women playing games is mildly attractive until they beat you.
At that point you delete them.

I like a girl that's completely tolerant to the fact that sometimes I like to just shut down my brain and play video games on occasion, but I have to be honest: my girlfriend plays WoW, and that's a huge turnoff for me.

Do you know how many times she's stood me up because she found a raid group? It fucking hurts.
She stood you up because of RAID!? Man intervine, before it's too late.
I don't raid over any social activity. Including bloody stupid ones like off to take care of grandmother for an hour or go fetch milk from down road...Im kinda glad my guild have that whole 'If you have anything to do in the next X hours, don't sign up for raid' rule in place because it seriously avoids alot of leavers fustration for those that are there for the full time and whineing on the part of those who need to leave.

But yeah I'd talk to your GF about that, thats...shitty. And I hate being misreprisented as a female WoW player like that...

As for the topic at hand. I dunno I don't make a point to tell guys that I do game, that comes later, so... They can make the superficial choice first and then if they get deep enough they get that little surprise whether its a turn on or turn off.

As with anything, a guy who likes stamp collecting is kinda likely to be attracted to a girl with the same interest... It's just the whole 'we can relate' thing in place that makes working at a relationship easier.

I game in lingerie.

I don't understand why guys think that's hot. I just think it's comfortable.

[small]I'm kidding.[/small]
But, yes I've been told such things, and it sorta makes sense.

I think guys that dress well [interest in fashion?] and guys who play piano / cello [classical music interest?] are more attractive as potential romantic interests, if that makes any sense. Same with guys who can drive and or shoot guns. If they do it well of course, no good if they fail at it. :p

It's just a matter of common hobbies or life interests. Not a deal breaker [or maker for that matter] by any means, but it's a little something nice.

I think everyone should stop making a big deal out of girl gamers. The less of a big deal, the more common it will be, as it would be less scary.
^This^

To add my own two cents, I find it odd that guy gamers are depicted as fat pimply losers, while girl gamers tend to be depicted as scantily-clad cosplayers. Of course, most of us lie at a happy medium. It would be nice to live in a world without stereotypes, but I doubt that's ever going to happen.

Games are becoming more and more widely acceptable by people though, particularly since the Wii came out. Everyone and their grandparents seem to have one. Soon saying that you're a "Girl Gamer" will be like saying that you're a "Rocker Girl."

I look forward to that day.

People are often attracted to other people that have similar interests to them, here most people being videogames. Means that you and her can have fun doing the same thing, and she's not going to try to stop you doing what you like.

Truth be told there's nothing more appealing to men than knowing a woman isn't going to try to change you, at least to some degree.

(this may have been said already)

I guess it's because your interested what they're interested in, similarities are attractive

i personally don't see it that way, i've dated women who've hated video games, it's definitely makes for more and better conversation if the women i was seeing liked what i liked

Things are more relatable that way

I dunno.
The only girl that is also a gamer I knew was kind of hot, but not because she was a gamer.

I'm a guy.

It is true. Girls who play games are hotter.

* They know how to let their hair down and have fun, they are not too "serious" to play a game (many girls think games are kinda juvenile)
* Common interests are important in courting so obviously people with similar interests (in this case gamer guys) will like you
* Knowledge and smartness is sexy

Simple as that.

I'll resist the temptation to try and pick you up now because odds are you live in America or something and we'll probably never meet. But yeah um... you're hot. Just accept it.

Haha Thanks :)
I have to agree with him. The fact that a female plays video games says alot about her personality, usualy meaning there strong, or enjoy male things, or are even attracted to violence like most guys (for referance see Bloody Mess perk on fallout)

It makes you (or a girl in general) more attractive, because a guy thinks "this is someone who I could acutally spend time with. Of course it's not just video games, if a girl like just likes video games it doesn't make her attractive, but that's because the other things usualy go with the territory.

For instance I met a girl at the libary one time, at first I didn't think much of her at first, but then she told me she plays video games and I was interested because I that usualy means she likes other things like that, after we talked a while I discovered I was right, she likes Evil dead and all horror movies, star wars, good books, action movies, and she even LARPs. So it was obviously someone I would enjoy spending time with (we're not together or anything but she's now one of my best friends)

Also intelligance is very attractive, ...it just is lol

but the fact that they'd get all the obscure refrances and jokes, it's appealing.

So yeh. I agree with bonsaiK, you're attractive, like it or not. Not gunna try to pick you up cuz in reallity I'm just some dude on a form and your just a chick on a forum, and you probably don't live anywhere near florida but none the less it's cool you play video games, and it's attractive.

Hmm..I did do a thread like this a while ago but since your new I won't *ahem* "Be That Guy"...Yes there is the allure of female gamers but as many have said, it all depends on the person whether they are "hot", they could be (like I'm sure you and most gamers are) a sweet person who games cos its fun. Or they could be a stuck up little princess on a DS-lite cos Daddy could afford it. It all depends you see.
