Impressive work, fellows.

A good old Eldar Guardian.
I'm actually a huge 40k fan, I just can't justify spending $3 apiece for more of these guys, or more likely $80 for ten of them. So I play Dawn of War instead, and this guy makes a damn fine color scheme for the Eldar.

$3 each...that's a fair bit cheaper than in the UK. Most individual models are about £5, some are even more although they are cheaper in boxed set. That Emporer class Battleship cost me £19, but then they are OOP and exceedingly rare.

Varnishing your models really helps keep them in good shape, I can't recommend it enough.

And now, without further ado, my latest mini's...Drumroll please...are you excited yet? Prepare to be astounded...

TADAAAAAH!!!! WOOOOO, YEAH! *Fanfare* *Gasp* ZOMFG!!!111!!....*cough*. Yeah, um, not the most impressive mini ever seen, about the same size as a snotling, but rare as fuck. It's my pride & joy ATM. Old style Cobra destroyer.

EDIT: Curses, just noticed I missed a spot...well, that's the advantages of putting them under a 'digital microscope'.

And for comparison, here's Old glossy guts, the first model I ever painted.

Now I don't play warhammer, or any other tabletop games. I'm strictly a painter so for me the goal is to improve my technique. So anyone have any tips?. I want to try new things too. Use colour pallets I don't normally use, Paint patterns, etc. Give me a Task and I shall attempt it.

Well, I've never even considered the metal models, so that may explain the pricing difference...I still can't believe that they can charge $25 for a single metal mini simply because he's a force commander or exarch...

Holy cow...that is expensive...IIRC they are usually about £8-12 over here, approx $12-$18 (now that the £ has fallen along with the $). I thought it was an expensive hobby when I was a kid, back then you could buy a pack of 3 metal ork boys for £3-4, now it's a bit silly. Mind you, I'm an adult now and it's a lot cheaper than some of my previous hobbies.
...hang on...$80 for 10 plastic?! that's about £50! Holy shit. Usually costs the equivalent of $30 over here. Ok, for once I feel better about the price of things in the UK compared to the US. Well, at least you can rest safe in the knowledge that everything else is cheaper for you.

That's very nice work, especially on the Troll. I don't play either, get's too expensive and painting loads of one thing gets boring. a squad of 5 is about my limit.
I can't remember my first mini...it was probably one of the old plastic beakies from the 1987 plastic marine set...they all caught fire. I did have a few of my really early metal marines too, but they all had significant amounts of paint scratched off or I had inexplicably hacksawed off a bayonette or other little bit to spoil it. A couple of them were very well painted too (for a beginner), and the real kicker is to replace them I'd have to pay a good £6+ each on e-bay, plus p&p.

I might have a few tips/discussion/questions on your technique, but it's midday Sunday here and I gotta go give a mate a lift somewhere. Might be able to later this evening, though given you're an aussie I dunno what time it'd be for you.
Also, barring a few banshees, hawks, a warlock, a whole ton of orks, some fantasy longbeard dwarves, a bunch of old crimson fist marines and a couple more ogres you've seen my whole repertoir. I'm branching out into simply painting mini's I like the look of now, but when I was a kid it was mainly about collecting orks for my army.

here's my humble addition, a true-scale marine I made. I have two more of these, but no camera atm.

Nice. What do you mean by "true-scale"?

I basescoated his blue bits necron abyss, which is really dark and I've been lazy and couldn't be bothered to do a proper blend highlight, which would be a nightmare on a genestealer anyway, and they don't really suit extreme highlighting, which left me with drybrushing, which is a real pig to do on smaller models, especially if you have to make up the highlight tone yourself. The only other blue I have atm is enchanted blue (how I wish they still did moody blue...), which isn't really the right colour, but hey, ho lazyness demands compromise. Also, note to future self: drybrush the blue first, then the purple. Snakebite leather is also a better colour for making dirty looking claws (see dragon ogre)...must get some again.
EDIT: On closer inspection I think his eye needs a white highlight for shinyness and I can see I didn't basecoat his right claw arm enough, a couple of deeper bits on his arm look lighter than the shadowy bits...

So, I suppose I kind of have a discussion point/question. Speedy highlighting on small (standard trooper size) models...drybrushing looks great on larger models (see Troll, Dragon Ogre) but generally not so good on smaller ones, especially on small areas of detail, extreme highlighting only really suits angular models with sharp lines like marines and blending takes ages...anyone have any ideas? Maybe our super capable friend Mr 032125?

Also...just managed to get myself 10 praetorians on e-bay for the low, low price of £24.00!! WOOT!

A couple more I finished recently:

Bit of a rush job, acceptable for battlefield work but that's about it.

Hurr...looks like she's looking up at some gigantic beast that's just popped into view and is gawping open mouthed/screaming. Eye's look too big on this, but believe me they are tiny on the model.

PS thanks to everyone who's posted so far :)

I think your female models are from Necromunda, that gang wars game.

I'll post here after I charge up my camera.

Definitely not. They aren't Games Workshop mini's.

Please do, I'll look forward to seeing them :)

Okay! I've got a whole lot of pics, but I'm tired right now.

For now, I just have a picture of my favourite Sentinel. As well as a couple Stormtroopers

I'm really proud of this one. It was my first vehicle that I painted to a higher standard.

These guys are still a work in progress. The one on the far right is finished, but the other two are part of a new color scheme I'm playing with.

Actually, the Space Wolves are some of the nicer guys in 40K. Okay, by no means are they sugary; they are vicious, bloodthirsty Wolf Pack style butchers. But, they drink, sing songs, and generally have a good time, kinda like Vikings.

Logan Grimnar, their current leader, was even pissed off when the Inquisition ordered all the people that the Space Wolves had saved on Armageddon to be thrown into concentration camps for fear of heresy. He actively fought for the people's rights against the Imperium's secret police force. It didn't work, of course, but it was a nice gesture.

Oh, OK, cool!

Yeah I always thought they were cool. I reckon I could get big into the lore of 40k, if I ever let myself.

Would I be right in saying though that the Space Wolves were not as popular as some of the other factions?

They are an offshoot of the basic Space Marine army in the game. They're a bit more specific, and they have their own custom models.

Other unique chapters include the Blood Angels, Black Templars, and Dark Angels.

These guys are for players who want more unique chapters than the generic standard marines.

There are some pretty good minis here. I especially like the Green Knight from the first page. I used to collect Bretonnians back in the day.

You can find a few of my Tau minis on my deviant art page, under the name "moonpenguin".

On a night where I've had less alcohol, I'll try to post an image or two.

Ehhhh....just posting the link. Because adding spoiler tags at my level of intoxication is beyond me.

The Hammerhead still needs a bit of work to make it more presentable, but it works for now. I'll have a picture of my battlesuit commander soon(tm).

Thanks for posting.

While 032125's Green knight is good, it's his freehand work that really amazes me, the elf's coat & Valten's hammers inparticular. Having a mini look great from a distance isn't too hard if you're patient, but having it look almost perfect when you put it under a microscope like that elf of his is real pro stuff.

EDIT: Also, thanks for posting Soviet Heavy, I gotta go out atm but I'll comment on your posts later :)

I've only just started playing 40k, and I have all my minis assembled, I haven't even so much as primed them yet. I did, however, do something funny with the leftover bits:

Put purity seals all over my personal flash drive.
A friend of mine made a purity seal out of wax and paper (ie. a real one) and put it on his 360. At that point it had broken down and been repared twice so we thought we'd give it a shot...

OT: I'll put some pictures of my Guard up when I get time.
