How do you feel about Duke Nukem coming out before Half Life 2 Episode 3

First of all, it's been 3 years since episode 2, compared to over a decade of waiting for DNF. Second, Valve has made other game in the mean time so the wait is justified in that regard. And third: DNF has been in development for over a decade, while nobody ever said they are making episode 3/HL3, they didn't even start so it's not comparable (unless they did start but in secrecy but the point still remains, DNF was infamous because they gave false hope while Valve never said they are releasing it soon).

I think it's fantastic. I can't wait for the release date.

"Congratulations, Valve. In less the time it took you to create another dull, mediocre expansion pack to your original dull, mediocre game, motherfucking Duke Nukem Forever was released."
I...I...I think I want that on my tombstone and not the pizza either.

It really does need to be Half-Life 3 with the time it's taken. It's all very well saying it's only been 3 years, but it'll probably be closer to 4 when it gets released, if we're lucky, and even then it's only an expansion which is about 3 hours long at best. It's not like they're even teasing it or anything. Valve aren't quite the new 3D Realms yet, but they really should be looking toincrease their output a bit, I'm sure they could do it without compromising the quality of their games if they were that passionate about it.

Duke Nukem Forever no longer matters seeing as it's subscribing to the genre standard of regenerating health and limited weapon bullcrap essentially removing any hope that it will be an old school romp with a thousand guns stored up your arse and the ability to do a Russian Cossack dance of death. So really I don't give a damn if it comes out before Episode 3 and feel completely indifferent. If it was actually Duke Nukem Forreals and not Duke Nukem the Pretender, I might react like everyone else and go OH SHI- but I'm waiting for the REAL Duke Nukem Forever to appear and end the world.

Do anyone care about DNF anymore? I thought evrybody stopped caring around 2009.

How many dare bet it will not be worth the wait?
Many many people care about Duke. Asking if anyone cares anymore is like asking if anyone shares your opinion. Yes, they do.
On a less angry note, why would people "stop caring." Its not like its all that important in one's daily life. Just follow the news on it when it pops up and go about your daily business. Its only when you become fanatic about something that a long wait for a specific IP begins to matter.
What I mean is that it's been over 12 year in development, by that time I thought most people have lost most of their patience. I know I would. And no, i did not wait 12 year for Starcraft II, I only bought Starcraft I last year. And no again, I dont care about DNF. It will probably just be a generic shooter, and I dont care about generic shooters and never will. Actually, I dont care about shooters at all.

I would definitely agree that it had better be a full length game after this kind of a wait. I wouldn't kill Gabe Newell though. That would ruin the chance for further Half-Life. And land me in jail.

I do find it odd that they've been neglecting it for this long. I'm sure Portal, TF2, and L4D have been making huge piles of cash, but they shouldn't neglect their flagship franchise either.

While 3 years is absolutly terrible for an episodic game, there have been worse things... I'll let you know when I think about it. Still, calling it the new Duke Nuken Forever is a bit of a stretch. in about 2 more years, we can start making that claim.

I honestly couldn't give two shits about Half Life-fucking-2 Episode 3. It'll come when it comes, and I sure as hell won't be interested in it. People say Halo's overrated...

Yeah, I agree mainly because I'm desperate for an engine change, and that'd just be the right thing to do with the title. Keep the engine heavily moddable, but REMOVE THAT FUCKING SPLASH SPRITE! IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT!

HA! I KNEW IT! Of course, don't kid yourself. DNF will be delayed again for another decade, I just know it. However considering Gearbox have their hands on the property now, I'm likely to be proven wrong.

I will concede your point because I feel the same way about Starcraft.

Not long ago Valve said that in the next twelve there will be 3 big surprises and this twelve months include E3 2011 and considering that Portal 2 will be out at february 9 2011, an anouncment for ep3/hl3(what ever) won't hurt the sales of Portal 2. So, I'm pretty confident that we'll hear something about it at E3 2011.
"what ever[sic]" is probably going to be the DotA project they filed a trademark for. Nothing else needs sequels yet.

Well, Valve had three years to launch a 6-8 hour episode, so... Valve can suck it! Always bet on Duke!

I think it's hilarious. I mean, here's a game that has been in development hell for 13 years, and its coming before Half-Life 2 Episode 3, which is way more popular( i only say that because new gamers have only played Half-Life and not Duke, probably) still, I can't wai to see the final product.

That doesn't make sense. Ignoring your wrong opinion on HL2 (I jest), there's never been any real confirmation that they're fully working on Ep. 3/HL3 and DNF has passed through around 5 iterations over 12 years.

It's not really "less than the time it took you to create another great game showing the unique benefits of gaming as a story-telling medium" since DNF has been being worked on for about 5 times as long - assuming HL3/Ep3 has been worked on since '07.
