I KNEW THAT TWILIGHT SPARKLE WOULD BECOME AN ALICORN! I KNEW I KNEW IT I FUCKING KNEW IT! It's just a shame I didn't bet any money on it BUT I FUCKING KNEW IT! Now the only question is how will the fans handle it (looks at stream of angry comments)? Okay in that case second question is will the writers handle it well?

I was afraid of this. I was hoping it wouldn't happen, but it was kinda obvious from the get go. A big reason why I'm worried is because if they screw this up, they will be affecting the future of the show, as opposed to a single stand alone episode (assuming the change is permanent). Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I've got my reasons for being on the side of "Alicorn Twilight is a bad idea", but I suppose I should have some faith in the writers and hope they can pull it off. They did it was Canterlot Wedding, the last time Hasbro ignored it's decision to let the writers have all creative control, so I've got a little bit of hope.

A little bit.

But this still won't be enough to completely turn me off the show (unless it's really, really bad)

I guess I wasn't clear. I've seen the show, I just never saw the quality of the writing being as good as you guys say. It's perfectly serviceable, just not to my tastes.

I just enjoy the DRAMA that pops up whenever something like this happens that sends fandoms into a fury.
Fair enough. I'm not one of those bronies who feel they need to "convert" everyone else, because that's just stupid.

Also, yes, it is very funny when people get mad about this stuff.
You know Dangit, I have to say, its interesting to see how far you've come. I remember when you had the 5-sec film guys as your avatar, then you made the thread about you joining the heard, you posted in other pony threads, and now you have a pony avatar. You've come far.

Now, I'm taking an optimistic attitude toward this change same as you, and I have faith in M.A. Larson as a writer. Honestly I've wanted the show to go in a new direction instead of just mucking around in ponyville having wacky shenanegins wherein they all learn life lessons. There are a lot of neat places they could take the plot. But I have to ask, if you and I were friends like Twilight is with any of the mane 6, and I suddenly grew wings and became a powerful demigod, don't you think the dynamic of our friendship would change a bit? Then the whole being immortal thing and all that it means...

I'm probably thinking too much into it. Maybe now that she is a princess the show may take on a more adventure styled approach with more magic, villains, and other stuff. I'm looking forward to what comes.

In regards to the fandom and MLP:FiM I'll quote Winston Churchill.

"This is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning"

Fingers crossed for good things in the future.

Eh, Twilight's still going to be Twilight, the pony we all know and love. If there's anything I learned from Homestuck, receiving absolute power and getting promoted to Godhood changes absolutely squat about a character's personality. She already wields the kind of magical potency that puts her above everyone in terms of potential anyway. Is up-scaling the advantage really going to change anything?

Maybe I'd make a fuss over it if I didn't already think she was the best pony anyway, and is certainly more deserving of the status than Mi Amore Cadenza, a character already introduced in Season 2 and (all things considered) received rather well by the fanbase.

And to be honest, this card can be seen coming from the very beginning of the first season. Though I'll admit, they pulled it a sooner than I expected (I honestly thought it would be series finale stuff). Now I am forced to consider the slices of life to come with Twilight having the Wings of +104 Superiority. And my curiosity has me eager to see how that plays out.

Great, now I'm hyped for it. I hardly get hyped for anything.

An alicorn is a powerful being, pretty much an immortal demigod. It is a pony with wings and a unicorn horn. All alicorns are princesses in MLP:FiM. People are afraid that such a drastic change will wreck the 6 main characters friendships and a bunch of other stuff that is pretty trivial.

In the show, alicorns are pretty much demigod(ess)s. Which means, the main character turning into one has a high chance of making her into a Mary Sue.

Also, it would change the whole relationship between her and the other five main characters, in addition to changing the whole dynamic of the show. Also, it is obvious corporate meddling on Hasbro's part, which never fails to raise the ire of the fans.

Now, those are all hypothetical results. There is chance they could pull it off and make it good, in which case I'm totally fine with it. But those chances are slim, considering it's still a show for kids.

I'll just wait and see.

1) We're taking a character who's established to be a socially awkward grad student and who's previous narrative focus was learning about social interaction, and now we're making her a god.

2) At a glance it's the kind of thing that's indicative of the series jumping the shark, but in reality, it's not really something to get worked up over when you look at it rationally.

Does that answer your question?

I know hearing this at this point might be infuriating, but try it. Even if you hate it, just try it for one episode, and if you don't like it, it'll be perfectly fine. I won't annoy, but just once I say: try it.

Please?

You lost me at "elements of harmony".

But I still don't understand what the big deal is with this whole character change thing. I'd bet that the finally has her becoming this demigod thing, and if the fans like it, they'll keep it, and if they don't like it they'll change it back in the first couple of episodes of the next season. It's been done before in other shows, why not this one?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch some Crash Course: World History.

Just remember, even if you hate it, it's probably still going to be loved by its intended audience. Please don't ***** and moan if it turns out to be bad. I can handle threads praising this thing but if I start seeing grown men complain about a show that isn't really made with them in mind, I may die a little on the inside.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I'm not surprised they are going Princess with Twilight, I mean technically she is already royalty since her brother married Cadance. I'm going to reserve judgement till I see the episode, chances are they will find a way to make it work, I just hope its better then that royal wedding since that one really annoyed me.

Cadance and Shining armor were so boring in it, but the crystal empire made them much more interesting despite them only having rather small rolls.

The rumors were true after all, apparently.
People keep acting surprised by this.

It was foreshadowed in Season 1. In the PILOT. And again later. How did you all not see this coming?

Twilight is a matched set with Celestia and Luna (Sun, Moon, and Stars).

Twilight's cuttie Mark was pictured as the stars sealing Nightmare Moon.

And later, in the Rainboom flashback episode, Twilight was shown to have great, strange power, was taken under Celestia's wing as her personal student. A student who Celestia frequently abandons to face down Eldridge abominations all by herself.

Seriously, I do not understand why no one saw this coming. It was obvious in SEASON 1 that Twilight was the heir to the throne.

I'm personally just gonna call upon the awesome powers of fanon discontinuity.

I did it with with KND's OP:INTERVIEWS.

I did it with Mass effect 3's ending (before Extended Cut was released).

I did it with Ben 10's Alien Force and Ultimate Alien.

I see no reason why I can't do the same with the Season 3 finale if they make the whole Twilight being an Alicorn official, unless the show gives me a very good reason to want to go along with it.

Yes, lets. I've always said I'm not a big fan of the whole thing, but I can still keep calm and brony on *snirk*. It will be... interesting to see how much frothing rage this move draws from the fanbase.

*record scratch*

Hold the phone, everyone! I think I just figured something out.

this episode where Twilight is supposedly gonna turn into an Alicorn, check out this summary:

"Twilight accidentally casts a spell that switches the Cutie Marks and destinies of all her friends. The only way she can reverse the spell is by writing her own magic."
This could just be part of the result of her aforementioned spell, so chances are she'll reject the idea of being an Alicorn (not wanting to outlive or leave her friends, plus showing no desire in becoming royalty in previous episodes) and use this newfound power to help her create her own spell to reverse the process.

I personally like the idea of Twilight becoming an Alicorn except on one part, Alicorns are immortal doesn't this means she is going to far outlive all of her friends and basically be burdened with the fact that she will never be able to make new friends because how traumatizing it will be that she will keep living even though none of her friends do. The other main issue with this is that I like the fandom (for the most part) I don't want to see it split on something like this just because people feel Twilight should be normal like her friends and shouldn't be given some insane privilege like immortality or being a demigod. I feel that it will be done tastefully and that I will end up enjoying the change seeing as the last time there was a big change with a new Alicorn and Twilight suddenly having a brother it endeed up being one of my favorite episodes.
