Is the modeling industry representative of what men actually find attractive?

it's a bit sad, but this is actually the answer to life and everything.
Only true if you are retarded and incapable of rational thought.

Maybe when you grow into an adult you will realise that it isnt so simplistic.

No one seems to realize that guys are actually somewhat complex in general. Some do like skinny as a rail models (I haven't met many, but then you're not going to meet those guys at a pizza parlor in upstate NY), some like athletic women, others like older women, so on and so forth.

Me, I find a lot of body types attractive, and what's more I'll find someone more attractive on a sheer physical level if I'm attracted to their personality as well. That being said model types have rarely, if ever, attracted me. And those admittedly few I've talked to have repelled me with their personalities.

God no, these women look like lollipops, well actually, thinner then that, if they were to eat a lolly (stick and sweet) you could see it pass all the way through them...

...and this is why I stick to hentai...

So, yes, I do like my women thinner than what is probably healthy, and I found the bottom three pictures disgusting and the video at the top mediocre at best.

That's a myth, brother. The overwhelming majority of heterosexual men disagree with what homosexuals Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren think a woman should look like, and we disagree with each other quite a bit. Look at my avatar. Do you think she's hot? Does she have this mystical waist-to-hip ratio? How about Anna Nicole Smith when she was the most popular playmate ever, with her extremely wide hips and not much narrower waist? Is it Jenna Jameson? She's certainly stayed in shape but she also eats, and those nosecones are far too inflated to be a model.

Men do largely agree on some things. We generally prefer a bit of a bigger butt, most of us don't like women to weigh 300 lbs., we tend to prefer a woman who takes care of herself and likes to look good, mostly we're suckers for that girl-next-door look. But there is no common thread as to what all of us like, though there is a common thread as to what the overwhelming majority of us can't stand: bulimia and ribs.
Anna Nicole Smith was the most popular one? sorry she was in the media a lot but other issues without her have sold way more and that's how you can gauge how popular of a playmate she was. i'd say Marilyn Monroe, Jenny McCarthy, Bettie Page or Pam Anderson were and still are bigger and more popular.

as for the hip to waist ratio, yes it IS a very true thing that guys look for and there's a good reason for it. as for your avatar picture, i'd be able to tell if it wasn't so small and the answer from what i can say is yes. the saying "child bearing hips" doesn't come out of thin are and was made for reason.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waist-hip_ratio

also i don't think you understand the difference between ratio and measurements. a ratio is variable and a measurement is absolute. it's easy to have a 3:1 ratio and you can have various measurements that fit that but only one measurement will be 30 inches.

say what you want, there's a lot more proof on my side about certain things that attract men to women. as i said the waist to hip ratio is one and so is breast size and perkiness, there's good genetic reasons for why we look for these types of features in women and it all has to do with the chances of them producing offspring

Sadly, I think that porn better represents our taste in women than high fashion or Hollywood - yet women and young girls alike model themselves on Ralph Lauren and cinema.
Yep, thank you "The Media" for that crap.

Nope, I'm not going to type out a long diatribe about how the fashion industry warps women's perception of body image by promoting a figure that is only obtainable through bulemia, implants, surgery or all three, and I certainly won't say anything about how women can't seem to go anywhere without seeing a picture of some airbrushed, paper thin tart with fake tits telling her subconcious that you want to look like me, or how this entire industry is responsible for eating disorders, emotional train wrecks and suicides...

Nope, no opinion at all.

It's the only thing that all mens different tastes have in common, which is what I was shooting at.

The only reason I put it like that is because it amuses me more than explaining it. ;)

I don't like the models or the clothes they wear.

"America's Next Top Model" is just full of the fail I see. I mean I know I'm not the only one that thought "Oh hot girls!" and then be gravely disappointed.

it's a proven fact (seriously) that most women acctualy persue a goal of a size at least two sizes smaller than what the average man finds desirable.
I think I may have read that before. I'll see if I can find a link.

A friend once told me that the reason the fasion industry uses such scrawny women as models is because it's a lot easier to make clothing for skinny people and then scale it up to fit larger people afterwards than to start big and scale down. Because of this, they want women who are the minimum size that they plan to make the item of clothing for.

Personally, feel the healthy and natural are the bare minimum required to be worth looking at, and ideally I go for a more amazonian woman.

Those near-anorexic ones freak me out...

On the subject the exact same thing could be said about male modeling driving young men to look and act like effeminate douchebags... I blame women, it's all there fault!!!

Wikipedia is not a reference, kind sir. Use it in a term paper some time if you don't believe me. I could post something on Wikipedia just as easily as Noam Chomsky or Carl Sagan.

Now stop condescending and pontificating, you do not know everything (you have to look to your wikis for that:) )

Of course men like wider hips and a narrower waist. But a 3:1 ratio - that's like Mrs. Incredible's body! That doesn't exist! Although there may be some validity to what you're saying - I've heard the argument that cleavage attraction comes from before we walked upright and that the first "cleavage" was indeed butt cleavage - stating it as fact because you got the info off a website who's authority as a reference is a running joke on several TV shows is inaccurate.

Also: more grossness
