I just started running again every day. I'm far from fat or unfit, but I still want to be more awesome.
When you actually get into an exercise rhythm, it becomes very enjoyable. I do 6-7km every day, and weights once or twice a week. Even though it's just exercise for the sake of exercise, the endorphin rush and the feeling good afterwards are more than enough to keep me going.
The only problem is overcoming the hurdle of getting into that rhythm. My suggestion is start small and build up. I've had a lot more success starting on jogging and progressing to running than going straight into runs.
Don't buy into the whole complacency with being "yourself", as much of a feel good approach as that is, it is devestating to motivation. Feeling a little bad about your physique should nudge you into getting healthy. Ignoring those bad feelings and coming up with a reason to be happy being unhealthy is really unproductive, sorry Labyrinth.
