I'm the sneaky bastard type of player. Move quiet and unseen and then use a shotgun or some other very high damage weapon from uncomfortable close range on the corpse to be.

Sniper, I love it. (Not sniping on any cod games, I have fired some of those weapons IRL (L96 blops, there nothing like the game) In css on DM servers I get something like 369-140 K-D sniping on a good day.

The sniper: I come in, get things dead and get out.

Except in co-op e.g. L4D where I'm usually the one that makes sure we don't leave teammates behind while keeping an eye on my back.

Usually the guy who can run the fastest, not simply because I like to run away, but its hard to hit something moving at speed. Usually a scout in tf2.

A rouge or ranged character.

I prefer to stab them in the back when they aren't looking, or snipe them from across the ocean, where they can't possibly get me.

Depends on what I feel like doing. Sometimes I'll run in with my brain back at base and tear up with a shotty or similar, sometimes I'll be a general support guy, sometimes I'll be a general assault guy and on a rare occasion I might even snipe.

I usually play the stealthy Rogue. Be it an RPG, or MW2, there's just something about quietly sticking a knife in the enemy's back that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Ironically, I always hated playing as the Spy in TF2, back when I still played it.

Well, if I can make it kill people I'll play it.

...And even a barn owl made out of soggy marshmallows can be made to kill...

No matter how I start out, I almost always end up a thief because I want to get as much stuff as I can. If it looks valuable, there is a good chance I will end up stealing it.

I used to always roll casters until one day I got tired of it, rolled a rogue and realized that was definitely my thing. (This is actually a nice parallel to my personality change over time)
Anyway, I play a rogue-type. Speed and accuracy over brute strength; acrobatics and feats of athleticism wherever possible. Give me a dagger and I'm happy. Though you may not be (>.>)

I'm always the assassin or really stealthy/athletic type in games. The art of killing without being seen is a lot of fun.

I usually pick whatever the group needs most, but if it's my choice I go with rogue.
In TF2 I go with Demoman or Pryo...in that order and if they're available.

I always go for a different concept for each of my characters. Role playing really is the best part of, well... roll playing games. Trying out all kinds of different characters with different skills and different attitudes always teaches me something new about myself. If there is one thing that is usually constant though, it's that my characters tend to lean towards good. I don't really enjoy being evil just for the sake of being evil but iv'e had a lot of fun with neutral characters.

Rogue or Ranger, it's the same in most MMOs, and then I roll a healer alt. I've just been playing the Rift beta however, and instead made a Cleric (healer), turns it out it's crazy fun in PvP, so if/when I buy that I'm definitely making a Cleric main character, which is a change from what I've usually made first in the past. I'm getting bored of Rogues, and how everyone QQ's over them, and Rangers seem to be gimped in everything, or have some bullshit support roll where they poison people. I used to love having pets too, I fucking hate it now, because (for balance sake) they have to gimp the damage you do with your bow so that you AND your pet do the same damage as another class. I do kinda miss having a pet named Bagels though.

EDIT: I'm talking about MMOs here obviously. In single player RPGs it's usually a Rogue because they're not at the will of some pissed off devs that play Mages. Plus, I really like stealth in single player games, even the shite stealth off Oblivion I found to be awesome.
