Well, first off, I'll point out that most of the games that have come out on both the PS3 and the XBox have played better on the XBox, as far as performance goes. Perhaps Mirror's Edge continues in that tradition?

It does seem odd that they wouldn't pick an exclusive, but then, I've often found that awards shows tend to pick games that they like and make sure they get awards, even if the awards dont' really make sense. Remember when Bioshock won best music? It didn't have the best music, but they wanted to make sure it won lots of awards. I guess they felt like plugging Mirror's Edge.

And now, to step off-topic for a moment...

Indigo, I'm finally going to say it. And this goes for Jumplion too.

I own a PS3, and every time one of you goes on your full fanboy mode, you make me a little more ashamed that I bought it, and a little more ashamed to admit that I'm a member of the Escapist community. Any post you make about the PS3 or the XBox comes off as arrogant, unwilling to see both sides of the argument, and is poison to intelligent discussion. For a long time I wondered if you were a Microsoft rep in disguise, since your posts really do seem to drive people in that direction, but I've decided that you simply aren't aware of how you actually sound.

I've never wanted one on this site before, because I'd found a place where intelligent discussion was prized over salesmanship and teenage angst, but there are times where your posts made me wish we had an ignore button, which is a shame, because when you're not talking about the PS3, you can make good (and sometimes funny) points. But your posting style on this one issue colours my ability to read anything else you've written with an open mind, and that really bothers me.

I would have expected Fable2 or GOW2 to win purely because they are designed solely for the X360 and you would expect them to razzle and dazzle on that platform above a multi-platform game. That's all - and hats off to Mirror's Edge - it must be pretty special indeed.

Umm, but do you know, that GOW2 wasn't shown in GamesCon? That's because Germany has really strict laws in game reviewing. If they think, that it involves sex, or too much violence - the game wouldn't be released. The same thing happened to GOW1.

Meeeh...sorry,no, only half correct. The USK doesnt care about sex at all. Naked women in God of War or Conan were never an issue, nobody cared about the hot coffee in GTA:SA and that scene in Mass Effect did not even raise an eyebrow.Stuff like that might raise discussions in the US, but in germany they dont see "sex" in games as a dangerous thread to kids. They DO care about swastika symbols (WWII Games) and too much unnecessary brutality (chainsaw in GoW and dismembermend in Fallout3 for example)

Whether you see Mirror's edge winning best upcoming game on the 360 as an insult would depend on one factor. Namely, do you believe that they would have voted for the same game on the PS3 (or to put it another way, does Little Big Planet look better than Mirror's edge).

Personally I prefer the look of Mirror's edge to LBP, so I don't see the slight. If I preferred the look of LBP and I was a 360 owner though, I would be miffed.

I'm sorry, but "best game for platform X" just means that that is the best game to get...on that platform.
Exclusivity is irrelevant and only panders to fanboys.

Actually, exclusivity is important - its a big factor in deciding what console you get. It also defines how well a game will run on the console.

No, the panel of 9 judges is SMART, they pander to the people that want the best games possible on their console, not the elitists.

Yes, they are just listing the best game for each console, but the point is that Mirror's Edge is a game for both consoles, meaning that it would be a choice for "Best Game on the System" for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, so the fact that the exclusive game Little Big Planet was chosen instead of Mirror's Edge on Playstation 3 is basically stating "The best game you can get on Playstation 3 is better than the best game you can get on Xbox 360".

Kudos to Mirror for winning the best 360 game, but you'd think they would make a separate "Best Multiplatform Game" section wouldn't they?

No, because, and this might be a bit hard to understand, its a sequel. Mirrors Edge and LittleBigPlanet are new.

Ah right. I see. It's so simple now; if a game is a sequel it's super lame and can't possibly be innovative. But if it's not a sequel, then it's super cool and original. So I guess Haze was a whole new world then?

By the way, I didn't say Fable 2 was going to be original, I said it was going to be different. They're adding proper influence into the game, brilliant AI, plenty of depth etc. etc. But of course it's a sequel.

Also, last time I checked, they were voting on best game. Not most original game. Too many people have decided that everything has to be completely new different to be worth anything.

And stop feeling the need to insult anyone who disagrees with you.

@tiredinnuendo: Pfft, I'm not nearly as much of a "PS3-fanboy" as Indigo is, I guarantee you that. I may sound like a fanboy, but I'm really not trying to and if I do come off as one I'm sorry, but I like to consider myself far from a PS3 fanboy (and not just because I have a Wii and a Nintendo friend whom I "debate" with alot, infact I talk with him so much that when you see my comments you can pretty much assume that it's two opinions going on, me and my friend's. Wether we are agreeing or not is debatable though...).

Trust me, if I could I would get a 360 but there are some things holding me back, I have my reasons for not getting a 360. I see flaws in all consoles/companies (maybe not so much with Sony, as I am quite satisfied with it. I guess you have to be cynical with all the consoles to really hate them).

If I come off as a fanboy, I'm sorry (though I admit, I have been acting strangely this past week. Maybe it's because schools in now) but I'd like to think of myself as a fair and reasonable guy.

Obviously not, as LittleBigPlanet was picked over Mirrors Edge.

I was trying to defuse this. Honestly I don't get what people see in Little Big Planet, I won't be picking up a copy for my PS3.
