It's just a list formed by some people's opinions (even if they are biased) We all have a list that differs from that one. People can stop degrading games just because you don't like them. Hell I could make a list of my top 10 games. You would rip it to shreds though because it would have Donald Duck Quack Attack very near the top. It's just a form of opinions. You can chose to listen to them or ignore them.

I agree with most of the list. I kinda wish it was longer so that it could include more games such as Bioshock, Mass effect, and CoD4.

The list contains weak titles and the whole idea is stupid anyway.

Nothing meaningful can come from lumping 10 years of all platforms and genres together.

*Yawn*Another WoW sheep who probably played HL2 on their X-Box 360 when it wasn't being repaired.

Seriously I'm joking though I'm just acting like you are, completely uninformed and so completely biased in your opinions. It just saddens me how my respect for your opinions went from "I can respect you calling me c*&(sucker for liking a game" to "This guy said WoW should be top list his opinion is now invalid"

Popularity=/=Quality
Case in point Sims sold more then WoW did and most people round here thinks Sims is a piece of shit.

I want to know where you people are getting your totally non-subjective game quality measuring device which the whole Universe can agree on where the exact position every game in the world would be on the list of best games ever made.

I know a chord has been struck I just don't know whether it was when you said Wow should be on the list for top 10 games of all time or if it was because I was stupid enough to watch 5 fox news anti-gaming videos in a row without break.Maybe my brain was already weakened and your comment made my brain hurty.
Hey at no time did I say WoW deserved to be on top of my list. I just said that it's notably missing, and that I'd pick it for best of 2004 over HL2. This is not only because it is so popular, but also because it has had more longevity, is more easily accessible by gamers of all kinds, and still continues to grow. You still hear things about WoW online, on TV, etc; you don't about HL2. Does WoW deserve to be on top of my (or this) top 10? Absolutely not. Should it be on there? Yes.

Also notably missing, now that I review my post again, is God of War I and II. Whoa.

Wait a minute -- how is Deus Ex not on there? And are we seriously still pretending that Okami is any better than the Zelda games it imitates?

Eh, I guess I was bound to disagree with whatever they wound up putting on there.

I also raised an eyebrow reading their Top 10 Movies of the Decade. What the hell were 300 and Avatar doing on that list!? They're both good movies in their own ways, but they're far from being some of the best from the decade.

they seem to have confused popularity with good-ness.

like generic mario game #9001 (note, it is over 9000)

and falout 3 was a brilliant game, never have i spent a collective time of over 1000 hours on a game and still there's stuff to do. maybe put it higher?

and HL2 is a good game, i'm not dissagreeing. but #1 game of the past decade? no.

also, GTA san andreas should be there.

I'm a little surprised that Fallout 3 has received such poor praise on this forum. Fallout 3 boasts an incredible new atmosphere for a game when compared to Oblivion (which is also a great game). Those two games deserve to be on the list for the sheer re-playability and environment, far more than Half-Life 2, which I do believe you have to be a hardcore fan to truly enjoy. I found it's gameplay boring, it's story lackluster, and physic's engine removed, nothing too great about it.
As for WoW, I was a WoW player for years and though I have retired it due to being busy, I still remember playing it for hours fondly, far more than playing Asheron's Call, Ultima, or any other MMORPG. And I do believe that it deserves its place on the list. It may not be everyone's favorite game, but it certainly has the longest life span I have ever seen for a game: it has evolved and grown more than most games on the market.
As for FPS games...if we are to say that FPS means all action where is F.E.A.R? The A.I. for that game was truly unprecedented, especially on the more difficult modes. I'm not saying that it deserves game of the year or anything (though I do love it), but in comparison to Half Life 2, we're looking at better more intense gameplay, a more interesting atmosphere (you can't turn a corner without that creepy little ***** running at you), and a great multiplayer mode.
No, IGN's list has a lot of holes in it, but as stated above, it's everyone's opinion. Perhaps we should make our own lists of best 10 games of the past decade and compare notes?

And there's no Mafia on the list, which makes it totally worthless
Thoroughly agree with you there. Mafia was a wonderful game and certainly better than half of these games.

Super Mario Galaxy can GTFO.

Halo: Combat Evolved? What?! What did that do that say.. HL2 didnt do?
um... you do realize that Halo came out before HL2 right? OT: I actually do believe that Halo should be on the list, as it is one of the first FPS's to be widely given to console gamers.

Hey, welcome to the Escapist!

Some good points here. Also, I find it weird that you haven't mentioned your namesake - where's Metal Gear Solid 2/3/4 on this list?

I completely agree except for Fallout 3 which should be replaced by Morrowind and Super Mario Galax which should be replaced by Baldurs Gate 2, Rome Total War, Demon's Souls, Dragon Quest 8 or MGS3

Did you expect anything more from IGN?

They're just a bunch of fat fanboys with shitty opinions who somehow get paid for it

I was about to add that as a PS! I was just so excited about bashing Half LIfe and supporting Fallout!
Metal Gear, where are you? Most likely hiding in a cardboard box somewhere. Maybe not 2 (since everyone would use Raiden as an excuse even though he totally kicks ass in the 4th game), but Metal Gear Solid 3? In my top 5, hands down. It brought the PS2 graphics to their maximum, had incredible gameplay that was difficult, and you cannot beat Hideo Kojima's writing (at least not in my book, yet). Yeah, for shame IGN.
MGS FTW.

Question we have to think of, are we doing the best of '00-'09 (because '10 was out of the list) vs. each other, or are we doing just best overalls? And are they again, overall, or are we talking about the best of the community? Also, would we count the figures of time out vs. copies sold into the factor? If so, it'd be 2011 by the time THAT one came out. You can't do total copies overall because if a game since 2001 sold 1.3 million and a 2009 sold .7 million, the '09 game may have been released in Oct. and the numbers be different per average

A true top 10 list for the decade would take about 6 months to get all the votes in, compile the data, ect. Plus if you did add in the copies sold vs. time they've been out, it would take a LONG time...though I forgot to ask, what about God of War? Was that game nothing to the video game world? Was the combat and story not epic? And even Batman Arkuhm Asylum was a game with maybe not the best story, but I want to keep playing the game after beating it, the secrets are challenging, the combat felt natural and easy to pick up but still takes skill the master and the gadgets are Batmantastic

I think IGN failed hard, but I also think it was a small group who all had similar intrests and that's how it got to what it was. Another mention I remembered, the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy

Another question to make this longer, do franchises of the decade deserve credit? The SoT trilogy was great, but the games on their own may not add up to their true might. God of War was good on it's own, but even stronger as a pairing, and with the 3rd installment coming out, will hopefully be stronger still
