Funny, cause Hebrew Satan is just one of God's angels that watches the world and gives a status report to God on how everyone is doing.
Then again, the Hebrew God is more human than Buddha half the time.
Its more accurate to describe 'Satan' as a sort of title. Basically, a Satan is just a douche bag that tempts humanity, try's to lead them astray, and challenges their beliefs in God, and when he succeeds, runs off to tattle to the big man.
Christians 'In the Know' often refer to such a being as 'The Tempter.'
A satan is just someone who opposes you. When King David fought the army of Satan, it was referring to the Philistines. Also, he has no power over people. The angel ha-satan only watched, if he interfered with the people it would create participation error. Only God actively participated in the day to day lives of the people (if he participated). And you're probably thinking of Job, who was the perfect follower of God (we know this because the book tells us in the preamble) and God, yes God, punished him to see if he was truly faithful. Satan just suggested that people only praise him because they fear him.
Christians "In the Know" don't often look at the old testament because of Hebrews 8:13.

By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear
Well, that and actually picking up the Bible and reading it is for fanatics.
Also the Catholic Church has taken all that is old and twisted it to fit their needs and dogma. Hence, Satan = Lucifer = The Devil.
Now, I think that is enough of that for now. I could explain Job in more depth and how 75% of people are wrong, but it works better if you read it without the whole "overcoming adversity" bit that everyone has tagged onto it.
