Pretty much everything besides nu metal. I'd probably say melodic (Deadlock)/technical (Brain Drill) death metal. Also heavy metal (Heaven Shall Burn) and some metalcore (Caliban). Not to crazy above glam or progressive either.

Been listening to Veil of Maya and Periphery lately. I like em.

I also like Protest the Hero, The Fall of Troy, Mastodon, Scale the Summit, Cynic, and other prog metal stuff.

I love me some Power Metal (Stratovarius, Edguy, Freedom Call), but Symphonic (Nightwish, Within Temptation) and Melodic Death (Amon Amarth, Ensiferum) Metal can be pretty cool as well. Not at all a fan of the more "gloomy" styles of metal, like Black or Doom.

A couple of samples:

I grew up on thrash and speed but I really like most of it as long as the singer doesn't get under my skin.

The silent kind.
Its strange you like Punk, which is mostly agressive, but not metal, which has been constantly fused with Punk, and is mostly agressive.

:p
I think its the lyrics partially, metal lyrics are often fantastical, magical, concerned with dragons ect. while Punks more concerned with reality, society and the rich being bastards. Just preference I guess.

Also the way there played as while Metal does seem to have a lot of variation all the variations are very loud and heavy, while in punk you have more radical changes like reggae and Ska mixed in.

Having said that I do like Black Sabbath so maybe some metal appeals to me. So go go you slightly worrying metal-heads.

Gothic Metal, like Sirenia, Epica & Nightwish.
My favorite band is the old Nightwish. I can't stand listening to them after they changed singer, they used to be so much better than they are now.

Progressive metal, melodic death metal, symphonic metal, power metal, folk metal, death/doom metal...

My favourite band is without a doubt Wolverine.

My "current favourite" (the band that I'm obsessed with at the moment) is the The Project Hate MCMXCIX. Great mix of growls and clean female vocals.

I like a bit of everything. I guess my favourite categories would be thrash; metallica and slayer and so on, but I also like some industrial eg rammstein, metalcore such as a7x or trivium, nu metal, and also iron maiden and slipknot. Not so keen on death metal or black metal but i'll listen to it. Basically i tend to like anything heavy sounding but without too much growled vocals. Screamed or clean singing is fine though.
Edit: Favourite songs are probably raidiant eclipse by a7x, pulse of the maggots by slipknot and enter sandman.

probably rap metal, stuff like rage against the machine, faith no more, anthrax/public enemy, stuff like that. I'm not that big a metal fan though
EDIT: although actually my favourite band is A7X, but as a whole i prefer rap metal
