Just in case nobody brought it up yet, there have already been at least two games that are released on multiple discs for the 360. Capacity is not the issue at all.
So you propose that the game is played over 5 discs? Imagine trying to speed through the game, you'd have to change disc every hour and a half of gameplay, I can't see that happening really....
Reminds me of the great days of the Amiga 500. Playing 'It Came From The Desert' and having to swap disks just for walking down the street. Somehow it didn't seem to matter back then; perhaps we've become spoiled?

Ok, here's my shrunken two cents on the 50 GB thing. It's because of uncompressed EVERYTHING. Kojima, the game designer(not programmer), said they shouldn't compress anything because that automatically makes things prettier. Too bad it also increases load times, and ,if you use a good compression algorithm, you can't even notice that it's been compressed. We had a debate about Resistance's size on another forum, and the makers did the same thing (maybe not totally uncompressed, idk), but when it came out, people complained about load times. Finally, I just have to say 10% code and textures, 80% CG crap cut scenes, which are SO 90's, and 10% filler. *Cough* Blue Dragon *Cough*

Just for the record anything that is compressed actually requires more processing power to process hence longer loading times generally. Also as far as I know you can skip cutscenes in the last two MGS games I don't think it will be any different if four if this was the case in the last two games.

MGS 4 comes on two blu-ray discs which is the equivelant of 7 HD DVD's. Put simply, Its not gonna happen.

If people really want MGS4, you might as well wait for the PS# to go down in price, or buy it as your Blu-ray player. Then buy the game. Not hard.

And for the 'MGS4 is too big to fit into Blu-ray' argument, I'd like to call bullshit. I may not know much 'bout video storage, but what I do know tells me that you would need to put a helluva lot stuff in the disk, to max it out.

Maybe the devs let Snake look at the 'magazines' you get to place as a distraction for the guards ;)

That is true. The fact that the Blue Ray is so slow and that developers have to put in more information so the laser wont have to travel so far removes any advantage of space.
I dont know where people are getting this idea that Blu-Ray's are slower than DVD's, its actually much faster. [http://www.maxconsole.net/content_img/dvdvsbr.gif.jpg]

Did you also know that file compression is responsible for making sizes a lot smaller, and that leaving it ALL uncompressed could very likely fill up the whole Blu-Ray?

So we'll still end up with a 10 hour game but at least Hideo can say "We fillled teh wohle Blu-Rey!"

Indigo, unskippable cut-scenes may help progress the story, but they really cut into the replay-value. Playing MGS4 for the first time may be fine (though if the cutscenes are as hideously long as I've been led to believe, it will still be something of an annoyance). Playing through the second or third time, however, I don't want to see the same ten-minute long cutscenes again. I already know the plot-twists, the dialogue, etc, I just want to get on with shanking that guard. A game primarily is about gameplay. If that gameplay is cut up with unskippable 'epic' cutscenes every five minutes, I will likely only play the game once.
Wait, When I played through, I could skip cutscenes second time around. The game just made you sit and watch for the first run.
See, I never skip MGS cutscenes. It's like skipping to your favourite bits of a movie (especially given how movie-like they actually are) and I can never do that. I don't play the games just for the cutscenes and plot, but dammit it's the selling point for me.

In other news, I am now examining every option available to me for getting a PS3. No it's not simply for this game, but it's my favourite line of games, and I'll be damned if I never play them again. Plus Motor Toon Grand Prix will be re-released soon, and that was the first PSX game I ever played.

I think I speak for the Escapist when I say that we have had enough of your blatant console insults. This is a place for intelligent conversations with a theme of videogames, not for flinging waste at your hated companies. If you want to talk about the 360 please make it constructive and less "fanboylike"

If you want to insult a pile of wire and plastic why can't you do that whithout insulting those that bought that pile of plastic and wire.
Actually, it seems to be only you who is feeling this. Previously I have been praised for my fair and balanced appraisal of all three consoles, and the combined Issues. It might just be you affecting me, making me get defensive.
It's not just him. Disliking the 360 is fine. Taking humorous potshots at it ever now and again is okay. For the last week though, most of your posts that I recall reading have had blatant Sony fanboy written in the liner notes, and this isn't the place for that type of thing.

I agree, it sounds like Indigo is more than a little smug that the ps3 actually has a title making it worth owning and that he gets a jolly out of xbox owners admitting that they are fans of MGS. Its fine to commute your views on why it won't be out on 360, its another thing to be a jerk about it. You're like a father who tells his 6 year old that Santa's a fake, God doesn't exist and you were the result of a faulty contraceptive... sorry, lost myself for a minute there, anyways, don't be a knob jockey.

It's difficult to tell.

Don't forget that this is all big business. For third party developers, while it makes sense to have something 'exclusive' for marketing purposes and increased demand through 'hype' they want to generate as much profit as possible. If you look at the 'big' titles they try to release on as many platforms as possible often with numerous skus.

As a demonstration look at the following Playstation 3 'exclusives' theat went multi-platform or did not come out on PS3 at all:

Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3 exclusive now a multi-platform release.

Assassins Creed - PS3 exclusive now a multi-platform release.

Devil May Cry 4 - Implied PS3 exclusive now a multi-platform release.

Virtue Fighter 5 - PS3 exclusive now a multi-platform release.

Beautiful Katamari - PS3 exclusive now an Xbox 360 only title.

Fatal Inertia - PS3 exclusive now a multi-platform release where the Xbox 360 version was released first.

This information was sourced from the following website: http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/07/sonys-lost-excl.html

Not to mention the infamous case Resident Evil 4 going to playstation 2.

Clearly these changes of heart by developers and pubishers are hugely influenced by the popularity and salse of hardware. Given the recent increased popularity of the PS3 it is entirely possible that Konami will only want to sell on PS3 although if they can make money elsewhere it is more than likely they will try.
