Sounds like the guy can't take any fucking critism.
Hey, the man's achieved a lot in his life that was new and innovative. Before making Avatar he was busy designing and building some kind of bathysphere that can survive at high pressures underwater, and occasionally works with NASA on new projects. If I was accused of copying something after inventing all of that and directing and writing all those great films I'd be pretty pissed off too. Plus, he IS known to have a temper.

I don't like all this diatribe criticising all Halo fans as being idiots either. It's unhelpful. Whichever bunch of them thing Avatar's a ripoff of Halo are clearly terminally stupid, but there're a lot of people who just like Halo who aren't at that level of extreme thick.
Thats what I'm saying in the rest of my post. He created something amazing, he shouldn't care what a bunch of idiots think.

(I said Fanboys. Anytype of Fanboy is an idiot. A fan is not an idiot. I am a Halo fan, not a Halo Fanboy)

The helicopters and flying gunships look almost exactly similar, but its really just generic futuristic machinery. Its not ripping off Halo, the vehicles just look like Halo because they're both standard looking.

edit- after reading the article, apparently James Cameron invented the style of futuristic vehicle that is now standard. There is really no argument that Halo fan boys have to complain about James Cameron.
Well, he says he invented it, but pictures of that stuff only popped up recently, so obviously halo didnt copy him.

All I ever noticed is that the fighter jets look almost exactly like the hornets from Halo, but thats about it.

Though to be honest, obviously he wasnt using that design since 1996 as hes constantly had to change the CGI, actors, models etc.

Halo invented guns.
Bahahaha. In a thread populated by mostly useless drivel, this comment shines out as the funniest thing ever.

Now, dear people who are complaining that Halo's Hornet design isn't Cameron-inspired; meet the Hunter-Killer.

That is from the original Terminator movie. You know, when Schwarzenneger still couldn't speak English and kept his political aspirations in check. 1984. I'm betting that most Halo developers were still suckling on their mothers' tits in 1984.

Whatever, though; the VSTOL idea has been played with a lot in sci-fi. It's a generic design; I just want to point out that Cameron is the first to use it in a blockbuster.

He makes a good point in his response. Halo borrowed a LOT from "Aliens", Cameron's film from 1986. Here's an educational link for those naysayers.

This, I am a Halo fan yet I don't beat around the bush, I know there were referances to Aliens in Halo but hey it doesn't bother me so I often wonder why others are determined to say that it's lies.
Besides even the game's creators Bungie studios acknowledged that they were at least a little inspired by Aliens so really the people shouting accusations are really making complaints about as empty as the people who say that Bungie didn't copy from Aliens.

P.S Hi, big fan of your work. Honestly Apocalypse Lane is among my favourite video series on the Escapist at present.

Fair enough. I'm new to this whole internets thing, so I wasn't clear on the distinction between fan and fanboy. Now I know. :)

And my point is that somebody who's produced that much innovation during their life is bound to be a bit irritated when he's accused of copying things. He built and designed most of the ships and vehicles in Aliens. He's a fairly well known inventor, and his films usually bring something new to cinema. I'd be annoyed if someone accused me of copying ships that look almost exactly like my design from a previous film. Putting that much work into something only to have it criticised by idiots is always a pain in the arse.

Not to mention that the basic idea of Avatar is basically the same as Pocahantas or Dances With Wolves. It's an old story in a shiny new 3D wrapper. But I don't blame him for criticizing the fanboys; Halo is not the Alpha and Omega of entertainment.
You should watch MovieBob's review on Avatar, he mentions "Dances with Wolves" and I think you'd quite enjoy it due to the fact that noticing that Dances with Wolves has the same basic story as Avatar does not make you observant [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/1333-Avatar].

*AHEM anyways, James Cameron shouldn't have to justify himself to a bunch of idiotic Halo fanboys.
Already seen the video, thanks for the pretentiousness.

I personally think everyone needs to shut up about Avatar. "Oh noes, a popular movie, let's say bad things about it and claim it is racist and stuff!" "Yeah dude! That is like awesomist idea ever dude! Righteous!"

Bothersome.
Hating on shit people have never read/seen/played is the new thing. Twilight, Avatar and Modern Warfare 2 are examples of all cases where three supposedly 'hated' things are suspiciouly popular.

And yeah, where did this happen? I didn't make the connection myself so I'm wondering how a bunch of 10 year olds with the pitch turned down did.

Wait Im a Halo fan and this is the first Ive heard of comparasons to Avatar. Maybe some of the vehicles (the scorpian simliar to the hornet?)

I think James Cameron is blowing this out of proportion as is whoever is saying Avatar is ripping off Halo.

3 words: fanboys are dumbarses
Pretty much, halo fanboys really can't think for themselves and just sort of think that halo invented everything.

I was actually reading something from a halo fanboy who claimed Halo had INVENTED the FPS genre. i didn't know if i should laugh or just be disturbed.
