I remember when I bought Super Metroid when it first came out. For some reason I have two copies. I never beat it, and only found out about 10 years later that Samus was a woman.GoldenShadow said:I bought it on Release day. I played the hell out of it for about 2 weeks and that was it. I did everything you can do. I am a huge Metroid fan Super Metroid is the best still. And the 2D platform Metroid gameplay is superior to 3D platforming in first person. Only thing I would change about Other M is get rid of the first person missile shooting. Yea I've mastered it and I can flip the remote and hit something on bulleye with a pre-charged super missile. I still don't think that mechanic fits.
The linearity is more like Fusion than Metroid's 1, 2 or 3. Just like Fusion, the map only opens up after you have finished almost everything. This was done to serve the plot. Speaking of which. When I was at that hot lava area without the Varia suit, I didn't even remember that Samus still had the Varia suit until Adam told Samus to activate it, so I can understand why Samus may have not either. Its not like the heat was a major issue until that lava boss showed up. If you want to pretend Samus is a badass, she made it anyway. There you go. Don't even need a stinking Varia suit.
I do agree with you on the linearity comparisons with Fusion...
People keep bringing up how the third to first person missile thing was terrible or distracting or in the way. I never had a problem with it. In fact, that sort of thing was absolutely seamless in Metroid Prime 3 - which I enjoyed immensely. My only problem with the view changing in Other M is the 'behind the shoulder' view. It kinda fit in the beginning, but all it does it make me very dizzy further in. Specially that part where the team splits up (before you go into the different sectors) and you're forced to trudge around in that view. I don't get why you can't run... It took forever to get into areas. And no monsters attack in that view. I believe the only reason for it is to build suspense.
Edit - to fix some terrible half-awake grammatical issues.
