perhaps something set in the fallout universe, that could be pretty cool, and being an asshole could essentially be excused as being in character :p

and a cops and robber style mmo that would be cool, one side commits the crimes the other solves/stops them. for example if you decided to have the "serial killer" class you would not only have to be mindful of stalking and killing your victim but also make sure to erase as much evidence as possible, on the flip side another group of players could be investigating the crime scene. then again it could just be simple car chases, or a bank heist or something

We talked about that some time ago. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.77821]

As for MMO's, I would love to see an open world Hellgate: London. Minus the bugs and glitches. I think I'm the one the few who never got a glitch in that game.

It's not well known, but I think the Blackthane fiction has some great potential to be an MMO. It's a pet project of a friend's. He's writing a book about it.

Anyhow, I'd like to see LMOs, where 20 to 40 dedicated people get together to play key characters in an on-going war. Using a system of automated resource checks, they spend less time questing than they do exploring and engaging in actual battle with the enemy forces.

The goal would be a tug of war with the resource system, for more than anything else, wars are won with money. And what is money than resources? So key battles are scheduled as the game progresses, and the players can choose to show up there or not; if there are human players, the tides are likely to be turned in SW:BF2-esque clashes filled with NPCs and such.

The more resources a faction has, the more NPC's they can afford to arm and put on the lines, the stronger they become. Of course, eventually it would have to end, but utilizing a few faux pas they could string it out for several months.

And instead of simply disabling your character and taking away your goodies, you could be left as-is, and your server 'advanced' to a new stage of difficulty, or even just reset save your goodies and stats. This way the grind is directly relevant to the development of the world you're playing in.

In this way, cities might come to be taken over (imagine the Orcs taking Stormwind for good, or mankind Orgrimmar, and it actually sticking (unless it was taken back)), and simple aesthetic changes, like banners and populous, could identify which side is occupying.

The story wouldn't have to be overly complex; Your side is warring with their side for X reason. Figure religion, politik, or culture into it. One side doesn't even have to be good and evil; maybe it's a feud over the royal bloodline. Weirder shit has been fought over.

One of the fun features of the game might be an independent ranking system in which determines the alpha males among players, and give the leaders the oppurtunities to go on conquests or simply Sherman-like rampages, in which fields and villages are burned and the common folk slaughtered, if only to win a victory of morale rather than sheer battlefield tactic.

I think that would be fun. It would require some dedication certainly, but if you could throw an hour a night into it, and I think anyone could do that, it would never be the same story, and since the questing land doesn't have to be gi-fucking-gantic, the graphics could be touched up quite a bit.

P.S. In fact, you could even have presets of several kinds of terrain; flatlands, hilly, winter, summer, etc. Throw a fable or real time night cycle in there and you've really got something coming together, I think. Give it an actual map-editor a la Sins of a Solar Empire and you could be onto something!

How about a "Nightmare before Christmas" MMORPG? with all the holiday worlds and quests involving the residents

*Get ready for a fanboy attack*

Some sort of Kingdom Hearts mmorpg? I just like the combat system, so just take that from KH and add it to something else, if nothing else.

Or at least any mmo where they don't immediately tell you that you are the one chosen hero that can save the world. That always bugs me.

Yeah, I really hate that, too.

Fallout. Where you could build up communities and found citys and scavenge from the wasteland. Would be truly amazing.

WELL bioware already is doing a new Star Wars MMO so I'm good there.

Another one is that I really would like to see an MMO like EVE online yet you form starship crews, everyone has a position on your ship, you can have your friends launch fighters from your ship, walk around in it and stuff. Sort of like a guild ship. I see MMO's that have certain elements like that but they always fall short.
Star Trek Online would have been like that, until the old company dropped it and Cryptic took over. Makes me a sad cheetah..

Other than that, anything not using a point 'n click interface, like FreeWorld or Tatsumaki.

Mount and Blade seems like it would make a pretty halfdecent mmo with some tweeking...

I've always thought pokemon would make an awesome mmo, assembling your team of pokemon would breath some life back into both the pokemon series, and the entire mmo genre.

What I really want though... is an mmo like Lunia and LaTale; an Action-MMORPG. Both had the right idea, but missed the mark by so much. I want to actually fight enemies, and for them to actually have to fight me. I want every single attack to cause some degree of pain/stun/knockback. I wanted so badly to enjoy Lunia, but alas... just too laggy... Somebody has to find a way to make action mmorpgs possible without bring ruined by lags higher then 50, because mmo's always lag, and when lag = death, mmo = not fun.

None. I dislike MMORPG's in their current format.
Yet your profile picture is runescape?
LOL, no it's not Runescape. My profile pic is a pixel art work that I did a while back:

EDIT: It's meant to be Shadow of the Colossus.

The only thing that could get me to play an MMORPG for any length of time would be if they made one of Cyberpunk 2020. It would have to include FPS elements though.

The Lag is the bane of the genre. I think it's because of all those bots.

A proper Final Fantasy MMO. with NA, JP and EU severs. that's set in either the FF7,8 or 10 worlds. but to be more original

I had this idea last night. there should be a fantasy game. like WoW or EQ2 or something. but not. they should have highelves that travail the stars, drawves. upgraded weapons. i'm talking WoW or any of your other run of the mill fantasy MMOs in space. with star ships and crap. lame, i know

Mount and Blade could have some potential. So could Fallout 3 mmo.

But the one thing that has the most potential and is coming soon is darkfall online

A good Unreal Tournament MMO?

EDIT: Yeah, I answer questions with questions and my teachers get pissed.
Huxley is what you are looking for. I want it more than any other game, but it seems to getting lost in development. It was announced for 2007 but there wasn't any media since q1 2008.

A castlevania MMO which uses the same engine as the 2d side-scrollers would be really good. Just imagine ganging up with a group of vampire slayers to own Dracula.

I would like to see an MMO that plays like an First/Third Person Shooter set in an SciFi universe. Anything that would be magic in a fantasy game would be technology. The game would have interplanetery space travel.
There would be no set factions. Guilds(or something similar) could group to become faction and declare war on others. Epic space and ground battles would decide the victor of this war. Guilds could build their own cities that can be destroyed if an oppossing factor would win enough battles.
I would also like to see that skill is more important than gear/level, eg. One could have the best armor and weapons and still lose because of terrible aim or lack of dodging skills.
And I would also make it that the best gear(weapons; armor; vehicles; spacecrafts) would be player-made. The creator would have several customisation tools to choose how it would look and what stats it has.
My only problem is that I can't come up with a healing class without ripping of Team Fortress...

I would Kill *bandishes bloody spoon* for a .hack// MMORPG.

It makes perfect sense to me. They just need to turn the single palyer game into a multi player format.

the skill angine coudl use soem tweaking obviously, but i see alot of potential.
