hoping ME:2 will be amazing, but it has a lot to live up to, and is getting extremely hyped; this has set previous games up for a fall. we can't know until it's released whether it'll be the game of our generation, but we can hope!

I personally loved ME1. It had a good story and gameplay with the choices of dialogs and which classes you play as. Even though the game was "broken" in some ways it is one of the best games I have played. I have played ME1 like 5 times now because of the different choices and I think the replay value is great!

Btw ME2 is gonna own everything on the market at the same time as it will be released.
All that means.... Collectors Edition!

It comes out roughly a week before my birthday, oddly enough.

Give or take... anyway, I think it will be near-perfect, judging from the gameplay and story reveals I have seen thus far.

Yay, Bioware!

Wow, I remember before Killzone 2 came out I thought tht people had reached the limit of what was possible in hyping up games before they're released, but no apparently that's wasn't the case.

Why do you think that? Bioware have shown theselves to be incapable of making a good RPG since KOTOR and attaching shooter-lite mechanics to it doesn't help much.

Like it or not, this game is overhyped.

All games are, mind you, but "The game of our generation"?

Of our generation? Nah; this coming from a person that played it over 10 times.
GotY 2010? If they did deliver what they promised I think it will be a top contender.
You played Mass Effect 2 10 times, but you want to know if they delivered what they promised?
Ok Buddy.
Heh whoops, good point. I meant ME (the orginal) 10times and I am sure you got that but thank you for pointing it out.

Ugh. Enemies not respawning is just such a big flaw. It means that whenever you have to return to a previous area for a side quest that you will just be walking through a big empty area. I understand that enemies shouldn't respawn in areas such as the Circle Tower, but there's no reason why they can't respawn in the Bercelian Forest. Plus it puts a limit on the amount of loot you can get, and the amount of money as a result.
How is capping the amount of experience and loot you can get a flaw? If they added in respawning enemies there would be no limit on how powerful your group could become, until you could just walk up to the Archdemon and stamp on it's neck. Either that or they would have to put in a system where the enemy levels with you like in Oblivion, which would defeat the entire point of gaining experience and loot.

Okay, I'll admit I think they did have a 'leveling enemies' system in Dragon Age: Origins to a lesser extent, but due to the cap on loot and experience it wasn't as painfully obvious or as game-breaking as it would have been.

Yeh, I'm thinking of rebuying on PC, the whole game universe is one that I love immensly, but the gameplay and no respawning enemies hurt it alot.
Let me get this straight; you want a game with a jump button, dynamic combo based combat and respawning enemies?

I think a Bioware RPG is the wrong place to start.

I'm not sure Mass Effect 2 will really be a GREAT game, it will undoubtedly good but mass effect 1 lacked some atmosphere for me, I liked the setting and everything but it lacked something. Thats why games like Fallout (all of the fallouts) will always stick in my memory

As long as I can still punch dudes in the face with my gun, it's all good. Best. Tactic. Ever.

Charge, bash, assault rifle to the face.

IGN just named Mass Effect the best game on the Xbox 360. I wholeheartedly agree.
Mass Effect 2 is going to be better. If it really is... I can't fricking wait!

I honestly don't think it going to spark any kind of revolution in gaming, it'll be good, but I just don't see anything new here.

I hope they won't pull that ME1 crap of starting off with some action, and then throwing your ass on the Citadel for 5 hours with two piss-easy fights, and otherwise nothing but talking, after which you are set free in the world where the talking:action ratio is even more skewed, though this time in favor of action.

Otherwise I'm pretty excited. I've been playing ME1 again recently, and it's still pretty damn fun.

You cant really say that ME2 will be perfect or near perfect because there will be many others who disagree with you, for example, some people might think that GTA4 or MGS4 was near perfect or perfect, but you may think that they sucked.
As for the game of our generation, alot of your theory is based on hype, and its always important to take hype with a grain of salt (or a whole damn shaker sometimes!).
Besides an RPG will not be seen as the game that defines this generation of gamers. People who arent gamers will see something like MW2 as the game of this generation, because it has more mass appeal, whereas people who are gamers will have played a variety of games and may think that other titles are more deserving of the title Game of the generation

I think certain games do define generations, in that they have long lasting acclaim with gamers.

For example, Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 would be, in my opinion, defining games of the 64-bit generation, with A Link to the Past and Sonic the Hedgehog for the 16-bit gen.

And I don't think we have had that game yet in the current gen. Maybe COD4, maybe Bioshock... who knows. Time will tell what will stay special in gamers' hearts.
I didn't say that there weren't games that defined the generations, I just said that the day one game defines a generation, I would have a problem.

All I am saying is that if only one game defines the generation, it means it was a pretty lame generation.

For any generation, there are many "defining games." In the 4th generation (aka 16 bit) we had Mortal Combat, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong country. In the 5th generation, we had Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, and StarFox 64, not to mention so many others.

Ah, many an hour did I spend on Mortal Kombat as a little un...

Yeah, it would be pretty lame if there was only one game that defined the gen. So I guess a better question wouldn have been will it be a defining game, rather than thedefining game.

Maybe he just doesnt like Mass Effect? LIke I dont really like Mass Effect either, i loved the talking parts(im really into games that let you choose what you say and do), but i really couldn't get into the combat.
Im gonna give it another try though, as soon as I get a new 360 controller, it err, stopped working (Damn SF4 difficulty!)

I have to agree. I had no huge expectations when I received this game from Microsoft, but once I started playing I was hooked. An amazing universe filled with tons of quests, an intense storyline and plenty of customizable options.

Oh, and did I mention it has one of the most evil antagonists ever?

I've even started replaying the game to freshen up the storyline of the first one so that I'm prepared when EA sends me Mass Effect 2 in a few weeks.
ME too, and you know what I noticed?

In his own way, Saren genuinely thought he was doing the council races a favour, I think he was less evil than we originally thought, and
became corrupted by Sovereign's influence
to the point where all he could see was to surrender and give up hope.

Guilty as charged, I'm super hyped about this game.

Our opinions differ on Bioware, I absolutely love the first Mass Effect and Dragon Age is pretty great too, if a tad on the ugly side.

What, prey tell, do you consider a good RPG since KOTOR?

OT: I'm pissing myself with excitement - I've also got more incentive to keep the game going as long as possible, but finish just in time for Splinter Cell: Conviction to come out.

I don't know what's more laughable:

Your total disregard for the success of the first game or your apparent fortune-telling skills. Oh, wait, maybe it's your total confidence in yourself and your opinion, despite knowing no more (and likely less) about the game than the rest of us!

Yeah, maybe that's it!

I quickly looked at your profile and you've linked a Steam account and a PS3 account, but no 360 account and the Steam one is barely touched - have you even played the first game?

If you don't like it, fair enough - no need to trash it. I don't like Fallout 3, but I can see the appeal and why others like it and I don't come out with total bullshit statements.
