New mini

As a member of the 'fuck it, that'll do' school of mini painting, this isn't quite finished but I'll probably never do anything else to it.

I'm a proud member of the Fuck It, That'll Do club.

Battleship still looks nice though - love that particular mini.

Please do.

Thanks, I've managed to amass loads of old space fleet mini's, the only Imperial model I'm missing is the constellation targeting ship but I need to take a break from painting spaceships. Also my desert yellow and scorched brown paints arrived so I'm going to paint some steel legion troops. Starting with a GL dude to get used to the colours then the officer.

Lastly: come on guys, I've painted 2 battleships with no one posting inbetween. Need moar minis nao!

EDIT: I also varnished the gothic battleship with purity seal but it changed the finish of the paints. The old citadel matt varnish was much better, it really didn't change the look of the mini in any noticeable way. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a spray varnish that acts in the same way?

Mini:

messed up the left eye. I did have it looking pretty good, but tried to get it 'perfect' and ended up making a mess of it. And the lighting is atrocious as ever. And it got covered in fluff while being varnished, I removed it after I took the photo.

This thread is awesome.

As soon as I find my camera (And finish painting some of my IG models), I'll post some up for all to see and make fun of.

I'll look forward to seeing them.

Also; question: anyone know how to get the dull metallic black/grey effect on the grenade launcher and ammo cans on this model:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1300112&prodId=prod1130559

I was guessing drybrushing black over a chainmail/boltgun metal base (the colour of the rest of the weapon) but looking at it the corners aren't covered in the way that dry brushing would do. Am I missing a paint? I thought tin bitz looked right but when I saw it in the shop it looked completely different to the online colour. Black mixed with a little bit of boltgun perhaps? Anyone?

It looks like chaos black with chainmail/boltgun highlighting. Looks like the brightest areas were gently sponged on for a "random chipping" feel. The corners look like they were lightly brushed with a layer or two of boltgun.

Of course, I've only been awake about 10 minutes, so my eyesight is still trying to flicker on to 100%.

New mini. I'm pretty pleased with this one, especially the way the main grey body of the ship came out. The paint scheme isn't 100% right but I have another couple to get it perfect. I'm not sure if I should highlight the red either, there's only a couple of places that highlighting would work well and the bright red looks good on it's own but it sorta feels unfinished without it...

Hmm...after looking at it close up with the camera I've decided it definitely need the red highlighting, at least on the superstructure, probably not on the prow. Will replace this pic with another when it's finished if I can be arsed.

Steel Legion next I promise...I already have him basecoated.

Well. Clearly you must write a back story for her, exploring the difficulties of being cross eyed in the 41st millennium. I suggest naming her sister Eliza Pfaffenbach. (super obscure reference)

Damn, all this really old school BFG predecessor stuff is awesome. You might consider playing that considering how light on the models a small game can be, you probably have enough minis already. Really wish my Thousand Sons Devastation with spiffy castley bridge was near done... or that I had a camera for that matter. It's pretty neat, took a bunch of the gubbinz from a cityfight buildings kit and built a little tower complex with them.

These pictures are really inspiring me to get on with painting my Skaven and my Inquisitor models.
I loved seeing all the painting people have done and it made me want to sign up to The Escapist so I could post here ^^

Especially liked the old style looking dreadnought.
It looked like a little box with arms and legs. Wonderful.

If I get into gear I might do some painting and post some pictures
(though it has been a few years now).

Heh. I got stuck on the idea that she had to be looking up to the heavens to fit with her 'up, up and awaaay' pose. I should have just had her left eye looking left, it would have been much easier to paint too.

I actually have loads at the mo. 6 gothic battleships, 6 firestorm cruisers, 9 stalwart frigates, 6 thunderbolt cruisers, 3 annihilator battleships, 2 dictator battleships, 2 emporer battleships, 2 tyrant battleships, 8 cobra destroyers, 3 galaxy troopships, 1 castellan shield ship, 4 ironclad battleships, 4 dominator battleships, 3 goliath factory ships and bought but not arrived yet (don't want to jinx their arrival) 1 dominator, 4 stalwarts, 1 annihilator and 4 constellation targeting ships. A very sizeable fleet by any standards.
Also 2 eldar wraithships and 3 eldar shadowhunters and 4 tyranid drone craft.

BFG wise I got a retribution class, 2 cruiser, 2 dauntless ligth cruisers, 4 cobras, 6 firestorms, a sword and a monitor ship plus system ships. Also a chaos cruiser, and seeing as chaos vessels are old Imperial ones I'm going to include it in my loyalist fleet.

Excellent. Glad to hear you were inspired.

Do you mean the really old deredo/firibundus/eddy type dreadnaught or the one I posted earlier?

also...Steel Legion trooper and Gothic Battleship nearly finished.

... For the record, this thread is hilarious for anyone who grew up calling vaginas "minies".
What I am saying is I snorted. Loudly.

Sorry, not much to contribute. Not a miniature collector. A friend tried to get me into it when I was much, much younger, but the rules bored me and I prefered just playing with them as if they were regular toys.
I just wanted to come in and say that.

I'm pretty sure it is a "my mum is kind of a weirdo" thing more than anything. But it was in England that I used it.
I dropped it within a week of moving to Ireland. To avoid lynchings.

...well, I shall refrain from making any comments about your mother, but for now...

Im happy with this one, unfortunately the pictures I have taken don't really show up the highlight and shade on the greatcoat very well, which is what I was most pleased with. I think the boots, gloves and mask need another wash of devlan mud to tone down the highlights a bit though.

I commented on your DA account scum, but I'll ask here as well.

What method did you end up using on the magazine to achieve the effect? It looks pretty close to what they had.

I did my usual drybrushing boltgun and then chainmail onto chaos black and then heavy drybrush (more like (dampbrush) chaos black on top. I reckon that it would have come out better if I'd just painted on the chainmail to get a stronger metal colour underneath the black. Plus I should have done it all first, I wanted to do the handle etc in the same way but I'd already finished everything alse and I'd probably just have got black all over the rest of my finished surfaces.

PS: Next up, an Ironclad battleship from spacefleet and a vintage Reiksguard knight from warhammer.

Come on guys and girls, you're really slacking now...

Probably should have left off the black wash, made it a bit too dark and the transfer doesn't show up too well. I'm going to have to try and work out a way of fixing that. This is the first I've painted so as usual I wasn't too sure of the paintscheme, the next one will be neater and hopefully improved.

Show you my mini's what? :p

But anyway, my CMON gallery is here [http://coolminiornot.com/artist/Amazon+warrior]. Hasn't been updated in a while, though. I should get back to painting, it's quite relaxing.
That's some nice work, it's good to see some non citadel stuff. apologies for not commenting before, I'm just very lazy, follwing a link to look at something is a lot of effort for me :p
