I believe we may just have a gaming travesty on our hands...

I do like the idea of incorporating what each game is about into a real life challenge. I'd love to play Halo based paintball.

But I gotta agree with SimuLord, competitive gaming doesn't really have a TV market. I don't see how this show could possibly make it to the finale without being canceled.

Did anyone else notice how they mentioned all those gamers from around the world in the beginning, but then revealed that the show only focuses on 14 or however many there were American gamers?

Did I miss something, or is the United States really that arrogant?
If by Halo based you mean. They have a Halo font.

These things are barely touching on the concept of gaming. These challenges are just like Big Brother, but with a nod to gaming.

Street racing? No that's boring. Street racing that's based on a game that's based on street racing? HELLZ JYEAH!

It's an American TV show. Of course it will suck.

Not really. I point to Futurama and Arrested Development as my counter examples.

Anyway, what can be said except [/facepalm]?

Ugh, I'm sure this is just another one of those things made by non-gamers for gamers. It's like watching 60 year old men write a TV show about a modern day highschool. It just won't work.

Okay, I had NO problems with this until they cut to the rooftop. Reality TV needs to die; I can't stand them. Jackass and the Viva La Wildboyz offsprings are as far as I go.

Also, the VG Cats have spoken on the matter [http://www.vgcats.com/comics/images/090423.jpg]
Wow. I'm gonna kinda meander off-topic here, but that comic was terrible. Way to rip off the Colbert Report (which has... what, exactly, to do with that gaming reality show?) And there was just a whole lotta "Baaaaw, gaming isn't a cult thing anymore! Waaaaah!!!" Grow up and get with the fucking times, man (not you, Paulrus, whoever made the comic)....

Sorry to go off-topic, but I just had to say that...
Wasn't the funniest comic I've read either. I just felt it was relevant.

They are trying to mainstream gaming...
Iam not exactly against it, though I hope they don't embarrass the gaming community.

This afternoon they had a marathon on, so I watched it. It's actually pretty damn entertaining. Yeah yeah, call me a simpleton or whatever, but I actually enjoy some "reality" tv shows (who knows how real it actually is, but it's still fun). And one that pertains to gaming? Pretty sweet, I say.

And the second to last episode had some pretty cool challenges -

The remaining 6 players had to go through "The Gauntlet" - playing 3 games, but under odd conditions. The first was a race in Project Gotham Racing 4 while upside down. Then, Rock Band 2 "One Man Band" - playing guitar, and drums with their feet, using custom drum sets inlaid to the floor. And finally, a 9 hour Halo 3 deathmatch marathon. They had to stand the whole time, and they were tempted with food and money to walk away from their tv sets, leaving them open to attack by the other players. Pretty neat.

The gaming olympics seems cool. Gives elite gamers a chance to do something productive with their skill but the ultimate gamer thing. Bullshit.

I think people are misunderstanding one thing - you're all saying they're not "real" gamers. They've won other competitions before this (it lists their achievements at different parts), so apparently they do have the skills. And as for their appearance, well, they're not fat pimply walking stereotypes, but they're not models either. And they probably have to be in fairly good shape to do the real life challenges.

You're all acting like this is a threat to our livelihood as gamers or something. I just think you need to relax, and just ignore it if you don't like it.

Wow, that's pathetic. I just lost all respect for the Sci-Fi channel.
Gaming isn't a spot, why are they making this.
Any one of us could kick their asses.

That hurt. That really, really hurt, you know. I guess this is part of the new avenue the syfy channel are now going down.

Anyway, gaming focused or not, it's still reality TV, so I'll give this a miss.

VG Cats comic was on the ball though, as usual. :)
