Lets just pretend it doesn't exist and its just a natural cycle of Earth. Do we really want to take that chance?

On one hand I suppose it will cool down eventually on the other, Death of millions upon millions of lives human and animal... You must have a good fucking hand.
I beleive its called climate change now, and it does exist naturally. Humans are accelerating the process.

(Im not an expert, so take everything I say with a grain of salt)

Anyway I do beleive climate change moves in a cycle, a very large cycle, but a cycle none the less. During the medeval times scientists have discover what may have been a "mini ice age." Temperatures reached incredible lows and many farmers had a very hard time making a living. In modern times we are reaching the other end of that cycle, the warm end. We are making much better time than we were in the dark ages though, we are also increasing the effects. The earth being the hydrosphere it is will cool itself eventually untill we reach the other side of the cycle and the warming begins again.

As for the ozone layer, florocarbons eat ozone not CO[sub]2[/sub].

It's already happened before, resulting in the Ice Age, and then melting us out of it. Although the hole in the ozone layer is going to fuck us over something awful.

Thanks that helps. Not sure what to make of it. Sounds like we should leave the scientists to debate it for a while before we take a crack at.

one thing, they didn't find out that the co2 caused warming because they witnessed warming, they found that it would warm because of the known scientific properties of co2. therefore even if you may think that the warming is a natural cycle, it will warm even more due to the co2.

Even if Global Warming is occuring, so what? It's hard enough just getting 25 people to stay on for a simple World of Warcraft raid, much less convince millions of people to change their lives instantly or even over a course of decades. Even if it is to save our planet and make sure our descendants don't perish when the atmosphere goes toxic, and Earth's climate resembles that of Venus.

The fight for global warming is a fruitless battle that will never yield any results because people like the status quo.

..........umm, ok..........so you don't believe in global warming eh?

That's fine, just be prepared for the great wall of fire that's headed your way.
GOODNESS GRACIOUS GREAT WALLS OF FIRE
yes i know its not walls of fire.

Just like believing in something doesn't make it real, not believing in something doesn't make it go away. Climates are changing, ice caps are melting - regardless of the cause we're going to have to deal with the consequences.

Even if the pollution wasn't causing it, it'd still be a good idea to reduce the smogs and and toxins we're poisoning ourselves with.

When it starts snowing in April in a place that barely gets snow in the winter, you have to admit that the climate is changing.

Ive come to the conclusion that global warming doesnt exist, its the natural cycle of earth ever since the cavemen created the fire and the wheel we were bound for the world to get hotter. BRING IT ON SUN, I DON'T NEED AN OZONE LAYER!

EDIT:let the flameing begin!(pun intended)
Yeah, away with you Trolly McTrollson.
Global warming exists. To deny it is the same as denying the sky is blue. Just look at many ice core records. Not to mention, it's pretty much definite that it is an anthropogenic change (C14 Isotope increase) to CO2 levels, which almost certainly play a part in global warming (See Mauna Loa and ice cores).
Want something to debate about:
What will the effects of global warming be?
Well I live on a mountain. So I'll be having beach-front property.

Triassic period (its cyclic)

And if I may join Cynics bandwagon, exactly when Governments realized how much money they could filch back from everyone through environmental taxes, which just goes straight into their war chests.

The greenhouse effect is real. You Fail if you don't believe it (unless in the spirit of scientific discovery you have a counter-theory). Without the greenhouse we would all be frozen!
Okay, now what would happen if you stuffed the ozone layer with even more greenhouse gas?
Gas that keeps us warm + more gas that keeps us warm = More fuzzy warm... Ouch it burns! Turn it off!

Also to all of you who don't think that we can affect the weather: You'd better update your cyclone and flood insurance, because I'm sending my butterfly after you.

The Earth has lots of cycles (ice ages, long cycles in orbits, sun spots etc.), and carbon-filled periods, carbon storing periods (see carboniferous), and it is quite possible that the net effect of all the greenhouse gasses that we put into the ozone layer (and it is us doing it) will be lost over the course of time. Like the kind of time that continents move over (see Geological timescale). Is everyone unwilling to sacrifice a little money so that we don't mess our planet up to much? Even for the children? *sighs* I guess not.

But seriously the key point is that we have alternative energy sources available, and we are not using them. Renewable energy sources.

[...]Have you heard about when he asked a scientist to calculate how much the temperature would go down if humans stoped using cars all together? One onethousandth of a degree. XD

also swine flu is now somehow global warming related, can someone explain this to me?
Well what kind of a timescale are these reults on? After one day?
Sorry I can't explain the swine flu relation thing. Who told you that?

Does that mean we shouldn't try?

I think that the Earth's increasingly crazy weather is a result of climate change. Unless anyone can find me another significant contributing factor that has changed in the past century. The weather is a chaotic system, and I think scientific theories do well to predict the weather as accurately as they do.
Stop picking on scientists who at least try to understand the world around them!

After all, crystal balls have been scientifically proven to be inaccurate at predicting the future.

One volcanic eruption puts more carbon dioxide into the air than all of human industry combined so far.
Termites are a major source of methane which far worse a 'greenhouse' gas than carbon dioxide, yes no one seems to care about dealing with these sources?

Yes the earth is warming up slightly, however we only have records for the past 100 years or so. In a lifetime of several hundred million (unless your a fundamentalist christian i guess!) trying to judge how an impact over even a thousand years would effect things and beleiving we can understand the causes is incredibly naive imo.

Also just like to add, although we should move away from fossil fuels, moving to 'renewable' energy sources ins't always the answer. People act like you can take energy from the wind without it affecting it. What we can get energy for free now?
The only 'renewable' energy we could possibly harness without then having to worry about knock on effects due to energy conservation would be solar from a space placed satellite.

the thing is...the world isn't going to get warmer its gona freeze

theses a current that runs past greenland it depends on a certan level of salt to keep the water heating and cooling properly if the greenland ice sheet melts then the extra freshwater will dilute the current and stop the cycle ergo the next ice age occures to refreeze greenland and fix the damages
thats the theory anyway
That sounds suspiciously like "The Day after Tomorrow"
Also, have you heard how much Hollywood lies, and uses special effects?
yes similarly exept on a scale of years rather then hours and maybe not so extreme

Someone actually said this to me with a straight face the other day:

"I don't think global warming exists. They say that it will make for colder and more bitter winters. Why would it be called global warming if it made winter get colder?"

I wanted to slap him a little.
In Britain it will get colder since the melting of the north pole ice may disrupt the gulf stream which brings us our nice warm weather.

OT; well even if nit's not happening we should cut down on fossil fuels (one of the causes of greenhouse gases (CO2, the other being CH4 from cows and rice fields; bacteria in saturated soil) which would lessen (in the UK) our dependency on foreign oil. And for the record I say the money poured into the LHC should have been used for nuclear fusion research (although there's one known as JET which at the very least works but just not well enough to power Britain)
