kingdom hear.....no disney character got annoying...then again i could watch them die...

Final Fantasy Se....nah..to much hype and the game play did get quite tedious sometimes

Pokemon...no fuckin way. too much grinding and walking, not good enough story.

how bout chrono trigger...it was pretty fun actually can't really think of a down side. the plot was solid not many random enemies, you could go wail on the final boss at anytime and grinding in that game was kinda fun. especially since the battles where over so quickly and you didn't have to do it that often because the game play appropriately put you in enough battles to keep you ready for most challeges.

Knights of the Old Republic. The story was pure excellence bar none. I have never been so engrossed in a video game, ever. It's been my model for a perfect game ever since I first finished it.

Dragon Age: Origins and Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodlines follow it up. I still need to get my hands on Baldur's Gate.

I liked playing Mass Effect but I felt the story was kind of hokey... Like some kind of summer Hollywood blockbuster. Kaiden also pissed me off with his yes-ma'am normalness. Blech. Oblivion was fun for slashing but the story was garbage.

I hope someday that something will top KotOR for me, but so far nothing can.

I can't just pick one.

Fallout (the best ending)
Planescape: Torment (the best story and the best skull)
Deus Ex
System Shock II (the best "you are screwed" feeling) ; surprised noone actually picked that one
Baldurs Gate II

and of course Fallout 2

World of Warcraft
It isn't as compelling or touching as many other games but it has a HUGE world with mountains of depths to explore, not only in its quests and lore (Of which there are several thousand books of) but it's in game mechanics are constantly shifting bringing people to use immense amounts of math and theory craft to think things out. Plus the constant new content and world events, it is the best rpg of all time.

Suikoden 2 has been the most memorable for me, I just didn't want that game to end :(

ARGH! Difficult questions are difficult!
No particular order:
-TWEWY
-Demon's Souls
-TESIII: Morrowind
-TESIV: Oblivion
-Deus Ex (Even though I bought it just two weeks ago)
-Fallout 3
-Mass Effect (1&2)
-Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Strange Journey

Ever since I started lurking on The Escapist I've wanted to try Baldur's Gate, but I still haven't because of the constant stream of good games that are being released.

I'd say either Fallout 3 or Oblivion. And I've heard a lot of good things about Mass Effect and FF7.

Topic should explain it. The other day me and some friends were playing Dragon Age: Origins when one of them said it sucked. Thus led to me watching an argument of what RPG-based game was best. The two I heard most were Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I didn't know what to think. What's your opinion?
Halo is my favorite RPG. Obviously.

There are lots of good candidates. Deus Ex, Diablo II, Baldur's Gate II, Morrowind, Planescape: Torment, etc.

But I think the best one of all is Nethack, a game I doubt anyone else here has played.
