I run around and try to catch it. Damn save files, always getting loose.

Snarky remarks aside, I don't play the game for a long, long time.

If I was far into the game then I will sit there in silence for a bit, put the controller down and eject the disk. I then will not play the game again for a long time, if not ever.

I lost my Fallout 3 file at one point due to corruption. Only lost about 20 hours though and ever since then I've been saving in 2 slots. I was angry and frustrated but I just started anew and it was all good.

My reaction to losing me "Perfect-92Hour-Level99-6GoldChocobos-AllMateria-AllWeaponsandLimitBreaks" Final Fantasy VII file is still recorded as the loudest sound ever found in nature.

I will play something else for about a year, then start over. I will get a tad upset, but just enought to throw my head back and groan, then whine until my girlfriend feels bad for me and gets me some ice cream.

Oblivion. Level 33. My dream character. Friend came over. Tried out Oblivion. Blitzed my save. Found out after he'd gone. Rage.

That's the worst incident, as it was a save I had come to love playing, and had done so for a long time, but nonetheless, in the three days following that, I pushed a character right up to level 45 following some intensive training.

Usually "oh shit" then "I probably deserved this".

The times I've lost save files are usually either to relying on an inherrently unreliable technology, or by attempting to game the system.

1) using one of those buggy multi-unit mega memory cards that weren't official Playstation products - when I lost my FF7 ultimate save game where I had EVERYTHING it was my fault for not keeping it on a proper memory card.

2) using save-state reloads for ROM's to get better items or level-up stats, or saving and loading multiple different save files for the same purpose. Or in the old PS2 Baldur's Gate you could swap save files between cards to duplicate items endlessly for profit. Deserved any losses there.

3) only very rarely have I lost save data due to something that wasn't 100% unavoidable and my fault. On those occasions the game is dead to me forever.

I stare at the screen in disbelief for a little while, take a deep breath and choke down my rage as if I'm swallowing a rock. Then turn off the game and do something else for awhile before tackling it all over again like a man!

I was trying to copy my friends save file of Animal Crossing when I was 8 and deleted it when I meant to hit copy. Needless to say he was not a happy boy.
