Silly Americans. Here in Canada if we get in an argument about fries we politely ask the other person to stop being a dumbass. If they don't listen we stuff a beaver in their shirt.

I freakin' cracked up when reading this for some reason.

OT: Well.

This isn't helping the fact The Escapist is on a forum-wide 2nd Amendment argument.

Clearly a legitimate case of self defense.

In fact, he should have shot him six more times with hollow-point rounds. After all, the attacker was armed with a hamburger and within 21 feet. No warning shot, no aiming to wound, just empty the magazine into his center-of-mass.

It's the responsible thing to do.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Damnit.
Technically, you're actually not far off. You want to use hollow-points to reduce the risk of over-penetration. Warning shots are stupid. Pulling the gun out and aiming it at them is plenty warning. And aiming to wound is Hollywood bullshit. First off, any gunshot wound is potentially fatal without immediate medical attention. Second, aiming a handgun is not trivial. It is advised to aim at the center of mass to reduce the likelihood of missing.

Of course, this all assumes you are facing a legitimate threat. I don't know all of the details of this story, but it doesn't sound like there was one.

Lol, damn some people are crazy. Like, nuts. Attacking someone at least partially because of fries, then SHOOTING them?

As for the anti-gun rhetoric here, the not-as-crazy guy could easily have been stabbed or pushed and hit his head on the concrete or something. It was clearly a "heat of the moment" thing because some people just can't be trusted with greasy fried potatoes.

Not much different from the kid that beat his dad's face in with a hammer over a video game, or numerous cases of hitting someone with a vehicle over something totally not worth it.

I hope the nutter gets arrested/charged for his craziness.

My first thought on reading this is that it was an arguement over drugs or something else that is illegal. In a lot of cases people making deals for illegal items will call it something else in the course of conversation about it, just in case there is an audio bug. What it is, could be entirely random. "French Fries" could be anything from drugs (most likely) to guns (less likely) to kiddie porn photos... pretty much anything transportable
and illegal that might be sold out of a car.

All the racism in responses to that article aside (if you click the link) there are some good points made about the time of the incident (before French Fries are generally sold) not to mention the quality of the vehicle. Seems like a drug deal or something gone bad, with an officer literally reporting what he heard the conversation was about since they both kept using the code words while they were argueing.

It's also possible that one or both of the guys was very unstable, drunk, or on drugs. Very stupid things can happen, but it seems a lot less likely.

That sucks for that guy, especially since people are going to be giggling at his funeral... Seriously though, how do you have such a heated argument that one person wants to pull out a gun over french fries. It hurts my brain trying to back it up.

If you're refering to what I think you're referring to, that guy was being mugged, and that kid had no reason being out at midnight. They're called curfews.
I wasn't referring to any incident in particular. I was making fun of the shoot-first-think-when-you're-dead crowd.

For the record, I actually think the killing of that mugger was justified. But there's another whole thread for that. 34 pages and counting.

I know. I was joking.

Wait a sec... what did you... what the hell do you mean "no legitimate threat"?! That lowlife was trying to take his french fries! That man had a god-given right to defend his property to the death! The second amendment demands blood!

That's why I live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. I get to pretend everyone south of me doesn't exist.
Can you see Russia from your house? And do all Alaskans have that silly accent?

As long as we're all in agreement that "hoagie" is not a reasonable thing to call a sandwich or sub.
Sarah Palin has that accent because she's not actually Alaskan. She's from Idaho. Just goes to show that the lower 48 is the root of all problems. To be fair, Tina Fey said that "see russia from your house" quip, not Palin.

P.S. of course it was philedelphia.

Call me evil, but I wish this had happened in California, because then the Highway Patrol would have been sent after him.

You know; CHiPs...

Sigh...

My home city has enough issues without really stupid and tragic things like this...

Still, try the cheesesteaks if you're in the area; it's like heaven in a foodstuff.

That is amazing. Way to go guys. I can't think of anything more frivolous to fight over. Good job. You have bested me.

That's just... there are no words for how stupid this is. Of all the things to shoot someone over, this was because of an argument about french fries!?
It would make more sense if the argument was over freedom fries.

Bernzz said:
Just...wow.

You'd think at one point in said argument, at least one of the men would have said "Dude, why're we doing this? Like...we're arguing over french fries. I mean...why? Whatever, it's stupid. Have the fries, man. Not worth arguing over."

BEST. FRIENDSHIP. EVER.
I think they had a bet to see who could die of a heart attack first.

You know, this isn't convincing me that the 2nd amendment is a good thing...

Sure it's a very small minority but when people are getting shot over an argument about fries, well...
At the point someone is willing to shoot someone else it really doesn't matter the weapon of choice. He would have picked something up, stabbed him with a pocket knife, etc.
