Wel while DiCaprio is a great actor (sometimes) he really isn't suited to the role.

Depp would be perfec if he could go back to how he used to act earlier in his career. As long as he didn't then go on to do The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, that would just be too weird and potentially sad.

It has already been confirmed that the penguin will NOT be in the new batman movie.

OT: Johnny Depp would be better as the Riddler than Leo. Leo is great but idk if that is the role for him...

I don't even want The Riddler in the movie. I never liked him. Put Two-Face back in the picture, he was metals. Or Penguin. Or Mr. Freeze. A good femme fatale character would be Poison Ivy.
The original three film plan (spoiled after Batman Begins when a journo got Bale drunk) was that the second and third films would both feature the Joker and Two Face.

The first of them would focus on the Joker, with the creation of Two Face (turned out to be true).

The second would have a minor role for the Joker and a lead villain role for Two Face.

If this did pan out, I could see the Riddler replacing the Joker's minor role. They're both thinking man's villains (although very different in style)
Hmm, the third in a series of Batman films featuring both The Riddler and Two-Face as villains? Well that sounds like a pretty good...

I read an analysis on Riddler once that basically said he was a closet case homosexual with an obsession with Batman, that he does all the things he does because he's in love with the Bat and wants him to return that, but being a psychopath he is unable to deal with the rejection of the Bat and thereby seeks to torture him with riddle after riddle.
I don't have the language that the analysis was written in so I am most likely not doing it justice but in that light, I could totally see Leo pulling this off.

That IS truly terrifying, but I would expect Nolan to try something a little different :p

How the hell is he going to play the riddler? That makes no sense, Decaprio can only play one character and thats obvious. The groomed but retrosexual guy with a troubled past. (Titanic, Shutter Island, Inception) Johny Depp is a much better choice.

It seems like every "analysis" of Batman always ends up concluding "Oh yeah, (X) is totally gay for Batman". And that kinda completely ignores The Riddler's extreme OCD as motivation.

Ol' Leo D is one of the most versatile actors out there, right alongside Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger. He's just in that same "group", you know? He'd be great in just about any role they chose to put him in.
Also, I think they could really do something with the Riddler as a character.

See, the Riddler has always been a more cerebral, even cultured, villain. This is in contrast with the Joker's anarchist, chronically un-serious attitude towards murder and chaos.

I think a gritty re-imagining of the Riddler could be something along the lines of a Hannibal Lecter-type serial killer. The guy is preoccupied with puzzles, intellectual pursuits... and kills people in his spare time, leaving cryptic, extremely gruesome clues, but clues which are (in a break from the cartoon Riddler) ultimately useless for stopping his next crime.

I've put a little thought into this, as you can probably tell.

Please do not let anyone mentioned in this post be associated with this film, (barring Leo - but he's not who I'd cast as the riddler at all).

Seriously, if they do that I wouldn't watch the movie. Having Megan Fox act is suicide.

UPDATE: Just found this while searching for a Riddler Picture...has Jhonny Depp been confirmed for Riddler?

Just read this

?Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny?s a pro. He?ll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman??

It also seems the penguin has been confirmed...although this could be another rumour as well.

Here is the link http://joyhog.com/2008/07/31/johnny-depp-to-play-the-riddler-question-mark/
Nolan has said that he won't be using the Penguin, and you do realize that the article you posted is from 2 years ago?

If Riddler is done as a tongue n cheek villain, I say Stephen Colbert. As a more serious, narcissistic, villain with a "Single White Female" thing for Bruce Wayne than I'd pick either Guy Pierce or James Purefoy.

Pretty much this as well. Nothing against Leo, I'm just not sure if he would be right for the movie? Just wondering but who would you want to be the Riddler for the next movie?

My personal favorite suggestion so far is David Tennant.

He could do a very solid job of it, and can be just nutty enough without going crazy (per. The Doctor [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who]) or batshit nuts (per. Barty Crouch Jr. [http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0213116/])

Dude's a Shakespearean stage actor, on top of the film and TV roles he's done. He could totally kill it.

But I know it's not going to happen.

Honestly, Joseph Gordon-levitt would be a great choice too, despite looking a little short for the part.

I was going to say something, but then Matt did it. Phillip Seymour Hoffman might be tolerable, though, but why would they put The Penguin in the third movie?

Jim Carrey should be the Riddler, he is one of the best actors of all-time (very few could have a fight with themselves and make it seem believable), and did a good job as the Riddler before.
He has gotten older since then. I don't think Jim could pull it off now.
He hasn't exactly gone grey yet. I think he could still pull it off. At the very least, they could have put him up for consideration. If there was anything good about Batman Forever, it was certainly Carrey's performance as the Riddler. Considering he has only matured as an actor since then, he would be a perfect fit for a more grim Batman movie.

JGL may not be a physically imposing force, but the Riddler has never really relied on fighting Batman in fisticuffs. The fact he's a lil more unseemly helps his ability to blend in, prolly as an intern at WayneTech?

I would complain about those people (other than Kate Beckinsale, who is #1 on my hot list), but I was one of those people who complained about some dude known for playing the lead in teen romance films was cast as the Joker. Christopher Nolan and his team work miracles with their actors. They get the absolute best of the actors and actresses they bring in.

I would LOVE to be completely shocked by a guy like Eddie Murphy being cast in and then completely owning a role in the next movie in the Nolan Batman series. Who doesn't love seeing a performer transcend people's preconceptions of their abilities?

I could not disagree more with your assessment of JC as the riddler.

I just think he's not tall enough - being slight in build is ideal.
