* I'm against both, but from this perspective, Cigarettes win.
Then you remember cigarettes fuck your body much more than weed.

Exactly, I don't think you can get cancer from plain old weed (unless its laced with something)

Can you get addicted to weed? (if you smoke it moderately, like once a month)

Well, I only smoke everyone 2 months or so. But when you make a joint, you HAVE to use tobacco.
You can also not use it, but it woul bd e nice waste of money. Weed burns very very slowly, paper burns very fast... If you'd make a joint without any tobacco you can say goodbye to at least half of the HTC crystals in your weed. The tobacco keeps the weed at a high temperature and with that releasing more crystals. And it makes the paper burn down less fast.

Those are the reasons you HAVE to use tobacco.

And if you smoke weed occasionally I don't see any cons unless you're easily addicted. But since I get stoned more often then high, the desire to use weed is not so big with me. Who the hell wants his head to feel like a fucking bowling ball to the point you feel tired for not resting it on a couch or bed :p

I have been over weed to much for the passed few days.

Pros; It makes everything jolly good

Pro/Con: You feel as though you have developed a false sense of popularity, then put things in my backpack. Then you laugh to your friends who actually hate you.

Cons; you look like a jackass and try to impress friends who just use you to buy the shit while making yourself look like a complete dumbass. As soon as they find another friend who is more dumb, it is back to you starting converssations with me again, and me being an idiot and not telling you to fuck off. I hate that jackass so much.

I may just knock your ass out tommorow Phil.

Ugh, I'm willing to bet you've never smoked a cigarette in your life, and you're damn proud of it. When did it become acceptable to pass judgment on an activity without having any prerequisite experience?

I, personally, don't smoke. But I have the right to make that judgment because I've tried it. I have smoked twice, and I formed my own opinion from the experience. I chose to do this, rather then borrowing my opinion from the posters in the nurses office.
Well, unfortunately the posters in the nurses office dont lie, it has been proven time and time again that ciggarettes give you cancer. And if you think someone looks like an idiot, you have every right to say he is an idiot.

And this is coming form a guy who occasionaly smoke cigars, the rich person cigarette.

Pros: It gives a small feeling of losing yourself for a little while

Cons:
-The people around you always ***** about your smoking habit. We know the risks. There! Now leave us alone.
-Quitting is a pain in the ass.

Cons that I don't care about.
-Cancer... In the end, we'll all die of cancer. I just happened to pick a specific one.

Note* I'm trying to quit, because my smoking went to "special occasions" to "a regular thing". That, and when I don't smoke, I have insomnia. I'm trying to get pass it.

Let's make one thing clear though: I'll never put some banners and bother everyone who's smoking. Like I said: We know the risks.

Funnily enough, this may be why most of us here hate it. Because it is such a stupid unhealthy thing, that unfortunately really does make you look cool.

I give you props for having enough e-balls to say this.

isnt this because marijuana costs money?? they can afford it in the first place compared to others who need to spend on other stuff.. and i guess if i want to be a nitpick, quote where this study comes from.
If your employer knew, you would probably be fired, even if it has no impact on your ability to function.

uh interesting, the 2 posts i wanted to quote were from the same person. ive also learned that marijuana is not addictive and has no evidence of brain damage... YET, is what i believe. i honestly dont believe anything that alters your state of mind is safe. alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, heroine, the list goes on and on.. it may not be physically addictive, but like someone said earlier some people cannot resist the reward, feeling high.

and the impact on memory is not just during intoxication, since its lipophilic it will stay in the bloodstream for a very long time after the high is over. meaning you wont learn anything for a long time after a joint even if youre not high. a normal joint or so may give you some minutes of high, but up to 72 hours or more of hindered memory function. and if you get a joint regularly, well.. sure, it might not be a big deal in the meantime, but short term memory ties into long term memory. they are not separate machines, they work together.

summing up, i believe weed makes you dumb. also, the above claim about productivity may be because they already had the skills learned before they smoked, so basically it could be done on autopilot. but they sure as hell wont be improving. also, i just thought of this, what kind of professions were they performing? desk work, manual labor? any doctors or lawyers in there?

and i hate the stink. i can smell weed from a long distance away. ive gotten used to cig smoke but i still hate it too, especially since both my parents smoke and my clothes start to stink when i go home.
That's taking it a bit hard as school performance for users and non-users is the same. After all, its effect of short term memory is pretty limited, learning, and new information recall is only diminished by some, but long term memory, and other cognitive function are not impacted. Also, this small diminished state only lasts for the duration of the intoxication, meaning a couple of hours, if not a little more. The marijuana may be detectable in your body for days, or even weeks, but doesn't effect short term memory at all.

Also, I see nothing wrong with smoking it for the high as after some much research, it is obvious to the medical field that marijuana is not harmful to a persons health. It has also been shown to have no real effect of a persons ability to function, or even drive a motored vehicle, except it was noticed that marijuana did make the driver more cautious. But driving performance wasn't impaired.

Has anyone else noticed alcohol is both more addictive AND physically harmfull than canabis, yet it is legal, whereas cannabis is not?

wuuuut? those are the cons you come up with?
you're on a forum full of gamers, you think anyone here cares about being unproductive for a bit? XD

how about: it's really very expensive to smoke, especially when you get addicted. cause I'm not sure how it works in america, but over here they put tons of taxes on tobacco to 'discourage' people from smoking. and it makes you smell, gets in your clothes, kills your sperm. stuff like that. so it's not worth it. if I want to relax I play videogames. or go outside and lie in the sun for a bit.

Nicotine (cigarettes):
Pros: Doesnt make you "high", meaning it has no psychotic effect. By the contrary, like caffeine, nicotine increases focus.
-Got relaxation effect.

Cons: One of the most addictive substances, and that's because unlike other drugs which use overtime causes changes on brain cells to produce more receptors to those drugs and therefore producing a reward effect on the user, nicotine attaches itself to the allready existing neurotransmiting terminations associated with the "reward pathway", or in other words, to the feeling of satisfaction;
- Permanent lung injury, leading to a condition called Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),
- Inhibits apoptosis (the shutdown of mutant cells) increasing the chance of cancer development, cigarettes themselves with the rest of ingredients are well known risk factor for mouth, throat, tracheal, lung cancer, and maybe oesophagus and stomach cancer. Many types of cancer occur more often on cigarette smokers (and in the case of laryngeal cancer, its almost exclusive of them).
- Although not explained/fully understood, all studies point to a mutagenic effect on child development (might also be related to the apoptosis inibition).

Cannabinoids (weed):
Pros: Less addictive,
- got some anticancer properties
- Lethal dose is much higher then nicotine and almost impossible to achieve smoking (its thou possible intravenously);
- Better pain killer;
- Anti-sickness effect.

Cons: make you "high" impairing judgement and self control;
- on the long run is associated with development or exacerbation of depression, anxiety, psycotic disorders and schizophrenia.
- Cannabis is correlated with harder drugs use but apparently not because it leads to it but according to the most recent studies because an individual prone to become addicted to cannabis is also an individual prone to become addicted to any other drug, most likely because of the dissociating effects ("high" effect) these drugs have. Also cannabis users are more often exposed to an urban subculture that accepts and even promotes the use of other drugs. Last, the diference between canabinoids and nicotine that makes nicotine more addictive in this case works against cannabis, since it causes the brain cells to produce more "reward" receptors it can increase the likelihood of becoming addicted to other drugs.

Pros: Temporary enjoyment. Something to help get friends.

Cons: You get nagged at to quit. A con with cigs but not weed is that it's really heard to quit. Basically, you have to keep on doing it forever, we don't give a damn that you don't want to.

Aaargh, my favourite hate topic.
Personally I think that there are NO pros to smoking. Whether you look cool or not is subjective, and the damage it does is well documented. You won't be looking cool anymore when you can barely run a hundred metres.
Yes it's personal choice, blah blah blah but I think it's just horrible.
With weed, you get high, which is alright but not THAT great- I tried it once and never felt the need to do so again. Cons- you get called a stoner, and if you get too deep in it, you'll look around one day to realize you've lost 3 years to the stuff. 3 years of youth that you'll never get back.

I kind of meant make a list of both, like Ciggys....

then Weed....

Like that
Hokay.

Cigs:
Pros - Slightly increased heart-rate / may make you feel cool / once addicted, fulfilling the addiction is reward in itself.
Cons - Price / Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known / Cancer / Causes you to smell like cigarettes / Gradually becoming unacceptable in society.

Weed:
Pros - Can get you high / Not quite as bad for you as other drugs / Jail sentences for marijuana related crimes are often lower than those associated with other drugs.
Cons - Greater risk of cancer (per usage) due to lack of filters / Paranoia / Other mental diseases / smells strongly / Good luck getting through an airport if you've even been near any in the last month or so / Suspicion of possession may lead you to get the fingers of law enforcement officials inserted into your anus.

In short - Just get drunk like everyone else.
I notice a lot of your pros are just, it could be worse kinda scenarios.
But me, I just think that any kind of drugs are stupid things to do. Alcohol I sort of understand doing occasionally, since there isn't high chance of any repercussions. I still don't like it, mostly because I hate the taste of alcohol.
So, Pros - Nothing.
Cons - People hate you.
- You might die.
Main reason I quoted you;
Everytime I see your avatar I think, that's my avatar, has he stolen it... Then I remember, no that's my desktop...

There are no pros to smoking cigarettes. People think they relax you but they do the opposite, people who smoke have higher stress levels than those who dont. The cons are they increse the risk of many diseases including osteoporosis, hearth disease, cancer, COPD, etc. etc. etc.

Smoking weed is very similar except people dont smike as much so there not exposed to the smoke all the time. You get a transient high, as some one above said. Though you can get serious mental disorders as well, such as flash backs etc. Its certainly not good for you, but neither is drinking.

Yes, people have known this for many years. In fact, Bill Hicks had a bit about it. I'm assuming from your post that you've never heard of the late genius and suggest you do something about that. The man was not only hilarious, but made some damn fine points.

My grandfather nearly died of smoking. Every day he went back around the kitchen, puffing on a cigarette or two. I saw him do it almost everyday since I could remember (age 8). One day after coming back from school he was being wheeled out on a wheelchair unconscious with an oxygen mask on his mouth.
The operation cost a large amount, they had to remove a chunk of his stomach during the operation, and he was treated with radiation. He was lucky the operation worked, but the smoking habit cut off a large part of his life.

Fortunately, he never smoked again. Since then, I've been on a bloody vendetta against cigarettes.

There are no pros for a product that is specifically designed to kill you while getting you addicted to it.

Weed from what I hear is not as bad as it is made out to be. As well as getting you high it also has a few medical uses for headaches, migraine as well as upset stomachs. It has the same cons as smoking.

The weed that you buy is questionable but a good seller, can give you stuff that is pure and good, and has nothing added like what could be added to tobacco when being processed. but on the other side I talking to a dealer who was saying how once he had no weed so be crushed a dog biscuit, bagged it up and sold that...surprisingly the guy he sold it to came back saying it was some good stuff...(so maybe you need to smoke dog biscuits :p) So you get to know the seller before parting with your cash.

Now regular smoking, if you like it yay if not too bad, its addictive and that can feel good to have that cig when you need it most, it is relaxing, and all that other good stuff...it is also quite sociable as smokers tend to be forced together at pubs and work so it has that to it also if you have to smoke outside then you are getting more fresh air than your none smoker keeping to his or her work inside.

Anything they say about cancer and all that may or may not be present. You may be more likely to get it smoking but you may get it anyway...some smokers like to 100 some fit none smokers die of heart attacks at 20. In part nicotine can help you by killing small viruses and bacteria in the lungs that make you ill. When my dad quite after smoking all his life, he got cold after cold more so than when he was smoking.

But everyone is different and it effects everyone different.

So ya there are pros and cons to everything...but I am sure there are a lot worse things you could do than smoke naturally grown drugs like weed and tobacco, like meths.

The ultimate worse thing about smoking anything are other people. Those super anti smokers who clam you are killing them because of your smoking when they are 100 yards away on the other side of a car park.
