when it comes to the halo series sequels, a quote comes to mind. "you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter"
I'm SOOO using this at critique tomorrow! Thank you! (about 6 people in my watercolor class are just crap with hand skills and illustrations) You've given me the ammo necessary to crush their dreams :)

op: I agree, I was disappointed with the look of the terrain to be honest. It was very blah. Now, the design of your ranking up after a campaign chapter or whatever with the explanation of achievements to your experience ... very nice.

You might ask, 'why be so particular with how it looks?' Because as gamers with very polished games pulling us from all sides to pay attention to them, we deserve something to give us completely immersion.

This 'amazing' game did a mediocre job. Not bad, but certainly not fantastic.

I was sad that the colors were dull and drab for a Halo game, but the gameplay makes up a whole lot of it.

why did you get angry at me?!

i don't even like the halo series! the story is terrible!
I wasn't angry at you. And, that wasn't a personal attack. If it came off that way I apologize. I'm just sick of hearing companies AND consumers use that exact excuse when someone points out the lack of quality to a games story mode. You use books to EXPAND and EXPLORE other aspects of a games story, not to make up for a lack there of.

Wow, learn to read and comprehend what people say before ranting.
And, here folks, we have the pot calling the kettle black. Instead of just insulting me by implying I didn't read his post, perhaps you could have bothered to actually READ and COMPREHEND mine. Maybe then you'd have realized I wasn't attacking the guy or his statement, but rather used it as a starting point for a rant about something entirely different. As I said, I got what he said, but I still hate that I hear those same words as an excuse for bad game design.

I was excited, but I didn;t follow much of the hype.
From a person who has played mostly multiplayer so far, I'm on 3 missions into the campaign, and I think it's satisfactory so far.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you in this. It seemed almost perfect to me. My favorite part is actually forge. I've already spent a good 3 hours making an epic map that covers all of forge world! I really didn't buy into the hype. After ODST I kind of lost interest but then I saw the forge world Trailer and I bought the game just for that. As far as I'm concerned this is 4 great games in one.

That's good, considering with the CoD Campaign you wouldn't even have to stop while playing. Any unfair player patterns in gameplay?(i.e. too much grenade spam, jetpackers, everyone on your team leaving during the middle of the match ARG)

Gotta love Forge. Spent a good day working on a crazy puzzle map on Sandbox.

i couldn't agree more. i love how Bungie called it there "swan song" to Halo, yeah right... i mean not even the graphics are that great... disappointing.

I thought it was a great way to end a series. It looked good, although it was a little drab, and it felt more like the original (and best, in my opinion) than any of the others. The A.I. was intelligent, and gave you a run for your money on harder levels. In multiplayer, the new load-outs keep things interesting, and the support for it runs smoothly. And Forge World is an absolute dream come true. If you didn't follow the hype (like me), than this game will probably be enjoyable.

Honestly? Best damned campaign I've played for Halo. And yes, I had read the novel "Fall of Reach" a long while ago. I know the fundamental ending, but the story of Noble Team is still no less epic.

I've only played a few hours, but I thought it was really fun. Why the fuck are you people taking this shit so seriously? It's a game, have fun with it, stop looking so closely at it. Though I did prefer the novelization of the story, it was still really fun.

The ending was the best ending ever.
have you played shadow of the collosus? I bet you havent as you seem to be a halo fanboy.
*sigh*

Must you? Like, really? I've seen you around a lot of Halo threads lately and all you ever do is vent out your negative opinion on the franchise and subsequently insult people when they say the like it. I have no problem with you not liking Halo but do you really think you have some kind of right to insult people so blatantly like that and act like you are justified in doing so.
Believe it or not, Halo fans are NOT limited to just playing Halo, I myself have played a large number of other games aside from Halo. Don't stereotype.

I guess what I'm saying, in an effort to be polite, is just... can you please leave Halo fans alone?

Anyway, I myself very much enjoyed the campaign. It had some great memorable moments and the weapon selection was fun, there were some great epic moments and overall I liked the themes presented in the plot. It could have been better but as it stands it was still a damn good single player and had a lot of return value.
Plus, the multiplayer and Forge World are both great, even if admittedly it is kind of dissapointing that a lot of the multiplayer maps are actually just snips of campaign levels. But still, Forge World is great compensation for that so I am prepared to not dwell on that.

Personally, I think it's excellent. It really does have the definitive Halo experience and while it certainly could have been better at points, overall the main package has a lot going for it and I'm having a lot of fun playing it. Great music, great gameplay, interesting setting and a lot of fun features. It's what I've come to love about Halo all in one package with some extra new bits that I like too.

So yes as it stands, NO I do not think it is the biggest let down ever. There is a lot of stuff to love in this game and I enjoyed it a lot. I know it's going to get hated in the future because it's a mainstream popular game that can't possibly ever be perfect but as it stands I think Reach has a lot of quality for the price tag.
Ah Vrex, always a joy to see you post in Halo threads! :D You changed your avatar!? *le gasp!*

I am extremely excited for Reach and I know I am not going to be let down. Why? Because I like to have FUN when I play games. A shocking concept to a lot of nitpicky gamers out there but ultimately I am playing a game for the sake of enjoying myself. And what better way to enjoy my time then riding around on the back of a mongoose with a battle rifle in my hand?

The story may not be the most creative thing in the world but I can more than imagine it will be fun.

This installment was definitely the best installment of the Halo Series for me. Halo 3 didn't give me the right closure for the series, and the forerunner/flood bits of H1-H3 always mucked the mood up for me.

The only gripes I have about Halo: Reach is the strange inconsistencies with the novels. Though, Bungie has always failed hard in accepting the novels as game canon. If I remember right the only Spartans on Reach were the MK-IIs. In fact, the MK-IIIs weren't even created yet. And the battle for Reach didn't last very long. Only a few hours, but in the game it takes a few weeks.

It's not that grating of a slip up, and I understand how difficult it could have been to make a game based off of Fall of Reach.

Ah, other nitpick: controls! Since way back when I used the "Green Thumb" button layout. The main features of this layout is B being your zoom key. That's what I'm used to and that's what I'm good at. Having to relearn that my zoom button is now right bumper has been lame. If I could just zoom with B, reload with right bumper, melee with stick, and change grenades with X, I would be golden. Too bad such a layout does not exist.

personally I had initially anticipated a huge on-rail section with the warthog armada...big grand epic battles would have bee awesome, but after MW2 I realized they're not always as cut-out as they seem to be

admittedly the campaign was indeed very short...but somehow it felt more complete (as opposed to say...ODST)
the ending was big...really. woulda been bigger had the game been longer, but still... (well, it'll be longer when I replay on a harder difficulty)

You realize this game had the longest campaign out of any Halo? Honestly, complain about THEM, not this one if you want short campaigns. Just pay attention, there is a reason for everything. Plus, many bought this game for the multiplayer, seeing as the new Forge World is impressive. If you ask me this game seems much more epic game and story-wise than other Halos. So, no, actually, I completely disagree with literally everything you just typed.
I haven't even played it yet and I can tell it's going to be the best of the four. COD's a lot worse at locale swapping. One mission you're in Afghan, the next Russia, then Russia again but in a different part of Russia, then Rio de Janeiro(I know I spelled it wrong), and then in suburban America. As for length issues, I can beat ODST in several hours. It's much shorter.
You do realize that in the CoD series, you're usually playing as multiple people in different armed service branches from different countries, right? You're not the same guy taking impossibly short flights around the world.

OT: This is what you get for:
1) Believing hype about any game.
2) Expecting a good story from a Halo game.

I'm playing through Reach as we speak (err... type). I'm not really a Halo fan, I've been more or less indifferent to it since it's inception. However, I am actually enjoying this game.
