Better to treat a person like a God to treat an imaginary person like one.
Really because i disagree with you a lot on there, treating someone of a faith based thing is not as worse why, because they cannot convince you to do anything. You are loving and treating the words and actions of a person as the most important facet of your life. As opposed to the commands of the real person who has control over you.

.... Trust me, i'd rather the faith.

I've heard his Son is even worse, and is far more aggressive and problematic.
Well, fortunately North Korea is a pathetic military force. If he really does rush an attack against basically anyone, he's rushing his own downfall. There's a reason Kim Jong Il never made good on his threats.
It's actually the 4th largest military on earth last I checked.
All they do is exercise their military.

The video of the people lined up into rows and told to cry (and if they don't cry.. likely dragged away and shot)... a lot of people are laughing at it, but to me it was pretty terrifying that that actually exists.

Oh yay one of our fellow human beings died.

Death is never something to celebrate.

Hopefully his son will be a better leader than him, then again they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Let's be real. A modern day Hitler is dead and gone. This has sparked some real hope that maybe.. just maybe.. we'll get some change for the better for those oppressed people.

That is something to celebrate.

Even thew he's dead, his son has been trained to be just like him. But I'm happy that he's dead!

You do realize that they have nuclear capabilities right? They prolly can't hit too many people, but they can hit china, and there's no way china's not gonna take a few pot shots at the US if they're going down anyway. And there's no way that the US won't take a few pot shots at somebody/anybody/everybody if we're going down anyway. An aggressive North Korea is not good for anybody.

True, maybe one of those country's missile defense system would stop the chain reaction, but I'm not quite ready for that big of a risk to global survival.
Why would North Korea attack China? China is the only reason the US hasn't already invaded North Korea. Also, China isn't nearly as willing to attack the US as a lot of people think. A TON of their income is from the US buying their factories' products and outsourced labour.

North Korea doesn't release any true information about themselves. They have no chance whatsoever in a war against anyone; the only reason the US didn't take them out a long time ago is the fact that they're allied with China. The only threat they pose is nuking South Korea---which would be disastrous, but also spell their own doom, so I doubt they'll do it.

POOCHIE'S DEAD! HOO HOO HAH HAH!
yaaaaaaaaaay!

Ha ha ha, the dignity of human death. Yeah, fuck him, he was a monster who turned the North Korean people into monsters. The entire population of the country behave like the victims of lifelong parental abuse.

Unfortunately, I predict that Kim Jong-il's cult of personality will transfer to Kim Jong-un without a hitch, and things will proceed exactly as they were before, because North Korea is a closed system designed to make people into slaves. They have no idea that starving to death isn't a totally normal way things work on this planet.

What I fear is this is all a lie, and they're going to say "Kim Jong Il came back to life!" in order to further boost his image.

The biggest thing I'm surprised about is how few people on the Escapist are posting. A sports blog I visit has a thread bigger than these, and that place has a strict no-politics rule. Slow night I guess? Or maybe people are going crazy in R&P...

Anyways this is pretty surprising, I wasn't aware of many health problems too out of the ordinary. It'll be interesting to see what happens now, since NK isn't really that big of a deal
I suspect it's something to do with this news breaking overnight.
I think it might also be because he's just a dictator, who while a crazy loon who ran an oppressive regime, never really hurt the US as compared to a guy like Osama. I mean this is kind of like the news about Gaddafi, and that barely registered either

North Korea does have the 4th largest military in the world. With plenty of weapons production, chemical weapons and air defense networks.
While the equipment is outdated, their army is still is a significant threat.
And that's besides the nuclear capabilities.

Huh? Wha?

Oh, some idiot died? Not my problem.

BACK TO POKEMON!

Yeah... I don't care.
It begs the question: why bother posting if you're going to be so flippant about it? Is it supposed to be "edgy" or "rebellious" or something?
Maybe he/she's really really into pokemon.

They're really good games, you know.

One can hope this brings about positive changes in the country but there will probably be a fight for the power he held.

YES! One more down! Waitin' on you, Castro. Hurry up and die so I can get my cigars!

Anyway... I'm actually surprised he didn't try to go out with a bang. I figured he'd at least try to nuke America before he kicked the bucket. It should be interesting to see what happens in the country now. A lot of his citizens were pretty fanatic about the guy. Expect some anarchy. It might not be there yet, but it'll be there soon.

I know it's pretty naive but I hope the country becomes more stable and opens up a bit now he's gone.

I dunno, since when has someones death managed to shut up the Internet?

See?
That image is actually pretty old though I anticipate 'Kim Jong Dead' to be added to that soon.
