Is sniping over abundant these days?

Well, I play Battlefield 2142 on PC, and on there no, the sniper can be easily flushed out by the assault, and the assault gunned down by the support, so it's quite balanced.
I beg to differ when you say Battlefield is well balanced. Start off as a fresh recruit in Bad Company 2, I thought I was doing pretty well in assault until an experienced sniper joined the enemy team, he had something resembling the Barret from MW2, a spotter scope and 12x optics.

The map we were doing consisted of a dash across largely open ground towards a wrecked ship, the match was spent mostly hiding behind solid objects trying to avoid being one-shotted.

This wasn't fun and this wasn't fair either, we were getting slaughtered largely because we weren't high enough levels to have access to the big guns and special abilities.

Back to sniping though, in my opinion, a single guy who is actually sniping on a given team is alright (it adds an extra challange to the game if he does it properly), however, it is not cool (or even nessercary) for everyone in the entire game to run around whoring the sniper rifles because they're an easy one-hit kill.

Sniping? Overabundant? Don't be silly.

:p sorry, just had to. Anyways, don't know, from what I hear, MW2 just has a lot of people who use snipers as a sort of a one-hit-kill short-range weapon. Personally, I like playing a sniper in games cause I like stealth and everything that generally comes with playing one, finding good spots, repositioning etc.

But I only ever use it as a short-range weapon if I'm forced into close range (someone comes at me), and even then I tend to switch to a sidearm, though apparently, MW2 seems to have an over-effective sniper rifle, in other games it tends to take a bit of time to zoom down the scope and if you're not zooming in, it's just imprecise as hell to balance out the relative strength of a shot a sniper rifle has to other weapons (because frankly, IRL you could use the sniper quite fine as a short range weapon, but IRL an AK47 wouldn't need to hit you 5 times to kill you so it's all about balancing gameplay, not realism).

GOd damn, why is everyone complaining about snipers so much? I gotta say, my patiance regarding the topic is pretty much GONE.

If you're pissed off because you stuck your neck out and someone put an axe to it, it's your own damn fault. Next time, mind your cover. End of fucking story.
And maybe you should learn to calm down and not take it so seriously, if someone begins to notice a trend about something that is killing them then you'll see a lot of people who get annoyed by it.

Lot's of people get killed by sniper rifles unfairly, so they're irritating as hell to go up against.

People complain that I use the shotgun but if you stood there and failed to stop me from working my way across the map (with plenty of oppertunities for you to snipe me or otherwise stop me) and I get up to you and blast your balls off, it's your own damn fault.

See how this works?

It's just a part of the game, like a shotgun or a LMG, I don't see what the big deal is.

Exactly how I feel.

What's unfair about it? It's part of the game, just like grenade launchers, and every other "cheap" weapon. If you're good with it, people think it's now unfair, and want you to use something else. Get over it.

Bad Company 2 has 2 bolt actions that are ChestKill's but all the guns in that game suffer from bullet drop. and i get more kills with shotgun recon anyway (and C4!).
Fair play, I didn't really play BC2 as much as other battlefield Games, so I'll take your word for it. But yeah Bullet Drop is a big part of Battlefield Sniping does another good job of balancing :)

In fact I've always hated the idea of sniping. I hated them ever since CoD 4.

Heck even since Enemy in the Gates.
The film Enemy at the Gates? Really? That's quite high on my list of films to see
same here. love that movie.

ot: its mw2 thats killing it, and yes the quick scoping is stupid , i went over to a friends house and they were all lanned together on xbox and they claimed this one kid was GOD of the game, so i watched him and of course the ****** was intervention quick scoping.

i hope this game gets buried very soon, how many issues i have with that game is not even funny

Sniping is the normal hated class for we get called noobs or cheaters cause we use that class in most games. I actual have done sniper training not official but i can hit my mark. But what everyone has said above a true sniper is always on the move and is in HS and not QS. But the day in borderlands when i'm using a sniper rifle as a shotgun is a true day to lol at.

Especially in Hardcore BFBC2, they nearly ruin the damn thing.

Not because they kill you all that much, but because they slow everything right the fuck down.

Yeahhhhh, snipers as in, jumping around and quickscoping like a ************.

Those people aren't snipers, they are retards.

(Also, if you 'hardscope', i.e., use the sniper rifle the way it was inteded, prepare to get flamed. Fucking MW2.)
The reason people give you shit for "hardscoping" is because they can't easily tell where you are from the kill cam and therefore can't easily get revenge and "prove" they are better then you, no other reason.

I stopped playing it about a month ago and sold it on because of all its bullshit and i can honestly say i don't miss it in the slightest and its given me time to play better games, its about time people just stop bitching 'cos nothings going to change IW have even said as much themselves so just stop playing the damn thing and get on with your lives!!

In fact in real wars snipers have the highest kill amount of any infantryman.
Lol, it's true. When I play modern warfare (1) when playing my sniper class, even if I don't have the most kills, I have the highest kill/death ratio.

Hey, I just noticed that QS can be another reason to make a realistic FPS. One down, a million to go.

I rock with my sniper class... until I run out of ammo. Then I have to run around the map and try to pick up a gun without getting maimed. Once I get one though, I'm good to go since my sniper class closely resembles my assault class in terms of perks (both have deep impact and deeper penetration).

Agreed. This happens in all games and not just the COD games. Snipers are cowards IMHO. Hiding and such. Come out and play like a REAL man!

I don't hate the players for that shit. I blame developers for not making the weapon less overbalanced. I think Halo is another game really bad for this. And Team Fortress 2 is a great example of balanced snipers.
From what you said I think snipers are more abundant in MW2, but it comes down to the designers to make sure their sniper rifles don't break the game.

Sniping in MW2 is a problem a lot of time, especially because of quickscoping which really gets on my nerves. On Bad Company 2 I do not think that the snipers are as much of a problem because they tend to miss more. I also have been playing the Medal of Honor Beta and snipers seem to be a problem again because from what I have seen the sniper rifle only takes like one shot to kill you no matter where the bullet hits.

I've only just began to notice that 7 out of 10 players of MW2 are snipers. (I can't speak for any other FPS games since I don't own/play any others online, I acknowledge that this may only be the case in MW2, so don't flame at me for my ignorance)Now back in the days of COD4 or before, sniping was an art practised by few, perfected by even less; no less than a profession. Nowadays every Joe Bloggs and his mother uses an Intervention all the time in order to look 'cool' or 'pro'
But this is, to me, quite detrimental to the gameplay as I can't walk two feet without getting claymored or sniped by 'xXUbaQu1ckSc0peMa5taXx' and it really tips the balance for me.
Is it the same on your system? In your game?
What are your opinions?
Modern Warfare 2 did not have an Open Beta testing stage... THAT is why it blows chunks.

No balance, just a load of bullshit new stuff that breaks the gameplay. Also MW2 is the new Halo; i.e. asshole-magnet.
