Again with the hate for the ending. Come on people, it wasn't bad! Sure, it left some questions unanswered, but how many other games/books/movies do that all the time? It doesn't mean that they are bad. The only reason there is so much hate for this ending is because no matter what ending Bioware would've put in there, it could have never satisfied the ridiculously high expectation of all the fanboys out there. People probably spent hours visualizing the "perfect" ending in their heads, and are now pissed off because it didn't match up with their fantasy. Maybe it wasn't what most people were expecting, but that doesn't make it bad.

okay guys, stop with this non-sense. This is not only fundamental game design, but fundamental narrative structure. You do not, I repeat, do NOT, end with a deus ex machina. This is highschool level stuff here in Canada. A deus ex machina is 99% of the time the work of a bad writer. It takes a master writer, of which casey clearly is not, to successfully use a deus ex machina, and it has to be used for a very specific reason. the whole story has to prepare for it through allusions and themes. If it does not, it is a failure of a story.

it is literally an objectively bad story by the inclusion of this classic writers trap.

It'll be a long time before we find out what exactly happened during development for them to end up with that ending. But we'll find out eventually. Sure, every game has hidden files with stuff they ended up cutting, but this is too big of a deal for someone high up in the company not to talk about it in the future.

But they won't say anything right now, since they're still trying to figure out how to approach this mess, and I'm not in any hurry to find out. I'm over the ending. The fun I had with the game as a whole outweighs the crap of the last 5 minutes.

Just more proof that the game was rushed.

Like KoTOR2, a game of this scope SHOULD NOT have been given only 2 years to be made (1 year for KoTOR2).
exactly. hell at least obsidian admitted to it being rushed like crazy AND put all the files on teh disc so it could be pieced together at later times by modders and such, bioware still has the gall to pull the artistic card and treat us like dumb children....fucking own up to your mistake dammit.

Right; so that's the ending that Bioware promised us. It's in there, they were planning on doing it; but they didn't do it. Why exactly didn't they pull through and decided to scrap what we've all been expecting / waiting for / hoping for.

EA is RETARDED when it comes to business (at least game business).
Please don't use "retarded" as a pejorative, especially in regards to EA - it insults the mentally disabled everywhere.

So? They're not gonna fix it.
Don't get your hopes up.
I'm doubtful the ending DLC is going to live up to expectations.
How can something live up to expectations that don't exist?

News Flash--the HMS Mass Effect Franchise has crashed into the notoriously huge iceberg "Cut Corners" alongside her sister ship, the HMS Loyal Fanbase. Both sank with all hands except for Captains Mac Walters and Casey Hudson, who escaped on lifeboats named Artistic Integrity and Lots of Money, respectively.

"At least the lifeboats are safe," Hudson is reported to have said.
This one laughed and laughed and laughed.

Captcha - be nice
I am! Bioware's the one being the meanyface. *humph*

Easiest way to explain this situation is EA's stock price. Just look at especially that 3 month trend. They're trying to salvage a sinking ship by releasing incomplete games.
That seems... counterintuitive.

Wouldn't releasing incomplete games reduce their stock price, what with the bad press and so forth?

OT: I repeat what has been said before - was it really all that difficult for Bioware? They already had many of the files they needed in the game!

Captcha - red tape
Oh, well that explains it.

It is just me or is Captcha becoming sentient?

The whole thing is this is blamed on time constraints, but ME2 was released 2011, they could have kept working on ME3 till 2013, most games have at least a two year cycle, Noone would have cared if the game was still being worked on because we would know it was gonna be good. I dont know why they rushed this game so bad, maybe they were worried about the mayans calendar XD
Mass Effect 2 was released January 26th, 2010.

Aw... that's just depressing.

I'm hoping we move away from the publisher model of game finance soon. If ME3 was supported by donators, would it have an ending everyone could have enjoyed?

Retarded [http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/retarded] (adj)
-slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress

Because I'm obviously targeting the mentally disabled here. No wait, no I'm not. I think EA is a tad on the slow side, like I said.

Too bad the new model would severely cripple new IP's or new Developers out there that don't have the big gaming names backing them.

Indie developers now don't seem to have too many problems.

Did... did bioware just pull a lucasarts? cutting out story in time for the release date? really? really?

great, now instead of TSL RP taking 8 years we get ME3 RP. Fan-fracking-tastic.
Except that ME3 Restoration Project will probably get you banned for tampering with ini files or something.

I was not aware of this, and I'm now very mad. I just dont get it, they literally had it perfect on what kind of ending I would've been happy with (Choosing to deploy your assests etc) and they just chucked it out the window for seemingly no reason?
There's only one thing left to do. Grab your pitchforks and torches gentlemen.

We're going on a Hudson Witch Hunt.

You know why Star Wars was as popular as it was?

George Lucas paced himself; he didn't rush the production to meet deadlines. He had to push back the theater release date by nearly a year so he could finish the movie the way he wanted it.

I blame EA for putting Bioware on a timetable.

Probably 'too video gamey'. You know like the conceptualized fight with a reaperized TIM.

I'm waiting for the day when Bioware or a game company like them pull a WWE* and declare that they no longer create videogames, but are instead 'purveyors of interactive electronic entertainment' or some such.

Since I'm starting to get the impression that people like Casey Hudson kinda wish they were making movies rather than games.

* for the record, despite apparent evidence to the contrary, the WWE isn't a wrestling company, but (I can't rememebr the exact verbiage but it's something like) 'global entertainment company' who employ 'superstars' and 'divas' (not wrestlers) and provide 'exciting entertainment' and/or 'action soap opera'. Seriously. There are actually company guidelines that forbid WWE employees from using the word 'wrestling' to describe the product.
