The mako was a death trap on wheels...especially on higher difficulties. A couple rockets could down all your shields (which took the length of a whole dang mission to recharge), so what do you do? If you stay in the mako, you'll die because you cant use the boosters to avoid 4 rockets in a row. If you get out of the mako and it gets hit and "explodes," you have to do the rest of the mission on foot because entering a broken mako results in auto-death.

Plus, yes, the dang thing never shot where i was aiming. It was always juuuuust a bit too low for the gun to reach.

Oh mako. mako mako mako.

[HEADING=1]ALSO! PLEASE NOTE![/HEADING]

For everyone that's asking, the Mako is replaced by a scanning minigame, and then a "Coordinate" is found, from which a shuttle launches from the ship and flies down. From which you then explore on foot.

Essentially killing the open world areas you could explore.

I thought the exact same thing.

irl a mako would be kickass. I would love it because it has a 155 mm gun which kicks ass. and it has a machine gun. and is hydrogen powered. it kicks ass.

I think his problem was more about how the Mako couldn't shoot below a certain downward angle than dodging fire. But I'm glad they changed it to on-foot exploration, much more immersive. I felt like the Mako killed the flow of the game at parts.
I know, it's just when I saw the picture I had a picture of uncle Sam lecturing the driver for not using the jump jets that they payed for.

and then Mr. T came in and it all got mucked up from there.

The Mako handled like an elderly man trying to ride a unicycle and masturbate at the same time... not to say it had its moments of fun. I am more glad than sad that it does not exist in ME2.
You have some experience with this, then?

Hey, I'm a Mako fan, too. Honestly, after I got used to the thing's squishy handling, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I'm also a good enough virtual driver to not get into the stupid situations that everyone else loves to complain about in regards to it. What kind of jerk drives a car right into some cleft in the rocks? Of course that'll be hard to get out of. Who drives their car into lava and expects nothing bad to happen? The delusional. Your space-car's alloys are awesome, but on a high-gravity, heat-warning planet, even LotR mithril won't save you from the floor when it's made of lava.

Awww..I loved the Mako too...(after I got comfortable with the controls)I played shite-loads of playthroughs too - PC and XBox. I'm actually missing it a little...

My only issues with it were HOW much you had to use it...and yeah, the eons it took for shield regen. But I floved launching myself of ginormous cliffs and squishing THorian creepers into little green paste...

I agree with you 100%. The Mako was alos a huge part of most of the story missions so I wonder how they're going to replace those with a shuttle.

Yeah you heard me.

I've seen some dislike on the mako, and it confuses me. It's pretty easy to use, it has weapons, it has booster jets on the bottom (I've dodged many a rocket thanks to those.) and all in all, with some exceptions to corners and backing up into objects with negative slopes, I've never had a problem.

So I guess I'm asking you guys, "Why did you dislike/like the Mako"
Omg where to begin.

1. It only handles well if you're facing in the direction you are also driving. Heaven forbid you attempt to turn around in tight quarters (For instance, the ExoGeni Approach on Feros). Unless you are driving forward and facing in the direction you are driving, the Mako handles terribly.

2. The jump boosters are useless and combat was terrible.

An easier way to avoid rockets then boost jumping over them? All the enemies aim at the very tippy tip of the front end of the mako. By standing still, and reversing about a quarter inch, you dodge any incoming fire without any need for timing or tricks. This boils mako combat down to:

pewpewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpew move on to next fight pewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpew shift backwards pew pew pew shift backwards....
3. Exploring planets in the mako was not any fun, whatsoever. At best, it was boring: driving over flat, textured and mundane surfaces to complete collection quests so you can get one more check mark in your journal. Or, it was annoying: you spent your time driving up cliff faces at 2 mph, only to see the ramp you were "supposed" to use 10 feet to your left. At worst, however, it was absolutely infuriating. I believe Nodacrux is the planet where you are lured into a valley by a mineral deposit, and THERE ARE ZERO SCALABLE CLIFF FACES OUT OF THE VALLEY. You must return to the Normandy and re-land on the planet if you want to continue exploring.

4. Driving sections were unnecessary. Almost every driving sequence in the game could have been replaced with a walking/running and fighting sequence, and the game wouldn't have suffered at all. What's the point in using the Mako on Noveria? Is the experience that much more enhanced then if we fought our way on foot to Peak 15?

5. The guns did some retarded shit. I would absolutely hate it when my machine gun would push some guy over a cliff for no reason, and then I would have to travel to the bottom of the ravine to finish him off.

----
The only thing the Mako did that was fun was send enemies flying. I love, love, love to finish enemies off by Mako punting them hundreds of yards.
I get the feeling you don't like the Mako.

Can we just step aside out of the thread for a minute?, you have a Mass Effect avatar and your a fanboy, you should be defending it at whatever costs...

Would you like some cheese and crackers with your whine?
... this is a good start!.

ok enough shit jokes, I liked the Mako, I mean i've not played ME but I liked seeing the Mako in action... seemed like the devs knew how to handle the beast.

Mako wasn't the problem, it was the planet surfaces.

Amongst other things, all (and I mean all) the side mission planets had too many too steep mountains. The landscapes were the problem, not the vehicle.

The worst thing in Mako was that the jet packs (or whatever, I don't know) pointed straight down. They didn't help in climbing (too) steep cliffs.

Personally I always found the Mako a much easier vehicle than the Warthog of the HALO games. But then I do suck at handling vehicles a lot, and the Warthog is a more sophisticated vehicle to drive, so that's kind of moot.

I rarely had problems with the Mako regardless, but I will admit reversing is a little cumbersome and boosters should be on longer especially when handling falls (recharging in mid-air would be really helpful).
Though I will say at least you never get trapped. You can always ask the Normandy to pick you up when you do.
