How about I play what I want, and you do the same?

If I could force people to play The Punisher (2005) with my mind, I would. But I can't. So I act in a manner which reflects my inability to force my own gaming tastes on others.

Half-Life 2 was good, but it wasn't earth-shattering for me or anything. It starts and finishes well, but gets bogged down in the middle with some crap levels. I also didn't care for the hoverboat sequences, which is apparently like blasphemy to some people. Thick people.

I played HL1 as a kid, it scared the shit out of me.

HL2 was decent, but the engine was an unstable piece of shit, at least for me. I always had problems with Source games using Steam. They crashed all the time. (Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines ran perfectly) Eventually I got sick of it and quit around Ravenholm. I don't much care for the personality-lacking protagonist anyway, so I really cannot be arsed to play it or its spawns (episodes, if you prefer), as that would require I install Steam, which I refuse to do. Partly because in my (admittedly out-of-date) experience Steam makes everything worse, partly because I really loathe DRM, which is what Steam is.

Yeahh, a lot of gamers haven't played those.

APART FROM EVERY FUCKING VALVE WHORE ON THIS FORUM
Just because someone loves Valve does not make them "Valve whores". I've played almost every Valve game, except for Day of Defeat. They just have good, fun games that many people enjoy AND CAPS ARE NOT CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL, BUDDY!!

I made this thread because of my growing concern that too many pc gamers haven't played the original half-life, half-life 2, half-life 2 ep 1, half-life 2 ep 2. I strongly recommend that everyone who hasn't played those, should definetly play them.
you honestly think there's a sizable majority of people who've not played these literally legendary games?
Well I haven't played half life 2 yet so ummm....yeah, but I'm not going to start just because someone made a short post about it. Apparently I am the sizable majority of PC gamers who haven't played half life 2. Whoo

Well I clearly wasn't talking to you then. I've played a lot of Valve games, including DoD, and I do enjoy a lot of them.

You take yourself too seriously.

Caps lock isn't a criminal offence.

Wow, anyone who hasn't played those can't call themselves a pc gamer. Just like anyone who hasn't playeda game ever can't call themselves a gamer.
This is exactly why i created this thread.

Well, thanks.

I have, but...urm..

Thanks anyway...

EDIT: And I might as well mention that I've never met a single hardcore PC gamer who hasn't played at least one of those games.

What I don't get hbout the H.E.V. suit is if it has medical systems then why dosn't it actualy heal you, and it's a bed idea to administer morphine in combat.

Played HL 1 back in the day, and it was "okay", but System Shock (1 or 2) was better. HL 2 didn't impress me. I'm not going to rant and rave, I `personally` believe it to be one of the most average FPS's ever to have taken an age to make. Which means it's got rather too much in common with Daikatana for my tastes (yes, really).

I'd rather be playing Halo 2 (or 3, but that wouldn't be a fair comparison)... =\

I'm not saying it's that great, i'm saying you can't call yourself a pc gamer if you haven't played them. Agree about system shock though.

What I want to know is, is it better to play Half-Life Source, or wait for Black Mesa Source?
If you ever finished half-life, wait for Black Mesa Source. If not, give Half-Life source, which I completed yesterday at 12:30 pm est. ;)

You won't see much of a difference from Half-Life, or at least, I didn't. Except maybe for the water texture, which is prettier and more water-like. And I suppose, support for greater resolutions.

Is that the one where you could torture people with environmental objects? If so, I agree, that game needs to be played more than Half Life, which is very, very boring.

Also, it's worth noting that the average Half Life defender will go on for ages about how Gordon Freeman is a great character, completely ignoring that he specifically has no personality, and how all first person shooters are rubbish unless they have a see-saw puzzle, at which point they're a "thinking man's FPS". Because five year olds can't work out that if you put weight on one end of a board with a pivot in the middle, that side will go down.

I guess you could make a case that Half Life 2 is a philosopher's FPS, though. I spent many an attempt to play it thinking "why am I riding a jetski which handles like your average ebola-ridden mule and how is this thing dodging rockets or whatever those [not HK's from Terminator] are sending at me?"
