Alright, there's feminist (looking for equality with men, etc.) and there's retarded moron:

"I have to say that now that I have subjected myself to the horror that is Firefly, I really am beyond worried about how much men hate us, given that this was written by a man who calls himself a feminist."

"The first scene opens in a war with Mal and Zoe. Zoe runs around calling Mal ?sir? and taking orders off him. I roll my eyes. Not a good start."

Well maybe that's because he's ranked higher than her? If it was the other way round there wouldn't be a problem.

"The next scene is set in the present. Mal, Jayne, and Zoe are floating about in space. They come into some danger. Mal gets all panicky.

Zoe says, ?This ship's been derelict for months. Why would they ??

Mal replies, (in Chinese) ?Shut up.?"

What's this?! Someone is panicked and they become visibly edgy towards others? THAT'S SO FUCKING ABNORMAL.

"Mal replies, ?Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.? Yes, that is an exact quote, ?Sometimes you just wanna DUCT TAPE HER MOUTH and DUMP HER IN THE HOLD FOR A MONTH.? Kaylee responds by grinning and giving Mal a kiss on the cheek and saying, ?I love my Captain.? "

So? Kaylee is a woman I assume, and she totally agrees with the man. The only way you would reach these conclusions is by actively searching for things that could be interpreted to be anti-female.

Talk about having sand in your vagina.

[small]Hehe, see what I did there?[/small]

EDIT:

Just saw this in the comments:

Writer-in'er: I found your assumptions about and judgements of Joss Whedon's wife particularly offensive

"Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Joss uses his own wife in this way. Expects her to clean up his emotional messes. Expects her to be there, eternally supportive, eternally subservient and grateful to him in all his manly glory. I hope the money is worth it, Mrs. Whedon. But somehow I doubt that it is. No amount of money can buy back wasted emotional resources."

You are judging a woman you have never met, and accusing her of being with her husband for the money. What a shame - I thought feminist women stuck together and supported each other's choices!

Authour: Fair enough, but I'm keeping my tone. I'm angry about violence against women and I have every right to be.

I feel awful for Joss Whedon's wife. From what I've read about him and the interviews I've watched, I'm fairly certain that he rapes his wife and abuses her in various other ways. I honestly can't think of anything worse than living with a man like Joss who thinks of women like the way he portrays in his tv shows. How awful. The comment about the money was meant to be about how I personally could see no benefit from being with a man like Joss OTHER than money. Joss uses and abuses her. Probably rapes her and thinks of women as whores etc, etc. Obviously, Ms Whedon has her own reasons for staying. Fear, patriarchal concepts of love, etc. But I would argue that she gives everything and gets nothing. Money is the only concrete thing that she could possibly gain. But as I said money is worth nothing compared with self-integrity, self-esteem, love (sister/lesbian/gynaffectionate love) etc. So she still loses out. Poor woman.

I support women but not their choices. Choice for women is not the same as self-determiniation. I support women to become self-centering and self-determinining. I do not support their patriarchally constricted 'choices'.

Wow, just wow.

I had a conversation with another lesbian feminist sister at the International Feminist Summit
I kinda stopped reading there. I'm all for gender-equality, but I don't need to read the rest of that essay to know that these women (oh, I'm sorry, that's 'womyn' for the etymologically challenged bra-burning idiots among you) are completely out of touch with anything resembling reality and sanity.

She just needs a good seeing to.

By a fully qualified psychiatrist who can discuss her personal problems in detail, and recommend a healthy course of treatment and therapy to help her deal with any issues relating to men that could be having a negative effect on the overall quality of her life.

And who has a big cock.

I gave up reading this crap after I saw the line 'Zoe runs around calling Mal ?sir? and taking orders off him. I roll my eyes. Not a good start.'

I'm not an expert but I think it's common practice to call male superiors 'sir' and follow his orders. I bet if the roles of Zoe and Mal had been reversed, then having Mal calling Zoe Ma'am all the time would be perfectly acceptable.

I agree with her. A female soldier should never call her superior officer, sir and it is ludicrous to think that anyone should be able to interrupt a woman while she speaks. Women are superior to men goddamn it *hits table with fist*.
srsly, this woman is crazy. If a woman would tell a man to, "shut the fuck up" she would probably yell, score one for feminism.

oh...kay...

If there's one thing I've learned studying media at uni, its that you can read anything into anything- You can find sexual inuendo in the powerpuff girls if you look too hard! She clearly watched this programme looking for something to ***** about. Its been a long time since I saw this programme, so I don't recall if any of the points have any actual weight, but isn't this a programme where crazy tribe types tie corpses to the outside of their ships and going around murdering everything in sight becuase they 'looked into the edge of the universe' or something? I can pretty much assume that its not the same cannon as our universe - heaven forbid that a writer should make up their own rules of sociology for their own universe.

This crazy woman would probably like 'operation liberate men'(book about a world where men are slaves/property of women), since she's clearly so anti-men. As a feminist, I can say that I think this woman is crazy.

And that's the scary part; most of the comments are about how wonderful her article is and how they agree with everything she's saying, only a brave few have pointed out the errors or clear bias. Argh...it makes me want to pull my hair out. Women like this make the rest of us look bad.
I have a feeling more were calling her out on it, but she deleted the posts, simply because trying to refute people from an obviously incorrect and misandrous position is hard
Still, if I'm wrong then it's even scarier.

And this is a prime example of why I have sworn off dating. You never know who might be a psycho feminazi beneath their calm exterior of deceit

Ugh. It's women like her who make the rest of us look like imbeciles. I think I got about a third of the way through that atrocious mess. But I find it hard to take anyone who uses words like fuck to present their argument. If you can't be eloquent enough to not use swear words to present your opinion, you shouldn't be arguing for a cause. Well, that's my opinion anyways.

"In the future all comments that are:

pro-porn
pro-prostitution
woman-blaming
racist
misogynist
lesbophobic
pro-capitalist
...or otherwise woman-hating

will not be tolerated on this journal and will be automatically deleted.

I love to have good discussions with other women who do not always agree with me. But I will not allow comments that are insulting, woman-hating or potentially silencing of women."

Oh, so that's how you become sure you're always right - you stamp out everyone that disagrees with you.

The pro-capitalist one is just weird though.

I was unaware that I, as a man, hated women. Thank you for clearing this up, Ms. LiveJournal-is-a-legitimate-medium.

God dammit, Gestapo Hunter, you made me waste an hour and a half writing a response, creating an account, and sending it to her via a pm.

It's interesting how she seems to think her viewpoint is the correct one, so not only is she misandric she's also chauvinistic as a differing opinion from another woman is just as disregarded.

Also being a lesbian doesn't this mean she, by her definition is only interested in other women for sex? and is therefore an evil rapist just like all men. because god forbid a man have an equal and caring relationship with a woman, men just aren't capable of that.

Holy shit if there wasn't evidence enough that she is a sexist who thinks women are superior already. Now she decided "homophobic" isn't good enough.

Umm, Mal and Jayne are ignorant assholes in the beginning, and were intended to humanize later in the series.. but they never got a chance because Fox basically sabotaged the show.

apart from that, her throwing the word fuck toy around made me horny, so now I have to go watch porn

I love how all the women complaining about good looking women in the media somehow overlook the fact that it's mostly good looking men that get hired too, and that it's usually less attractive men that have the same roles as less attractive women.

Why was she raging so damn much about the second-in-command saying "Sir" to her captain? >_>
Silly woman...
