I didn't fall for the hype and I did like it, but I think this game is way too overrated.

Well, I think it was very good for it's time, but I played the version that was bundled with Wind Waker. Am I the only one here who preferred Twilight Princess over OoC?

OT: Only for a couple of iPod titles, before I learned that majority of the games on the App Store are shite.

We all need a hug since I suffered from exactly the same thing (Cries) I will never believe game developers ever again!

Heavy Rain hype, although it was well worth it, so I don't feel bad about it.

Now, I'm a bit hyped about Alpha Protocol, simply because I'm a sucker for games with mystery plot with different outcomes based on your behavior. It have lot's of interesting ideas, but there IS a little imp inside of me, who's telling me that this game will be a letdown. So far I'm succeeding in shutting him up, and I'm preparing money for the release :p

EDIT: Also, not really hype, but 'BEST RPG EVAR!!!' comments AFTER the release made my buy Dragon Age on console for 200 PLN (divide by 3 and you have the price in bucks), and I feel bad, because it may be a good game, but definitely not worth the cash I paid for it (at least IMO).

The one time I can recall in which I bought a game purely based on hype, without even knowing really what the game was about, was Fallout 3. A friend called me and asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I said Fallout 3.... I didn't even know it was an FPS :p

And well, Fallout 3 ranks as one of my all-time favourite games, and it is without a doubt my favourite game of this current generation. So yes, I have fallen for the hype - and it was soooooooooooooooo worth it.
Yes this, I heard about it and despite not doing any research and not knowing that much about it I got really pumped up, the day it came out I went and bought it. It was definately worth it.

But one game's hype I shouldn't have fallen for was Spore, it could have been sooo much better....

Oh spore....

*cries in corner*

I'm gonna jump on the Spore bandwagon for this one. I was honestly looking forward to playing that game. I was thinking: "Wow, I'm gonna be able to affect the evolution of an entire species, then send it to space! How cool is that?!?"

After I got to the part where I was basically walking around, picking body parts up off the ground and pasting them to my creations face, I just gave up. This isn't evolution, it's Mario Paint with better sound effects.

/bang head against wall
I spent $120 on it, can you believe that? I miss that money so much...

Halo: OSDST is the only one I have ever fallen for, hence why i'm a bit pessimistic
even after playing the Reach Beta.
As for Final Fantasy 13 and Modern Warfare 2... nothing wrong with them in my opinion. They lived up to the hype.

Borderlands and Oblivion.
Both promised way more than they delivered, but they still did deliver good games.
It's kinda weird feeling disappointed and entertained at the same time.

That and Black and White 2. Thank god they were so far apart; otherwise I'd probably start self-harming.
I remember looking at Spore in a magazine in 2005 and going "Wow, this looks good." Then years of hype, trailers, seeing amazing graphics, full-customizable biological creatures...

Then we were given cartoons and no fuggin' water-stage.

Your never the only one. However I disagree entirely.

OT: Brawl. How I hate Brawl. I was hyped for 2 years straight, and a week before it was released, I found out they removed a lot of interesting things to make it appeal to more players.

Fucking Hell! Hype won't work on me anymore.

Halo 2 and the original Modern Warfare had me mad hyped. The Prey demo hyped me up like crazy, ALWAYS good when a demo can hype you.

Halo 3, and I loved the everloving shit out of that game for several months, after I finished the campaign, me and my brother played our favourite levels over and over again, and then we went toe-to-toe in Forge and FFA matches.

I know... I know...
I remember watching the gameplay video with commentary (the one with ufo on the top of the screen) in like 2007 around 20 times! It was soo good.
How did they manage to fall from "interesting game filled with goodness and fun" to "dumbed down shit for kids with brain down syndrome" (no offence to kids with down syndrome).
I hated the fact that there was no water stage too but the most painful one was the space stage.
Wait you are giving me fully working space travel engine ALLREADY?! No colonizing my own solar system first? What the hell?
And there are like 20 other huge civilizations right next to me WHAT THE HELL?
And I'm getting attacked by pirates on my colony which makes expanding basically useless because you can't cover entire empire if you for example take 2 arms of the galaxy? WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?!?

I hate them for doing that to me...

Halo 3, ODST and Gears of War 2 are the only games where I fell for the hype and was disappointed.

I enjoyed all three of them, but I had much, much higher expectations.

Halo 3 - The campaign was too short, it also ended almost identically to the first. Multiplayer was changed in a negative way as the maps were too small and the weapons were unbalanced.

ODST - They promised a stronger story and to out you in the boots of a normal marine, but you could still slaughter an entire army single handedly. It was also way too short considering that it was a full pried game.

Gears of War 2 - Too much change for the worse. The graphics and physics were better, but everything else was done better in the first.

I have.

Modern Warfare 2 for PC. On consoles it's fine I guess, but on PC it's a completely different story.

Oh and Spore. That seriously looked like it could be an absolute classic.. but ended up being a childish and overly simplistic game.

Halo 3 was a tad disappointing, was promised a spectacular ending...and it was simply a remake of the end of the first...meh.

Also, kind of Metro 2033. Heard it was meant to be really good. Turned out to be exactly the same as every other shooter out there. Blagh.

What happened to Fable 2? Fable was an excellent, fun game. Fable 2 was just...copy+paste. But not in a good way. And wher was Stephen Fry??? The last quarter of the game. Dssappointing.

But the worst for hype? The remake of Prine Of Persia. What a load of...

When Assassins Creed was announced i absolutley fell for the hype.

Sadly it ended up as one of my biggest disappointments when it comes to games. (because my expectations were sky high
