James Cameron recently said in an interview that halo fanboys need to stop trashing his latest movie Avatar. He says that they keep complaining about Avatar being too much like Halo and he that he copied the series.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Cameron has had the idea of Avatar since 1996.
'94 actually
The only inspiration from Halo might be the chopper-dropship things.
Oh & the drop ships he used in Aliens wouldn't count then!

I've been a Halo fan since first getting an XBOX.

There's no evidence of plaigarism from Halo to Avatar. And if you mention similarities of human technology in both series, bare in mind that this is Science Fiction... there's bound to be repeating themes in all the films, books and games.

Also, the aliens in Halo were super advanced with energy weapons and personal shields. Avatar's aliens had none of those things... not even a plasma sword.

So, yes. Halo fans that make up bullshit about other franchises stealing ideas from Bungie need to rip off their genitals and save the genepool of humanity from their idiot-prone DNA.

Wait, no, that won't be necessary. Why? Because there's no chance those whiny man-children will ever get laid.

Remember, it's just a game and a film. Real life is so much better.

Halo
-Aliens are suicidal and retarded
-Aliens are butt ugly
-They use spacefaring technology
-They are in space
-They are the antagonists

Avatar
-Aliens are lifeloving pussies
-Aliens are kind of hot
-They use hunter-gatherer technology
-They are on their planet
-They are the protagonists

I don't see any copyright there.

Avatar is similar to halo? I've read all of the halo novels and own all of the games (halo wars doesn't count) and I can't really pick up on many similarities.

Watch James Cameron's Aliens then realize that Bungie referenced their ships off of most the ship in that
Thank you, someone earlier said that he may have got the idea for the drop ships from Halo, had to put them straight!

Not to mention that the basic idea of Avatar is basically the same as Pocahantas or Dances With Wolves. It's an old story in a shiny new 3D wrapper. But I don't blame him for criticizing the fanboys; Halo is not the Alpha and Omega of entertainment.
Style, not story. Dances and Pocahantas look nothing like Avatar. Or Aliens, for that matter.
Switch out the Na'vi with Native American Aboriginals, switch out the British with futuristic private military corporation, be on another planet, keep the same basic plotline, and! You have Avatar.

But Halo fanboys also fail for that article.

Umm... what idiot thought Cameron copied Halo? I haven't heard about this at all: the two stories are nothing alike... I love Halo, but this is ridiculous. Avatar was an amazing movie, and I never made a single connection to Halo.

EDIT: Forgot about the ships. But that was the only thing. And only the little fighter thingies: that's it. But fact is, with how long Avatar's been in production, that's nothing more than a coincidence.

OT:

"Da humans is fighting aileeens. dats da same as halo, durr hurr"

To understand their decisions, you must first learn to think like a halo fan boy ;)

I had never even drawn that connection, to me the only immediate thing Halo and Avatar have in common is that they are both of the science fiction genre and both feauture alien races. Really though I feel kind of annoyed that I as a Halo fan myself must constantly be grouped together with the people who make empty complaints like this.
Really I wouldn't even have that much of a problem with movies taking aspects of Halo as inspriation especially not James Cameron because he did say it himself, a lot of the marine designs (I wouldn't say story aspects but certainly designs) featured in the Halo series can be traced back to some of Cameron's earlier work such as Aliens so really any connection is more like a coincidence.
Whatever, the point is I love Halo and I love Avatar but I don't see a common connection and even if I did I wouldn't really complain about it.
Same here.

What also makes me really annoyed is the attitude of some of the other members of this very site claiming that all halo fans have low IQ's and intelligence.
Really, it shows the flaming arrogance of many people that will really judge most of a group based on the actions of a minority.

I enjoy the Halo series, and although admitedly I haven't seen Avatar, I see no connection between the trailers, or what I have read about Avatar, and Halo.

More to the point, this thread has been going for three pages now, and not one person has defended the idea that Avatar is ripping off Halo. Since the Escapist is a gaming website, its stands to reason that if a significant amount of people were claiming the ripoff angle, it would have shown up several times in this thread by now.

It seems to me that Cameron is just making up a phony argument, to get publicity. If someone made a mobster flick, and then went around saying that people were complaining that it was a ripoff of the Godfather, when no one had made that connection, the intention would be obvious. The idea is to draw even more attention to your product, by making up phony controversies.

James Cameron Invented the vehicles that are used now in almost every game when HE directed the film Aliens which was the first to use all of these different gunships, mecha suits etc. This film then went on to inspire everything else like the gunsuits in Matrix, the heart scanner in MW2 and the Pelicans in Halo. He was the first to create any of it.

Uhh, the only similarity is in the aircraft. Very much the aircraft.

But he didn't copy the entire thing from Halo.
