I think people need to distinguish between hate and dislike.
This. Hate is a really strong concept and people use the word too much. I try not to hate or even actively dislike things because it makes my life a misery whenever I have to associate with them

I have to disagree with your conclusion sir.
Doctor What said:
I've come to the conclusion, that there isn't enough time or energy in this world for hate.
As a very hateful individual myself, I'd like to point out that sometimes hate is the default, and love or even indifference is the quality that requires time and effort. Let's say there's someone (coworker, friend's friend, classmate, someone difficult to avoid) who does absolutely nothing but gives you bullshit constantly. Is it really taking time and effort to hate that person, or is it just the natural state of being that exists because of previous circumstances? Also, would you even WANT to forgive that person, or would you rather just not worry about the internal conflict, try and avoid them as much as possible, and hope the opportunity arises to give their face a much needed knuckle renovation?

I can't answer these questions for you, but I definitely know my answers. I've heard the whole "Why would you go out of your way to hate someone" thing before, which may or may not be the stance you're trying to take because yours is a bit more vague, but it always kind of struck me as odd, because very often I've seen and embraced it as natural. Maybe I'm the weird one, but I'm all about the whole "be yourself" kind of thing. I say let your opinions form naturally. If that results in you hating something, there's no reason why you should try to like it.

What are your opinions on hate and loathing?
I really loved that movie, it was a classic!
Oh, you meant the actual emotions. Well you can't really remove an emotion, and every emotion is there for a reason no matter how much you dislike it.

HATE KEEPS YOU ALIVE!

But seriously, it burns out as you get older. (And if it doesn't you'll die of some complication from high blood pressure so you'd better stop hating.)

I'm not sure that Love is the antithesis of Hate.

There are certain things I love hating. Like Heroin dealers, for instance. I think what's more important isn't how one feels but how one acts with those feelings. For my part, I won't go around stabbing Heroin dealers; I might use my anger and frustration to counter-act those Pushers, though. I'd enjoy watching Pushers starve because they can't sell their product.

Hate is part of life as a sentient being. It's like attempting to will your sense of smell out of existence. Playing a semantics game won't purge yourself of negative thoughts, either.

On that note, I hate eye boogers.

Meh. If you work me to the point where I hate you, then you deserve it. It really takes a BUNCH of shit to make me hate someone. So I won't waste time trying to stifle it.

My hatred of politicians is sometimes what keeps me going. I can't allow those thieves and murderers to go unpunished, and I certainly can't allow their control to be unchallenged. So I must continue to work towards my goals of using film to express a message against them, no matter how seemingly impossible it is. If I did not hate them for what they did to me, what they did to this country, then I would have forgave them, and they would remain unchallenged as they continue to trample over simple human rights. True, hate is sometimes the reason for evil, but that does not mean it cannot be used a fuel for a fight against it.

Actually the Dark Ages was caused by the fall of the Roman Empire due to barbarian invasions and internal conflict. It was the church which took the knowledge from the ashes and preserved it, kinda like the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout. Alas just like the Brotherhood of Steel they were very slow at sharing their knowledge. Many of our early intellectuals were monks and nuns or were in the churches favour. Copernicus for instance whilst not a monk worked very closely with his uncle who was a bishop, his uncle also secured his educatiuon. Galileo as well was a personal friend of the Pope at the time who agreed with all of the mans teachings. Alas the cardinals who were greedy for power felt their power would be undermined by Galileo and the Pope if the intelectual continued his work! Alas that's human nature for you.

The act of washing was taken very seriously by the church. Afterall did not Christ bathe? Most of the superstitions regarding to washing were based upon traditional pagan myths.

As for witchburning...yeah you got me there. The only thing that I can say about that is during the course of history the church realised people were going overboard and started educating their inquisitors in the art of Law.
True, the original cause of the Dark Ages was caused by the fall of the Romans. And Im confident that your also correct in saying that at least a portion of the knowledge retained throughout was because of the church.

The problem was with the fact that the church policed information. People were put to death FOR IDEAS. They branded it Heresy, but thats what it was.
The church held back human advancement with threats of death, as well as the cultivation of a culture that was solidly anti-science.

Eratosthenes very accurately measured the circumference of the world 240 years BC, Hell Aristarchus had the heliocentric idea first before Eratosthenes was even born, and 1600 years later people are being put to death because they have evidence that says the church may be up to no good?
Come on...
Is religion the problem. Or people? Religion is a crutch for people who are after someone to blame. If you are after someone to blame, blame yourself. You are a person afterall. Name an atrocity caused by religion believe me I can name you three that are otherwise. End of the day the worst thing that can happen to anything, be it religion, politics, science, environment; The worst thing, the cause of all lament is nothing but ourselves. As I have said in a previous post. Is doen't matter if you hate. What matters is what you do about it.

Currently all I see you do is ***** and moan. What do you do as a person to remedy this situation?

I'm not sure if you read the entire post there. The main thing I was talking about was 'What do you do about it' much as you've said here. Your post clearly states what you would do fo instance.

I think hate itself is something really strong. Disliking something or someone is completely normal but I really like that quote OP. It goes along the same lines of what I believe, that hate comes naturally or forced, but you shouldnt let hate dictate how you make decisions.

Hate is what people do. If you're human, you hate something. While it's easy to demonize targets like hitler or stalin we loose sight on hating the little things like the ass driving 25 under the speedlimit in front of you or the irritating waitress that never comes and fills your coffee. To me those four examples get equal hate when I think about them because they are on my mind at the time. I'm an equal opportunity hater.
