Let's play "How many people can I quote in one post"!

Looks like it's time to try something new.

So buy yourself a PC and start playing strategy games.
For me, that'd actually be something old. Back in the day RTS was just about all I'd play. I did try re-installing Red Alert 2 recently, and had a couple of skirmish games, but haven't touched it since. It was still fun, but it couldn't grip me.

I thought I was too. I'd go to pop in any of my games, even for Trophies (And I'm a trophy WHORE), then I go.... Fmeh.

Try Playing an MMO. AS weird as it sounds, its mixing it up enough for most people. Don't stay long and don't pay (I do not condone Illegal Downloads, But you should play WoW on a Free to Play server). But go. Have Fun. Come back to consoles and go... Fuck this is actually pretty engaging!
Interesting idea, and I do actually play a MUD that I've been craving lately, but I can't do that for the same reason I can't try WoW; no internet access at home, and as things stand right now, I won't be able to afford it anytime soon. I had no idea there were free WoW servers though, how does that work?

If you honestly want some advice. Just go out and get pissed for a few weeks. Or go do something active with your mates, like paintballing or something. Always seems to work for me.
Going out and getting pissed, while fun, is also way more expensive than a gaming habit. What I spend on games in a month would just about cover a single night of drinking. Stupid high prices and high alcohol tolerance. Paintballing is even worse, I went for my mate's stag do and blew about £150 in a day! At least gaming has the advantage of being something I can do at home, without spending all my cash.

You're on. We can paint it yellow and have crazy adventures!

But that's me. Play whenever you feel you want to, not because you feel inclined to due to the self-titled 'gamer' persona, otherwise you'll end up running yourself into a dreary pit when you could be spending your time excersicing or baking or something...
To re-iterate: I do want to play. I just can't seem to do it for any length of time. I'll spend the day at work thinking about playing Red Dead, but when I get home I can't force myself to play it. I wouldn't mind if I had better things to do, but I just end up watching shit TV or re-reading old books.

I also have that, and the fact that I am homebound due to injuries doesn't help me :(
I suspect the urge might come back someday though.

The thing is, I still want to play games.

I don't know what to do about this. I've become a gamer who doesn't game. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have phases like that all the time. If you still want to play games but can never bring yourself to do it then it's just a phase, find something else to do with your spare time and wait for it to pass.

When the time comes that you don't want to play games and it doesn't bother you, there's less chance that you'll start gaming again. If you weren't bothered about it then you wouldn't be posting here though ;D

You'll be back soon enough. You probably just need to take a break for a week or 2.

Sounds healthy to me but perhaps you should ask yourself, 'how much do i play' ? This could be a good opportunity to see what you could be missing in life at the moment.

Also, having played computer games for over 20years now, you do start to see patterns in games. Things don't really feel new much anymore (which is why im a fan of the Wii personally). Perhaps you've hit that stage where all sand box games are just rip-offs of GTA3, RPGs are Warcraft clones, Russians or Germans are always the bad guys in RPS'ers and so on.

You might have crossed the line and become a jaded old killjoy gamer who gets easily bored and resents the gamers with bland tastes who buy every new predictable AAA action game and keep the games industry ticking over. One of us, one of us. etc.

Either that or you are just feeling run down or distracted or something. Take a rest and play a game when you feel the urge.

I grew tired of gaming for a while, but then I joined a clan on BFBC2 and started on the tournament circuit, which has given me the drive to keep on playing :), so yeah, give that a shot

That's happening to me right now. I'm thinking that maybe I need a new game, but... then again, I don't really care. I have the money for it but I don't want to.
I pop in different games that I have, some that I haven't even completed, and I just turn it off after a minute.

It's happened before, and all you can do is wait it out.

I now find myself watching Doctor Who all the time since my friend showed it to me two months ago. Finally on season 5.

Stop playing NOW.

Seriously, just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror. I await your answer. You have a full day to decide.

...wait.
Epic Mad Max quote is epic.

OT: SO just take a break, doesn't harm anyone to have a couple weeks without gaming :)
Then when you get the urge to game again, you will.

I've been getting that 'meh' feeling about gaming on and off for the last few years as well, usually I grab some books and read until my eyes bleed (I love reading though).

Or I pick random topics (often fringe science for teh lol) and go into research mode to flex the ol' grey matter abit.

Or, if physically restless, bring lunch and a bottle of water and set off in a random direction and walk for a few hours. Does wonders for clearing the mind and getting some distance from the usual routine. I recommend forests :)

i also get this feeling, where doing missions in games/ progressing feels like a chore, i get this in RPG games nowadays, if i see that i must grind to defeat a boss, i simply will not bother.

In FF13 i would play a section of the game just to see story progression in a cutscene, the repetitive combat got to a point where i found it more fun trying to skillfully avoid fights by luring mobs away then running around the other direction.

Play some indie games. Free-to-play ones, that is.

...Sorry, just can't pass up any opportunity to advertise indie games. But maybe they'll be different enough that you like them and can play them.

Something tells me you don't know what indie games really are and are just assuming they're games on Newgrounds or some shit.

Goddamn you are so, so wrong.

What I do when I feel myself getting bored of games is buy a game which is completely different from anything I have ever played before. Thats the only reason I bought Sid Meier's Railroads, really, was because I was getting so bored playing the same stuff all the time, and the only game I had ever played with trains in before was Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends when I was five.

If that doesn't work, I'd simply advise giving gaming a complete rest for a while. Don't play. Eventually your interest will return.

Okay, you need to get a copy of WoW. This means either being illegal and cheating it off of the European Site or buying the disk. Either way it'll take a while to download. Then you just change the server list to one of the millions of good ones out there. Plus they range from Blizlike servers to instant 80's and everything in between. If your interested, you should try World of Opportunities.
