I personally wouldn't do it, and I would also try to dissuade any close friend who would do the same. The same way I'd dissuade them from getting tramp stamps or idiotic piercings.

I'm pretty damn indifferent to body modifications, but I can only think of a few reasons why one would REALLY get something like this done:

1. You're trying to draw attention to yourself

2. You're intentionally looking for confrontation.

3. You're not satisfied with being human.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't pretentious or an Anarchist or dissatisfied with been human. Maybe you really do want this and have thought it through to it's potential conclusions.

Just know that it will get old fast. Your not going to look in the mirror every day and think "Man was this great idea".

I think you need to think a lot longer and harder on this, I get the feeling that while you like how it looks deep down you are unsure, so unsure that you felt the need to ask a bunch of random people on the net if you should.

Also please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it banned in the US military? i.e if you had it done and ever wanted to join the army for example you would need to have the operation to reverse it, which by the way is said to be agonising.

On top of such things you need to look at how it will change you as a person psychologicaly. Please don't take offence to this but I personaly would question if you are really as sure as you tell us. You don't seem like a confident person, at least in this area it would seem. As indeed were you, you would have looked up all the info, spoken to people who've had it done with both good and bad results.

Honestly go talk to some medical professional's find out the real downsides to this, then really consider if they are things you want to live with. As indeed there *will* be issues.

You'd regret it almost immediately. Even after relearning to talk and such finding a job is going to be near impossible. Even if you already have one they may let you go because of it. I've seen people let go from service jobs for dying their hair or getting a visible tattoo.

Alrighty well i have been looking at this for about 4 years now, just so i dont make a dissension that i will regret in life lol but I really want my tounge split. So i was wondering if anyone here has it done or knows of a person who does it PROFESSIONALLY...not just some guy in his basement

I have a friend who did it himself. He started by getting his tongue professionally pierced, and then used fishing wire every few days to cut forward from the piercing. It took him a while to re-learn how to talk without slurring, which is something you have to consider. It also hurts quite a bit. I wouldn't personally tell you to do it as it is a permanent change to your body and if you are younger than 25, what you think is cool and awesome right now, could greatly change later in life.

You should also discuss this with a doctor to talk about any possible risks.
