as long as I help my team in some way, give them something that they wouldn't have without me, I'm happy.
My problem is that there are better EVERYTHING on every server I ever inhabit. Including the one time I tried CTF on Double Cross. Even if I do play Medic, who according to this thread is the second coming of Christ, I'd still get backstabbed too often to be of any use other than a macabre 'There is a Spy behind you' warning to whoever I'm healing. Does that sound like something you'd want to be?

Team Fortress 2 is overrated as fuck. I've probably gotten $20 worth of enjoyment out of it, but I've gotten vastly more enjoyment from Minecraft in less time for the same amount of money.

So start thinking "Okay, try that next time!' instead?
I am a pessimistic bastard. And since I die a lot more often that the people who make 'How to play as...' videos, same thing still happens, except this time the thing I wish I could do is not die so often!!

-I seem to have a piece of paper taped to me saying 'Stab Me' or else I wouldn't be backstabbed worse than Gary 'Roach' Sanderson.

If you are constantly being stabbed by spies, you should learn by now, LOOK BEHIND YOU!
What, you want me to be constantly spinning around and shooting wildly, instead of aiming at a target I know is there?

-Same goes for headshots, but replace Roach with Jack Carver.

Dont play heavy if you dont want to be headshotted, they are the easiest to headshot. Dont play Sniper, because there are two levels of playing sniper- you suck, or you dominate. Most people suck, including me. there is no middle ground. Soldier also runs slowly, but the rocketjumping makes it hard to be headshotted. And, finaly, if a sniper hits you with a headshot while as scout, while you are jumping, more than once, hes almost certanly aimbotting.
I don't play Heavy or Sniper. If you'd read the rest, you'd know that I play Scout most often. And I STILL take more headshots than anyone else in existence.

Not any more. Besides, I've seen some videos of Minecraft and it's just not my kind of game.

Well, that kinda helps...BUT I HAVE NO FRIENDS WHO ARE EVER ON AT THE SAME TIME AS ME!!!!!!

I gave it 13 hours to 'get better'. It didn't. What a waste of money!
And theres your problem right there. You gave it only 13 hours. Trust me I didn't get good at TF2 till a while in but when I did it was really fun. Yes there are jerks on TF2 but what game doesn't? And generally the community has been great. As to your backstabbing problem either play Scout or Pyro as spies leave them alone or keep your back to the wall.
Well, here's the thing: I play as Scout more than all the other classes put together, and I STILL get backstabbed more than anyone else!!! So the problem isn't being a spy-proof class: it's that, like I said, I have a 'stab me' sign on my back!!!!!!
get that shield for the snipers back, then they will mostly leave you alone.
or die trying, as you stick a knife in em.

Razorback? Unfortunately, random drops never work in my favour and I don't intend to spend any more money on this game than I already have. Besides, when you play Sniper, you fall into one of two classes: you dominate the entire other team, or you epic fail. I, like most people, am in the second category, so I never bother playing Sniper.

TF2 is free now so i'm not sure how you spent 20 dollars on it... But, it just sounds like you hit a server where they're a little tired of F2P noobs and it got taken out on you. The games fun, really.

Honestly though, it has all kinds of way to learn how to play- tutortials, practice, offline v bot practice, a coaching mode...
-I bought it last year while it still cost money.
-Apparently, it was a 'noob-friendly' server, so I'd assume F2P falls in there as well.
-Some people only have fun when they're winning, myself included.
-The tutorial hardly says anything that'll help against humans.
-Practice mode only gives you Gravelpit and three King of the Hill maps.
-If you ask for coaching, it'll pull in someone from outside, and they'll either say 'no' or the server you're in will be full.
If you can only have fun while winning than TF2 isn't the game for you. That simple.
It's impossible to get better by watching videos, the longer you play, the better you get.

I bought it a couple years back, joined a game, commented a bit on how we were doing (Not half bad). THEN I was told "SHUT THE FUCK UP" or, "Lol this kid is a noob". Every server, same thing. I've gathered TF2 isn't really a game for talking or socializing, just really silent understanding and a common goal. Once you get into that one class your good at, the game gets so much better. I recently found my medicing skills are better then my others. Maybe because Medic is easy to do, but I never really made it as the others. Join a game, get on, and just play. So what if you suck, everyone does. Don't care if someone talks, you learn to blot it out. Most servers only kick for AFKing or being an overall dick. And since your a person who doesn't like losing, then just do your part the best you can, let your team shape up and take example of you. It's about being YOUR best, not expecting your team to do the work. Maybe the game just isn't for you, who knows. But you did buy it, so give it a go and play your hardest. Only when you give your best can you see if the game is truly for you.

Team Fortress isn't the easiest game to get into. I liked it for a while, the people got on my nerves however. I think I saw anime scat porn one server then I uninstalled, never to go back. I'd suggest doing the same if you can't really think of any redeeming qualities to the game.

whoever said that, is full of it. the stock sniper may need you to headshot frequently, but the bow and arrow or sydney sleeper both are great at "just hit them". as for the random drops, you only played for 13 hours, so it doesn't surprise me.

i had the razorback, bow and arrow, jarate, and sydney sleeper and much more within a week of regular play, and i am f2p ffs.

well, not really, but you healed someone, gave them a warning, and helped your team. every little step is one that could lead your team to victory. here's a tip. when you heal someone, never stop moving. keep a good idea of your surroundings, and shot all of your teammates. if they bleed, keep shooting. a lot of it depends on the map. 2fort is shit. look for custom map servers. they use maps like this:
or this:
or this:
and finally, this.
remember, 2fort is a bad thing. find a server playing these, and you will have fun.

but in the end, i have about 250 hours played, and the first 50 of it, I was like you. stick with it, follow my advice, learn to enjoy the little things, and it will get better.

Okay. Fine. I'll reinstall the damn game, and I'll try using 'start playing', and I'll fave any servers I find which are at least reasonably nice to me, and I'll try to stop minding that I'm terrible because I don't have enough time to spend just playing it, and I'll wear the PoP, and play Medic, and all that. I shouldn't have made this thread, though. I should have just asked for advice. That way, it wouldn't be a strain on my sanity.

So now that I've admitted over and over that I fail at life, please, please, please, please...

For reference, try getting into the DotA community, or any of its clones. No one will help you learn the ropes, teh AI is worthless and by the time you figure out how to play, the metagame and way to play has changed.

Roll with it and try to find a local server, with local people, they're usually nicer. Public games are just scum of the earth looking for n00bs to take out and make their k/d ratio higher. assholes.
Not completely true, most of the guys over at GR.org tend to be welcoming, so long as your not an asshole and don't mind their antics.

Around here it is still overrated. Of course, pretty much every Valve game is.

Valve's greatest attribute as a company is how well it treats its players. It treats its players damn well. As for games... well...

They made a good zombie shooter and a pretty good glorified expansion pack for it (L4D).
They made an overrated, but still pretty good, series of single player shooters (Half Life).
They made a very overrated online shooter (TF2).
They made one excellent series of games (Portal).

They are hailed as game making geniuses but, honestly, there are so many game companies which have made more games of more quality.

As for Minecraft not being your sort of game, its not anybody's sort of game until they play it for a couple of hours.

It really just sounds like a lot of whining to me. There are two different paths you can take in this situation. Play the game more and practice until you improve over time, (Which will happen, TF2 is no exception) or play a different game. If your not having fun with the game, (and you don't quite sound like you enjoying it) then don't play it at all.

Wasn't there an escapist server? Go play there and say you're from the escapist, I'm sure those guys will take you in and give you helpful advice. That one server that banned you? Forget them, it's not like they're the only server in the world. Find a community that you enjoy, find a class you enjoy that you're decent at, and play. The game doesn't keep track of wins and losses so if you lose? Big deal, hopefully next round you'll do better, either that or you can just hop to a different server and see how you do there. As for youtube videos? You'll looking at them wrong, study them. Understand the reason why those people are doing the things they're doing. Search up things like "how to play scout." and you should find videos that have added tutorials in them.

Either that or don't play. Your post does scream out "This game is horrid because people were mean and I don't have the necessary skill level to play it properly." Find something that better suits your tastes or take the time to understand what you're doing in the game. The game is not bad, and shouldn't be considered bad just because you ran into a couple of bad apples in game and don't know how to play it.

The game does have a bit of a learning curve to it, and the fact that it's so heavily team based can throw people off. It's not so much about personal skill and being able to carry as it is about what you can do to help benefit your team. Think about what the enemy team is doing and what you can do to counter it to benefit your team instead of what you can do to get more kills.

So, as the others have said, just hang in there. It gets better. I experienced the same thing when I first started, and I still get it even now because I'm one of the few females that play and I openly use my mic. That sort of crap just comes with the territory though, and I understand that. There are plenty of good servers out there. Just find them and be happy :3 Oh, and if you want to do a bit of research, I recommend two things. First, I recommend you get your bearings in the game while playing medic. It's very simple, a team can never have too many medics, and you'll get a chance to watch other classes in action and absorb their roles and basic strategies.

Second, I recommend visiting The TF2 Wiki [http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page] for any specific problems you have. They have a lot of information on all of the classes and good strategies for them, and detailed information about all of the weapons and equipment.

So just go out there and have fun :3 It's about the best online FPS out there...it's just got a very poor community.
This a hundred thousand times. Go play on a few dozen servers, you're bound to make a few friends if you talk to your team and try to have fun. I've met quite a few good friends from online games just by talking to my team, suggesting strategies and warning them about enemy players. It will most likely get way better.
Of course, there is the chance that you simply don't like the game, and in that case I guess there isn't much to do other than make SURE you don't like it, leave it for a few months, go back to it to try again, and then abandon it if you still don't have fun with it. But I highly doubt that will happen.
If you REALLY need help, send me a PM and I'll friend you on steam and try to help you out.
