Don't spoil things like the end of the game. We all know everyone eventually dies and the battle is lost, but effective storytelling techniques that make it more impacting (like what you said was the "only thing that really sunk in") are better left untold until they are discovered by the player. Be careful in the future.
Just bought the game, Thanks for the spoilers. Jeez..

I just got it for Forge Mode.
Seriously... Forge is absolutely, mind bogglingly amazing.

It's worth the price of the game for that feature alone. It's like Halo Lego!

I don't think I have ever gotten so addicted to something so quickly, the stuff you can build is absolutely amazing.

Gamertag: Miracleofsound if you guys wanna share maps we've made!

I was under the impression that every game after Halo Combat Evolved was over hyped.

OHNOIDIDNT
Halo 2 tweaked gameplay and graphics in very satisfying ways. The problem with it was its abrupt ending. That didn't ruin the experience completely.

Halo 3 had its positive points. I hated the flood level. It was short. But, for when it was released, it was pretty. ODST: Ug so far. I'll give it some more time. I haven't finished it yet.

Reach? I don't have it. Did they tweak the graphics? ODST looked worse than 3. Hey, COD is out there pushing the envelope. The PS3 has Killzone 2, about the best looking FPS ever. Halo guys; do not rest on your laurels. We, your fans, can move on.

Blasted through the campaign last night on normal. Enjoyed the game as I have done with the others. Havn't hit multiplayer yet, but have heard good things so am looking forward to that. I didn't feel it was a let down as I havn't really followed any of the hype.

have you played shadow of the collosus? I bet you havent as you seem to be a halo fanboy.
*sigh*

Must you? Like, really? I've seen you around a lot of Halo threads lately and all you ever do is vent out your negative opinion on the franchise and subsequently insult people when they say the like it. I have no problem with you not liking Halo but do you really think you have some kind of right to insult people so blatantly like that and act like you are justified in doing so.
Believe it or not, Halo fans are NOT limited to just playing Halo, I myself have played a large number of other games aside from Halo. Don't stereotype.

I guess what I'm saying, in an effort to be polite, is just... can you please leave Halo fans alone?
let's put it his way, if you get punched in the stomach numerous times by something, you start to hate it.
If we are to use that analogy, to put it another way:
"If you keep on looking for and obsessing over getting punched in the stomach and in fact go out of your way to allow it to happen, you aren't in any position to complain."

I.E if you don't like Halo, no one is forcing you to reply to every thread, no one is forcing you to get into debates with the fanbase, no one is forcing you to have to acknowledge in any way shape or form the very existence of the franchise.

And yet, you do. You erupt flame wars in Halo threads and you make sure every thread involving Halo has to have your negative opinion drenched in it. Hence you aren't being 'punched in the guy numerous times' as you are 'grabbing someone's fist and slamming it willfully into your own chest'.
Point is, you can't just use the fact that the game exists and that people like it as a good enough excuse to go around insulting people.

Well that's a basic necessity of the game; it's been known since before this game existed. But the OP revealed exactly how they ended the game, which would be better left unsaid.

Wow are we complaining that a generic space marine shooter is generic and contains space marines?

Of course it didn't live up to the hype. It didn't live up to the hype the first time, second time, third, fourth or 6 billionth.

I'm sure the Halo games are great, if you're into that sort of thing, but if you haven't caught on by now that Microsoft overhype everything then you're an idiot.

I haven't played a Halo game since the first one, and so since there was no hype for me I was pleasantly surprised by this game, and have been enjoying it a bunch.

I guess the lesson is not to follow 'big' games until after they come out, have decided whether it's worth the $60 on your own, and played it some. I know Warhammer Online sucked me in with the hype, oi vey that was a mistake, but experience is what life's all about.

You realize this game had the longest campaign out of any Halo? Honestly, complain about THEM, not this one if you want short campaigns. Just pay attention, there is a reason for everything. Plus, many bought this game for the multiplayer, seeing as the new Forge World is impressive. If you ask me this game seems much more epic game and story-wise than other Halos. So, no, actually, I completely disagree with literally everything you just typed.
I haven't even played it yet and I can tell it's going to be the best of the four. COD's a lot worse at locale swapping. One mission you're in Afghan, the next Russia, then Russia again but in a different part of Russia, then Rio de Janeiro(I know I spelled it wrong), and then in suburban America. As for length issues, I can beat ODST in several hours. It's much shorter.
You do realize that in the CoD series, you're usually playing as multiple people in different armed service branches from different countries, right? You're not the same guy taking impossibly short flights around the world.

OT: This is what you get for:
1) Believing hype about any game.
2) Expecting a good story from a Halo game.
I know, I'm just saying they switched about a lot. Halo 2 did it as well. After one Earth mission, you play on a facility in a gas planet some distance away from Earth.

I wouldn't call it a let down seeing how I never considered buying it, but then again I had no expectations beyond that it would be colourfull and stupid.

Super fail. Seeing as how I was comparing the game to other halos, your comment is invalid, but I'll amuse you.

As far as the halos go, it had an extremely good ending, the best in any halo game.

And there are better endings than Shadow of Collosus, while it was a good ending, it is not the best I've seen.
Thanks for the wild accusation, though, it did make my day.

As for the fanboy comment, you have two things wrong. One, I'm a lady. Two, give the Halo games some merit, while they are not the best games in the world (far from it actually), they have actually done a lot of the gaming industry. Anyone who says otherwise is completely oblivious. You can thank the Halo games for the boom in online console play. Halo really made online gaming (for consoles) a big deal and really popularized it.

The games themselves are alright. I'm not a fan girl, but I can stand back and enjoy the games, just like to try to do with an other $60 game purchase I make.

Also, seeing as you're still relatively new to the forums, don't accuse people of fanboy/fangirlism, it makes you, the accuser, look very bad.

Wow. So saying 'biggest let down EVAR' really has become the new 'cool' thing to do. Really pisses me off to see people start whining whenever a popular AAA title comes out. It's really petulant. It was the same with Modern Warfare 2. I know that had its problems, but christ the amount of whining from the community was just so irritating. This isn't the only forum i've seen the 'cry moar Reach sucks' thread either.

No, Reach was not a let down. It was the best campaign of the series. It humanised your character and your squad. It made you care about your squad and as you knew what was going to happen in the end, you had a sense of impending doom, and yet the bit towards the end where you hold out against impossible odds á-la '300' showed that Noble Team wasn't ready to go down without a fight. It felt like there was an actual war going on around me as opposed to wading through leagues of covenant and being a one man army, as we so often saw with Master Chief. I also thought it was reasonably long, too, but maybe that's because i played in Legendary. What with the new daily and weekly challenges system too i feel i have something to roughly strive for when i get online as opposed to just killing time in random matchmaking sessions. If i had to fault it, i'd say Invasion Slayer is very weak. There's just no point to capturing points on the map for reinforcements when you're a sitting duck while you do and the enemy can still use your weapons and vehicles if they kill you and come claim it. It's like a broken king of the hill.
