Guys, Episode 3 probably is never coming out. All signs point to moving straight to Half Life 3. And that could still be years away. I suspect it will be announced similarly to Portal 2 with an update to the prequel with special teaser easter-eggs in Half life 2 + episodes.

Gamestop and their ilk like to post release dates for stuff that doesn't have an official release date. It's just something they do so people can pre-order the game long before anything official has been said. Hell, Amazon still allows me to pre-order a game that isn't even definitively getting a US release anymore.

This is exciting news! I got my email newsletter from GameSpot, and it stated that Half Life 2 Episode 3 has a release date, at 31-12-2012, 2012 Christmas!
Please, those that have any information to help me with this one step forward, I don't know if this was a slip-up and they released it by accident or someone is trying to fuck with me!

The very last day of the year? Yeah, tentative is putting it mildly. If a release date is projected for december 31st, 2012, we can expect it i 2015.

I can see why they would have it on Christmas, Y'Know, to maximize profits.

Except it's after Christmas, and when someone puts 31st of December as a release date, that means it's almost guaranteed to be delayed.

Either that, or Valve is trying to throw us off. Remember how Episode 1 and Two only got publicity maybe a month before they were released? It almost came out of nowhere, suddenly there was stuff about Half Life again, and it was coming next week! I expect Valve to do something like that.

"hey, us, Gabe Newell here, and uh, we know you guys have been waiting a long time, so, uh, it releases next friday."

I have a theory that one day, Gabe Newell is going to walk into a really crowded room one day, pull the only copy of Half Life 3 to ever be made out of his jacket, and throw it into the crowd and laugh as they tear each other apart trying to get it.
